DC put this book on the wrong imprint. This should be on Vertigo. I liked the issue too. I'm kinda disappointed Simon ended up being a teenager. He appeared to be so much older than he was.

Im kinda glad its not Vertigo. Yeah I actually kinda wish they wouldve kept the mask on but we really dont know if thats his real face, eh?

I really liked the first issue and meant to add this to my pull list the other day, but forgot.

Hopefully there's still an issue left when I go in this weekend...

Edited to add: I, too, am glad this book is set in the DCU and not Vertigo. A wider variety of characters in the 'mainstream' setting is always a good thing.

speaking of Vertigo. Is it in the same universe as the mainstream DCU?

Sometimes. Y the Last Man is clearly not. Sandman was.

Swamp Thing is to i believe. Didn't he cause all kinds of hell in Gotham because his wife was kidnapped or something

True. He has encountered Batman at least a couple of times, Demon and the Phantom Stranger a couple of times, battled Solomon Grundy and the Floronic Man, etc. He also met Adam Strange on Rann.

I didn't really like seeing his face either, but stingerman has a point.

Well, I just picked up this issue today. I gotta say that this issue had me on my toes from the shooting up until the scene with the cop at the end removing his watch.

This is going to be one wild story.

Its been very good so far, this is actually my first true commitment to DC... Ever!
Not bragging, I'd just been pretty heavily indoctrinated into Marvel.
I was a bit disapointed with the face, guess its a good tactic to keep fans from building up expectations as to whats underneath the mask.
People are always dissapointed if this type of thing happens years later in a run... I just sort of which his face was all patchwork as well.

That's an interesting point, Dissenter: woulda been interesting indeed if the patchwork mask hid a patchwork face.

Picked this up reluctantly, but glad I have. Enough to it already to be willing to see where it's going.

To Vertigo or not to Vertigo; that's a hard one. I'd like to see at least a couple of completed 'arcs' in the DCU: writer Steve Niles does pretty gory stuff in other venues; maybe he enjoys the challenges staying within DCU lines.

Didn't "Lucifer" move to Vertigo after a short pre-Vertigo run?

I guess having a patchwork face under a patchwork mask would have been redundant?
Or perhaps it would have leeched the little relatable humanity he has left.

Since he is in the DCU, do you think it likely that he will eventually be tied into the storylines of other characters?
Or if that even be appropriate?

Well I was flipping thru the issue today and read the comment about that not being his real face, so I decided to turn to that page. I noticed that there is actually a scar on his neck and it appears that it might be a face that was sewn on also.

I might be wrong but doesn't hurt to assume

I'm kinda disappointed Simon ended up being a teenager. He appeared to be so much older than he was.

As the legend goes, he was a boy that died some time ago. Therefore, if that is his real face, he was a boy when he died, but has been around for some time since. In some ways, I get the sense that Simon is still cognitively a boy -- having a very basic, black and white understanding of good and bad and being frightened when out of his home element, but he's also had time to develop a more mature wisdom about the world in general, particularly since he's clearly an avid reader. This might make for a fascinating character; a child in some respects but a wise old man in others.

I wonder when Batman is going to show up. He's in Gotham, right?
It'll be kinda weird having a cape show up! :)

I'm quite alright if Batman doesn't show up. I mean, how big is NYC and do you run across EVERYONE in the city? No.

But I'm all for Two-Face appearing! :D

It's probably an inevitable eventuality, and if done right could be cool.
Two random people meeting in the city is way less likely to happen then two people who actively pursue and stop crime within said city.
I'm wondering, what is Batman's his stance on murderous vigilante justice, could Simon Dark escalating his behaviour draw Batmans attention, or so long as its homicidal trash being dispatched he'll be alright with it?

On another topic, I hope to see Simon sharpen up his skills a bit, he sort of got pwned by the cops since he did the whole "deer in the headlights" routine.

lol I agree, I woulda thought since he had that small evasion at the beginning of issue 1 that he woulda easily dodged those shots. Guess not.

As far as Batman I thought that someone mentioned he would eventually be in it in the first Simon Dark thread. It would make for an interesting story. Batman could probably help in finding out who Simon's creator might be, who knows.

Just finished issue 2. I am really liking this series, so far. Sometimes the art is hard to follow though. For example, we Simon confronts Eddie in the alleyway after Eddie kills the young girl and the cops show up, the cops tell both men to put their hand up. Then, from what I can tell, Eddie pushes Simon towards the cops and they shoot Simon multiple times. How did Eddie escape that barrage of bullets and why didn't the cops pursue him?

I think its just for the fact that the police where disoriented in relation to what had just happened, and since they're quick to profile in most universes, the guy that seemingly lunged toward them with a crazy mask seemed like the one to shoot at the time.
But I forget, was Eddie already a suspect?

yeah he was because they were the serial killer they had been after. i guess they assumed simon might have been the killer.

issue 3 comes out this week and it seems simon is going to finish what he started in the alley.

Nice issue, I really enjoyed it and I love this series. Great stuff and Iīm happy that itīs not set in the Vertigoverse or watchamacallit.

I just hope that it doesnīt go the way that all quality books (e.g. Monolith) go.:(

I was stoked by the idea of a new hero in Gotham and DC but we are now at issue 3 and I have lost interest in the book.I do not see any originality in the book or the character. He is just a mixture of Batman and The Crow in a Slipknot mask and a Freddy Krueger shirt. On the bright side the art compliments the story.
