I'm incredibly depresssed at the moment.
I was contacted by a publisher who said they really liked my submission (first ten chapters of my novel) and that my work was right up their alley, and they'd love to read the whole manuscript.
A week later I got a package from them, detailing their business, and this and that, and I'm practically glowing. They're a small press, but hell, they publish Forrest Ackerman's work, so they can't be all bad.
Then I get to the part where they want $1200 from me.
godDANGit. I've been trying to publish for a year now, have ammassed 128 rejection letters, and was really, really excited about this whole thing, and they're a freakin' vanity press. I even found these guys in Writer's Market, so I assumed they were a legit publisher.
If a puppy had been near me, I would have kicked it out of frustration.
