ok so what medicine works for you guy when your sick with the cold or flu? i have aching joints, soar throat, nausea, stuffy nose, upset stomach and a SERIOUS headache.and on top of that i'm sweating profusely for some reason..i have tried everything and NOTHING works.the pain relievers work but once they wear off the pain comes back and you feel like a junkie thats crashing.i'm not as sick as my brother though who has a very high fever.likely he'll have to go to the hospital (if we can get him to go).but i'm not going to the hospital, they're just gonna shoot me in the ass with penicillin. and i'm allergic to penicillin last i checked. my parents homemade soups really helps with the stuffy head though.

Any time I get sick I take that stuff. It always makes me feel better and as far as medicine goes the taste isn't terrible. They've also got a new variety called "severe" that I've yet to try (because I've never seen it).

I use Nyquill at night, and OD on Vitamin C during the day (juice and fruits)

Sorry you're sick, hope you feel better soon.

What I've been doing recently is taking Cold FX as soon as I start to feel myself getting a cold. My normal resistance to colds is pretty puny, so I generally can't entirely fight off the cold, but if I stay with the Cold FX regimen it makes it a far, far less unpleasant experience.

sounds interestingThe nice thing is, it'll knock you on your ass for a few hours. And surprisingly, it doesn't taste too bad.

It works with Honey Lemon Tylenol Cold & Flu, too.

You've got the flu. So, get something that will knock you out, like Nyquil. Sleep really is your best bet and it's the fastest way to get better. Also, fevers that's aren't dangerously high are good for you. It's killing the virus. And, very important, drink lots and lots of fluids, especially those with electrolytes like Gatorade.

It takes your body about two weeks to build the antibodies after receiving the flu shot - the dead virus. So, I'm guessing your sister got the flu shot shortly before she got sick. Or, if she did get the flu shot 14 or so days before she got sick, she may have contracted a strain of the virus that's not covered by the flu shot.

I cram nasal decongestants around this time of the year.

Thankfully, my sinuses haven't flared up yet.

For you, I recommend just taking the pills in the proper dosage, and sleeping a lot.

I have all-year allergies.

It's winter when they REALLY come at me. My nose gets clogged up and then the snot crusts, and I'm constantly having to down a cup of water because my throat dries up.

No fun.

That sounds rough. You need to move when you can.

I used to get the flu shot and every year as a kid I'd get it....I'd end up sick as shit with the flu. My mom finally rolled the dice one year and didn't let me get a flu shot. Never got sick with it since and haven't had a flu shot in years.

you know,i don't think its a coincidence that everybody get sick right around the time they get a flu shot.though i probably still should have gotten one.

Vitamin C helps your immune system so eat oranges or other fruits. (If possible Papaya + Mango, or melon like Honeydew + Cantaloupe)

Stay hydrated.

Eat soup if it helps you.

Sleep.

EDIT: Don't eat things that make you throw up, though!

Assuming it is just the cold or flu and not something more serious the best thing you can do for yourself is:

1. Rest
2. Get plenty of fluids
3. Let your body do its thing and heal itself
4. Take some basic measures to alleviate the worst of your symptoms to facilitate #1-3.

For the nausea, I usually use a strong brewed ginger tea or else chamomile sweetened with honey. Either tea will either calm your stomach down, or bring whatever is irritating it up (which sometimes can be the only real remedy). Chamomile is good to drink at night because it also calms you down a bit. Just make sure not to use sugar or artificial sweeteners in either tea (honey only if you must), because the sweeteners will cancel out most of the benefits from the tea. And you have to brew them strong. If you are using teabags, leave it in the mug for at least 5 minutes. If you are using whole leaf tea you may need to leave it in longer.

I'm fairly immune to the effects of most decongestants, though I will take a dose at nighttime just to put me out for the first few hours of the night. Halls or Thayers lozenges take care of the sore throat during the day, as does more honey-sweetened Chamomile tea. If you have a humidifier, use it to make your bedroom a bit more humid, it might encourage your nasal passages to relax and unclog a bit (just make sure you have cleaned your humidifier recently so that there is no mold or other guk growing in it). A tepid shower or bath should help you cool down a bit, but sweating can be a good thing since it is one of the many ways in which your body can purge toxins.

For the headache, I can't reccommend much. I suppose tylenol or advil will help, but most of my headaches are treated with a cold compress on the forehead, or some White Flower on the temples, or just getting some sleep and letting my body take care of itself.

Hope some of this helps. Feel better soon!

Sabrina

Hope you feel better soon Tish. (and get your flu shot next year missy!)

Lots of liquids, rest, etc. What everyone else said...

Keep an eye on the fever. If it gets too high, you might need to see the doc (or the emergency room) yourself. Fluids help keep the fever down and you don't want to get too dehydrated. Tylenol, Aspirin, help fevers too.
