It is a time to mourn. It seems that my favorite political cult leader and nutball conspiracy theorist, Lyndon LaRouche, will not give us the entertainment of another campaign for President of the United States.

If you're not familiar with LaRouche, he's a convicted felon who believes that the Queen of England is a drug dealer and that only he can save the world from the collapse of the banking establishment... And he's run for president in every election since 1976, a couple times as a third party candidate and since 1984 as a Democrat.

You may recognize his nutball followers with the weirdest friggin' literature, and pamphlets like this:

To make his absense from Election 2008 a little easier, please enjoy this hilarious TV campaign ad from 1984.

Let's hear your stories, have you ever encountered the LaRouchies?

I've heard the name, but really know nothing about him. I'm going to have to look into this guy. That pamphlet reminds me of Cooper's Behold A Pale Horse for some reason.

Let's be clear that I think Cooper was batshit crazy.

Wow. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aG6MUBAkFQg)Yeah, 'Twas a bit random, wasn't it? Seems more like a "Push Poll" type of thing. All he's really trying to do is plant the seeds of these inane accusations.

Let's hear your stories, have you ever encountered the LaRouchies? No, but I've encountered Scientologists, and really, whats one surly cult to the next?

Why should he? Ron Paul's already got the "batshit crazy motherfucker with terrible ideas" vote sewn up.

This is actually what I've noticed...Ron Paul has developed a weird cult of personality that reminds me of LaRouche, or at least a really dedicated set of followers.

I'm sure there are also real, honest to God Libertarians that like Paul, but there also seem to be lots of folks who travel in less rational circles.

I love the LaRouchers. Because in every other aspect of my life, when I see something stupid, it takes me so long to think of something witty to say that I always miss the chance. But these guys have staked a claim right in front of my local grocery store, where they remain for hours on end. So I get to walk past them and spend the next 15 minutes thinking of new ways to mock them while I'm buying eggs. It's like my own personal open mic night.

I'm sad.
Last year mike and a few of the other politicos here introduced me to the man, and i found everything about him to be hilarious.
And now, after only knowing him for a year, he's gone.

Why should he? Ron Paul's already got the "batshit crazy motherfucker with terrible ideas" vote sewn up.Except that Paul actually has some good ideas and a good consistent record that matches his rhetoric.

I'm not a fan of so much of his policy stances, but the guy was against the war as a Republican, when the leaders of the so-called opposition party were cheerleading it.

He's no Lyndon LaRouche.

Oh yay! LaRouche is a global warming denier, too! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3HaaPz8hgQ)

It's amazing how muddled and incoherent everything they have to say is. I'm no fan of Al Gore, but there are legitimate ways to criticize him and his record and then there is muddled-headed conspiracies. It doesn't even sound like they understand their own positions.

If you don't know these folks, this is their modus operandi. They show up at events with Q&As and just rant at the presenters in bizarre unfocused ways to the sound of a large sigh.

Typical of them. Lyndon LaRouche is to politics as L. Ron Hubbard is to religion.

And here's a BBC Documentary on LaRouche and his cult's involvement in the death of a student who joined his group.
