View Full Version : Most Hated Person Alive?

The title says it all.
I think I'm going with Fred Phelps. Even dictators and politicians tend to have tons of supporters. Phelps just has his twisted little church members.
After him I'd have to assume its some mass killer or something, which really speaks badly for how much people hate Fred Phelps.

Not enough people know Phelps. He's relatively obscure in the scheme of things. I'm going to go with Bush, simply because I doubt there's a country on earth right now where someone doesn't hate him. He has the potential for being hated by the most number of people, between actions and name recognition.

Seriously folks, Fred Phelps is not really very famous.
The correct answer is probably George W. Bush. You know that he has to be unpopular in every Islamic country. He is not well-liked in Europe. He hasn't done anything for Africa. 25% of all human beings live in China and 20% live in India, and I bet that most of them don't like Bush. And none of these people know who Fred Phelps is, or care. But they know who Bush is, and they know that his invasion of Iraq was a very aggressive and very stupid idea.

Almost forgot, President Umar Hassan Ahmad al-BASHIR. The bastard funds the Janjaweed which burns children alive, gang rapes teenage girls while singing, runs rape camps, bombs villages and executes men in front of their wives. Survivors of these attacks walk for days, even months to find sanctuary.
This ugly bastard has a place in hell for all eternity. May he become Satan's bitch.

Probably. Although it could also be a problem of "what have you done for me lately?" It's been a bit since Osama has done anything, while Bush does stuff to piss people off all the time. So like it goes without saying that everyone hates Osama, but it might not be the first thing that comes to the brain when you ask the question. So the conversation would be something along the lines of "Bush." "What about Osama?" "Oh yeah, him, definitely."

George Bush would be my guess. The President of the United States is always one of the most famous people in the world, and the position automatically garners some hatred from someone regardless of who is occupying it, just because of what it represents.
Add to that what Bush has done in his tenure, and I think the level and number of people hating him for what he's done personally goes way up.

True, on the other hand it could be argued Osama draws less ire these days since he's basically been confined to hiding out in the mountains of Pakistan's Waziristan region. He doesn't actually seem to have much of an effect on things. And while he is hated, I hardly seem Osama mentioned anymore except when people are talking about how Bush cocked-up because he escaped. Bush on the other hand seems to draw continuous ire across the world for his stupidity as President of the world's pre-eminent superpower. As a result I'd argue he's much more hated now.

Yes, we also know many more people hate Bush than Phelps. So your logic train kind of stops short there.
And what this comes down to is your average person probably doesn't know who the hell Phelps is. He's trivia. Even when he was actually news, he wasn't front page, except maybe in the towns he was doing the protests in.

Yeah, I actually never heard of Phelps until I read about him in a discussion here at CBR, maybe a year or two ago. Last Friday, I was at a party for a married couple that had both just finished getting their PhDs. I brought up Phelps in the course of a conversation with several educated people in their late 20s and early 30s, and nobody knew who I was talking about.

I agree that China and India are going to outweigh pretty much everyone else, population-wise. Which means that the most-hated person on Earth might be someone famous over there that we've never heard of.
But, that aside: it probably is George W. Bush. The combination of living candidates, widespread exposure and general hostility does it.
Of course, much the same could probably be said of Bill Clinton during his term: he had lots of enemies both at home and abroad, and almost everyone knew who he was. And whoever becomes President following Bush will also fit those criteria.
It's just a natural effect of media cycles. In 2010, we probably won't have a single board thread about Bush, because we won't care about him anymore. We'll have threads about whomever is currently in power, and lots of people will hate them intensely. And eventually, people will start to say, "Even Dubya never..." and "As much as I hated Bush, ___ is even worse..."
Because that's what people always say. Just look at Reagan, or Bush Sr. Or Nixon, for that matter. No one wants to waste their energy hating someone who isn't in office anymore.

I'm going to go with GWB...if ony because Magneto is fictional.
The thing with Bin Laden: The "West" really hates him. The former Soviet Union, Latin America, East Asia (excepting the Phillipines, with its late Muslim insurgency) don't care. In Muslim countries the Weseternized middle class hates him and the poor are probably neutral or maybe even a little friendly, and they far outnumber the Westernized class.
GWB, on the other hand, has managed to alienate significant portions of the population in Europe, Russia, Latin America, and certainly the Middle East through 1) being American and 2) being an imperious douchebag. Even 70% of his own voters think he's crap, though maybe only a quarter of those feel some level of hatred.

GALLUP: Bush Finally Tops Nixon -- In Unpopularity -- As Call for Iraq Pullout Hits New Peak
By E&P Staff
Published: November 06, 2007 2:50 PM ET
NEW YORK For almost two years, President Bush has been threatening to unseat Richard M. Nixon as the most unpopular president in the history of the Gallup poll, and it finally happened this week.
The latest USA TODAY/Gallup survey finds Bush with a 31% approval rating -- and for the first time ever in the polling history, 50% say they "strongly disapprove" of a president.
The previous high (or low?) was a 48% strong disapproval rating for Nixon at the worst moments of Watergate in 1974.
The telephone survey of 1,024 adults was conducted last Friday through Sunday.
He beats Nixon at the worst moments of Watergate. That's truly impressive.

Three things:
1. China and India aren't unitary actors. They aren't going to hate people in some unified fashion. A lot of Chinese seem to be angry at Japan as leaders leverage the 1930s for political purposes, while a lot of Indians probably hate Musharraf. Oh, and we're China's major global strategic competitor.
2. India has over 100 million Muslims, and a lot of those probably don't like Bush. And until last week he was good friends with Pakistan, which would anger the Hindus.

During Monicagate he had great ratings in America (over 50%?) and the rest of the world didn't care about his affair with the intern. Sure they probabaly didn't think it was ethical, but it wasn't something like the Iraq war. I bet France didn't even care about the affair *at all*.

That's a surprisingly bold stance from a guy who has been hiding for six years....and yet we're sitting here still talking about him.
Yeah, he's pretty much a pissant in the greater scheme of things, but he's a reknowned pissant.

I have always hated Cheney more than Bush. Dubya is ignorant and misguided, but Cheney is downright evil.

What about the Viilian from Pans Labyrinth? Or better yet, Ernie Mckraken................now he was a real dousche!Ah, McCracken wasn't out and out evil, just devilishly mischievous and immoral.
Now Cheney and Rove, those are horses I can back. Actually, can we just consider the entire Bush administration one single, evil entity?

At this point, whether he did it or not doesn't even enter into it. He's never murdered me or mine, and he's provided me with hours of entertainment with his wacky antics. Now mind you, he should burn like the dog he is, because that would provide me with even more entertainment. But I can't hate him for it. He's the Juice!I think you're addicted StoneGold

Most hated man alive?
Well, while Bush *is* climbing that ladder and seems to be head and shoulders above everyone else, I still see Bin Laden so far up the ladder ahead of him that W. has virtually no chance to catching.
And of course, that would likely only apply to folk here in the U.S., as most of the billion Chinese probably care fuck all about 6 years ago.
I disagree. But I think I'm seeing the subtext "in the World" at the end of the thread title while you seem to be seeing the subtext "in the USA". I imagine more people in the world hate Bush than hate Bin Laden.

I'm pretty sure I said exactly that:

I was actually stating my previous post in terms of personal opinion.
