Yeah.

It didn't get me very high, though.

Yes.

The power went out all Christmas week so we threw the turkey on the grill and smoked it. It was actually very good. No gravy or stuffing from it though.

My brother loves to smoke stuff. He did turkey last year for Thanksgiving. He's done chicken, ribs, and even these fantastic stuffed jalapeno peppers wrapped in bacon.

It's well worth the time and effort. I should know, I get to eat whatever he brings to family gatherings. :D

My dad had a smoker as well, but he is much more of a barbeque grill guy, I think.

We had smoked turkey for years. Of course my dad was a butcher and had an industrial smokehouse for doing hams and bacons. Every November he'd buy a couple dozen turkeys and smoke them for his customers. I prefer it to regular turkey by far.

They are. I could eat a whole plate of them myself.

He takes a jalapeno pepper, stuffs it with cream cheese, wraps it in bacon and secures it with a toothpick. Then he smokes it for while. They come out hot and gooey and bacon-y.

He also has added crab meat to the cream cheese mixture before, but it didn't make much of a difference in overall flavor.

Man, this jive-ass punk was all up in my face, but I let it slide, 'cos I don't need no hassle from the Man, but when he starts mackin' on my special lady...

You best bet yo' ass I smoked that turkey.

I've always been skeptical of cream cheese stuffed jalapeños. Not sure why, as I love both items. This Mexican place by my parents house has these things where they stuff a jalapeño with cheese, butterfly a shrimp and wrap it around the jalapeño, wrap that in bacon then stuff it in chicken, batter that and fry it. They serve it with some sort of creamy pepper sauce. It sounds way too busy, but good lord is it good.

Sadly, most of the stuffed jalapeños I've had I've considered severely undercooked. They come out like a raw jalepeño stuffed with things. Bleh. May have to try some on my own and see if I can get the texture I want.

If you can find an old copy of the Cheech and Chong album Big Bambu it came with a giant fold-out rolling paper that just might be big enough for a turkey.

I'm new to the concept of smoking a turkey. But I'll probably try one.

This year, though, I'm sticking to pre-sliced bird.

My step-dad frequently smokes turkey for Thanksgiving. I like it quite a bit.

My dad had that record (witht he rolling paper intact). I remember listening to it when I was maybe 7 or so... I couldn't get any of the drug references at that age, of course, I just liked listening to all the funny voices.

My older brother bought it when it came out in '72 but the paper didn't last long. I listened to those skits a million times.

I'd like to try smoked turkey now that I've heard of it.

basically, for the live version of that, you should watch the Alton Brown Food Network, Good Eats show where he gets into what you'll need to do in order to 'Backyard' smoke big cuts of meat. Very informative and gave lots to think about. Basically, you have to prepare well ahead of time, as you need to pay attention to what you are setting up, hours and days ahead of time.
