I happened upon this and hadn't seen it mentioned anywhere (but then I'm not a regular at his forum), and I thought it was interesting....
Take a look at the new character designs for the Funky Winkerbean comic strip (http://www.funkywinkerbean.com/cast.html). Look familiar?
This isn't intended to be an attack on Mr. Byrne. I think he's done some nice character work here, and I happen to like the Funky Winkerbean strip. How about if we have one thread here regarding Byrne that doesn't slag him?
Nice work, JB.

I'm trying here. I really am. Um . . . his run on Fantastic Four was really, really good.
And I remember really appreciatiating the impressively round bubble boobs he always gave his female characters when I was 14.
Woo! Did it! High five!

Yeah, I saw that last week and thought they looked familiar. Byrne ghosted the strip for awhile earlier this year (maybe last year). It'll be interesting to see what Batiuk does with the strip now that he's lept ahead 10 years.

Good call. Get Fuzzy is good times. They used to print that one in my old college newspaper.

That, Pearls Before Swine, and Bizarro are the only syndicated strips I bother with anymore.

We don't get any of them out here in the boonies. What I've seen of Pearls Before Swine, I've liked.

THIS! (http://www.kingfeatures.com/features/comics/pvaliant/about.htm)
One of the great adventure strips, written by Mark Schultz and drawn by the great Gary Gianni!
Ahhh, poetry!

hmmm. . .
It *does* look pretty much like his standard style, but I do like some of the character designs.
I wish he'd get a few more female faces tho.

John Byrne is a hell of a cartoonist. I do think that Marvel suits him better than DC. In a universe that was largely built by Stan Lee, his over-the-top-breathless-gee-whiz-pseudo-Shakespearean writing really fits in nicely.
Just because I don't like his Superman or Wonder Woman runs doesn't mean I don't like his work. I just think his talents are better utilized in the Marvel U.
And as for his cartooning.... well, I read his issues of All-New Atom, and I thought his art was really a nice fit. It helped establish the series' nice, light, yet wierd vibe on a visual level, and created a foundation that his successor has really been able to dig into and expand upon.
Gotta love his Nude Giganta At The Drive-In images.

What..?? LOL
Byrne is a fine artist and his sketch-up for the aged Funky Winkerbean characters are very good.
I'm really not a fan of the strip, but I will give it real credit for trying to become something more then a gag strip.

He's working on FX at IDW, it's writen and financed by Wayne Osborne. I'm eager for it being successful enough for sequels or more creator owned projects. You can see preview art on his forum.

Oh yes.
Nude Giganta attacks the Drive-In, swallows the Atom, but not in the way he might have liked.
All New Atom is soooo worth picking up.
