Yay For Jose Louis Garcia Lopez!

As you might know, he's one of my favorite artists, period. He's a genius, and has never gotten the full respect he deserves. The guy is an artist's artist and a writer's dream, and a sweeter, more humble guy, you will never meet in a million years.

He just emailed me to tell me that he won the Haxtur, a Spanish comics award for best artist, for our collaboration on THE HYPOTHETICAL WOMAN.

Way to go, Jose, and WELL DESERVED!

El Wendigo The Wendigo

Coincidiendo con la clausura del XXXI Salón Internacional del Cómic Principado de Asturias , celebrado en Gijón entre los días 9 y 13 de octubre, se concedieron el pasado sábado los Premios Haxtur de la edición de 2007. Coinciding with the closing of XXXI Chamber International Comic Asturias held in Gijon between 9 and 13 October, were awarded last Saturday Awards Haxtur of the edition 2007. En el que Yoshiharu Imaizumi y Jiro Taniguchi , comparten con Stan Sakai el galardón a la mejor historia de larga duración. In that Yoshiharu Imaizumi and Jiro Taniguchi, Stan Sakai shared with the award for the best long-term story. Estos premios, fueron creados en 1975 por la revista asturiana de cómic El Wendigo , aunque no sería hasta 1985 cuando se entregarían por primera vez. These awards were created in 1975 by the magazine Asturian comic The Wendigo, but it will not be until 1985 when it was handed over for the first time.

- Premio Mejor Dibujo : José Luis García López por La Mujer Hipótesis . - Best Picture Award: Jose Luis Garcia Lopez for Women assumptions.

- Premio Mejor Cómic de Humor : Maitena por Todas las Mujeres Alteradas . Award-Best Comic Humor: Maitena by All Women Alteradas.

- Premio Mejor Portada : Walt Simonson por Clásicos DC : Orión nº 4 - Portada nº 21 . Award-Best Cover: Classics by Walt Simonson DC: Orion No 4-Cover No. 21.

I absolutely LOVE Jose's work...... BUT, and as you know, Gail, I wasn't exactly enamored with the work done in those issues. Just a bad pairing or 2 great artists....

I love Jose's work, he did some great Wonder Woman covers a few years ago. This one in particular is one of my all time favourite iconic images of Diana :

The Batman vs. Hulk tabloid is my favorite story for both of those characters because of his artwork. The more recognition he gets, the better!

I met him at the DC party in New York, which was very crowded and loud and crazy, and he was this incredibly dapper, soft-spoken man, and he was so gracious about my story and work, and...man, he's just the coolest. All that talent and he's still so humble and generous.

Just an amazing guy. I need to find the pencilled xeroxes so I can show what he did in its pure form.
