View Full Version : Project A-ko
I was thinking about getting the first(?) dvd about this from Amazon. But some of the reviewers are saying this is not so good. As my anime knowledge is not that great, I was interested in getting (hopefully) the first dvd where it's revealed that Superman and Wonder Woman are her parents.
Anyone have any reccomendations on this, whether it's worth the time to seek out and buy or whatnot? Thanks.

I enjoyed watching it. It's very high on slapstick comedy, though - maybe even higher than Love Hina!
There's a nonsensical touch to the plot, and it's more silly action than epic action. A lot of the action is good, and there's some drama, but... well, it's not what you'd expect the daughter of Superman and Wonder Woman to be like. ;)
Speaking of Supes and WW, they only make very brief cameo appearances, and not in costume... so if you're interested in the anime mainly because you like Superman and Wonder Woman, I don't know if it's wise for you to buy the anime.
Still, it's pretty good zany fun. Just don't expect it to be very deep, epic, or thoughtful. ;)
thanks Darth! :) Do you know if there's a difference between the one that's dubbed or available in English as opposed to the Japanese language only one?

I think it's a classic. It's got a lot of funny in it, the animation is dated but well-done, and the action is over the top.
The Supes/WW gag is literally a single scene and a subtle one, at that... it's meant to be a joke about the character, not a guest appearance. So don't go into it for that... watch Project A-ko because it's one of the better fight/comedy anime of its era.
-EDIT-
Man, you can learn a lot about an old anime like this one from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_A-ko). I didn't know that Kia Asamiya worked on this before he became famous.

A classic of the WTF genre of anime, and a parody that practically became the new mainstream.
The sequels, however, are not good.
thanks for the ops people. You've convinced me enough to get it. :)

If you're planning to buy it I recommened you go on Amazon. They have a deal were you can get all the movies and the series pretty cheap in a boxset.
I'll be ordering mine shortly.

One thing this movie does that i wish more anime would do is hire actual native-English-speaking actors for the native-English-speaking characters...

Oh yeah... That one was weird. Really weird. None of the A-ko sequels were as good as the first one, but that one at least had weirdness going for it. And the fanservicey cohabitating A-ko and B-ko.
