That's interesting, I've actually been thinking of CPWIII and Caio's styles as the most mainstream and least individual of the final 6. I was hoping to see more diverse styles actually.

really??

I think Caio has an unconventional art... something more urban ... like Eduardo Risso or sometimes like Jacen Burrows...

c3po is more mainstream but has a great look for details and scenarios...

Well compared to Reed, McDaid or Nick's style I think Caio's is pretty mainstream looking. That's not a bad thing, that's just how it comes across to me.

Caio and C3PO at the Final! Really Good!
Congratulations for both!

Caio has a style that I like. Also as C3PO, but something, I don't really know what, don't seems well. I'm not saying that his art isn't good, but IMHO, something is missing!

Yeah I think they are both strong and qualified artists but for some reason I just haven't been able to get excited about either one of these guys yet. I guess this time I'll have to vote for one of them if I'm going to vote. ;)

Oh, and by the way I wish there was money riding on this. I predicted this turnout a few rounds back.

Once again, these results are not final.

We are looking into certain votes to see if there was any foul play.

With the numbers this close, please do not count anyone out just yet.

We hope to have the official results posted shortly along with the final assignment... which I think is very cool.

Our guest judge for the finale is even cooler.

Ridiculous... Very, very, very ridiculous...

Brandon Hanvey

We found a few instance of multi-voting again this round, and due to the how close the final results were, we did some more digging.

We found 2 instance of multi-votes in favor of Charles which we subtracted 4 votes.

Both Jon and Dan had no suspect votes that we could find or track.

Caio had one instance of a multi-vote that subtracted 4 votes. We then found 13 votes that had similar email addresses, that voted within 30 minutes of each other (basically about 4 minutes one after the other), with the same IP, and similar birthdays.

We then checked to see if the the email addresses were real. One actually bounced back the test we did meaning is was not a real email address. And none of the others responded.

Ridiculous... Very, very, very ridiculous...

Ridiculous? If this is the result that was found due to fair and accurate votes I don't see how it can be seen as ridiculous. Or did you mean the implication that Caio's were somehow unfair? If so, I don't think it's fair to assume anything untoward about Caio.

Now let's see what the last assignment is, and who this mystery guest judge is.

Just curious, when you find a duplicate vote do you take away the duplicate and the original? Essentially revoking that person's right to vote?

I don't think that's bad, but given how close the numbers were at the end, it would have only taken three 'multi-voters' to have voted legitimately for Caio to have tied Reed.

Caio was harmed

Charles Paul III had several votes suspects. And REED.

Especially at the end of voting

I would like to know the criteria used to define these multiple votes on the same IP.

Because this result, in my view makes the whole credibility of the competition.

But finally, to be abroad, always will be wrong, it is not

You did so well this round and I was so happy to give you my vote, knowing that you truly executed your work the best of all four. This is a tragedy! Major publishers, take note: I want to buy books drawn by Dan McDaid! Give him work and I will pay extra! (But not too much. I'm poor.)

As for Charles, I can't say he's the winner yet but it's almost certain. And yet I am excited to see how Jon Reed will battle against the Wilson III juggernaut. Jon, in my opinion, pulled off an upset here and I would like to see him pull of another one in the finals. My vote (and hopefully your vote) is promised to no one until I (you) see the final results.

You are a true gentleman, Caio.

I want everyone to know that when we first discovered the multi-voting that Caio not only cooperated with us to get to the bottom of things and agreed to whatever our decision would be regarding a recount, but he also offered to take himself out of the competiton when it was found out that two or three of the multi-voters were people he knew from an online community. Caio expressed his embarrassment and disappointment to us and asked to be let out of the competition so as not to cast a negative light on CBI. However, we only thought it fair to let him continue in the contest since he was not directly involved in any of this ballot stuffing by a few over-zealous fans. Caio then took the extra step to plead with his supporters to play fair.

Some posters ask how we know who's cheating? Sometimes those people leave a very obvious trail. Other times we dig and find enough evidence to discount their votes. And in Caio's case, he helped us verify where some of these suspect votes came from.

Thanks, Caio, for not only helping us keep things fair but also for bringing both your talents as an artist and an "ambasssador" to this contest.

Congratulations Reed and CPWIII to making it to the finals. It'll be great to check the final assignment!

Dan and Caio, you are both my favourite artists during the whole competition - not meaning by that the finalists don't deserve to be in the final round.

Unfortunately, there are only two places for the final round at CBI, and you both didn't make it.

Fortunately for all of us comicbook readers, there'splenty of space for all contestants here to be showing their abilities soon at the professional comicbook industry!

It'll be fun to follow the adventures of you 4 "alien kids" in the distant galaxies of Publishing Comics!;)

As for all multivoters (it doesn't matter who you tried to cheat for): did you ever stop to think that you could really be making a potential artist lose his chance here? You tried to help, but the outcome could have been the extreme opposite.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your work out in the big bad world Caio. You've got that rare thing: a distinctive voice. Can't wait!

Now I hope so that Reed wins because I really don´t like de Wilson stile. Ity´s very 'dirty" for me....

Wilson may not be perfect, but "dirty" is the last word I would use to describe his style.

Man, I´m really sad to see that you didn´t make it, because, as I said before, I would really love to see you drawing Spidey. I´m really looking forward to see your work at the play-at-home thread!

Congrats to Reed and C3PO, up to the final Clash. Good Luck guys!

Christ alive. It seems that me liking art makes it disappear. Unbelievable . . .I know it's a popularity contest, but it really irks me that art is in a popularity contest. I think it's striking how many times, especially recently, the judges loved and/or voted for the folks being booted. I've nothing to vote for anymore and no reason to keep on with this competition. That bums me out a bit.

That's funny because the two that are continuing don't seem to be the most popular ones here, or at least they don't have the most vocal fan base.

By "popularity" I mean the "friends and family" factor. It's clear, to me, at least, that those most talented in sequential storytelling are not getting the votes.

Personally I think Jon Reed is very talented as well, my favorite in this competition though he doesn't seem as popular as say Dan or Caio. I also think that Charles is a very talented storyteller. I think it's subjective who is the best storyteller and near impossible to say that objectively.

While I agree that art is subjective, I think some parts are more subjective than others.

The how someone draws or the style can be really subjective since cartooning is a lot about taking things from real life and re-imagining them.

But what someone draws or the way they tell a story is a little less subjective. There are differences in how clearly and the methods used to tell the story that can be judged on some levels of quality.

if you can conlcusively say who is the best, why do we vote and not all just simply agree?

Right..... one person in here has the omniscience to say who knows more than who and to state their opinion as the final word and disavow everyone else's vote, and can discount the factors that informed their vote?

If so, that's very interesting.

I didn't say everyone had the same standard in terms of judging art. I just said that some parts are more subjective than others. In the end, it comes down to what you enjoy. And the factors that makes someone enjoy something may not be the same as others.

Ironically that's the same point I was making. I'm not defending my opinion because that's all it is, an opinion informed and influenced by experience and bias. All I was defending was the idea that people disgruntled with the contest results thus far shouldn't look down on the other voters or their motives.

I also agree with your earlier post. I wasn't referencing that or arguing it because I agreed and had nothing more to add. There are some ways of critiquing artwork that can be very objective - perspective and anatomical accuracy, use of composition and contrasts, etc... - but in terms of saying that any one artist is a definitively better storyteller than another, or to say that one's judgement of who is the best contestant in this contest would be a very hard argument to defend.

By "popularity" I mean the "friends and family" factor. It's clear, to me, at least, that those most talented in sequential storytelling are not getting the votes.

Or perhaps the people that like/vote for them just aren't as vocal. Caio Oliveira had a sizable friend/family contingent who were all over the board, but he still got voted out.

Art is always subjective and beyond the basic structural building blocks of the form, it all comes down to what people like. That's how it works in the actual comics business where fans vote with their wallets. No reason why that same standard shouldn't be good enough to work here.

At the end of the day I'm sure it's "clear" to everyone that the artist they like best is so much better than the ones they don't like so much. With makes us all equally right and equally wrong.
