Hey everyone,
Please excuse my extreme comic innocence, but I'm looking for independent (not Marvel or DC) comics that feature families or husbands and wives. Essentially I'm interested in titles like The Incredibles or Ball and Chain or modern day Flintstones type comics. I'm looking for purposes of exploiting in television so those titles not owned by the big studios or previously aired in TV are rpeferred. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

The best family-oriented comics I can think of both feature non-traditional families.
Usagi Yojimbo, for example, is a sweet, touching book that gives tremendous emotional focus to father/son relationships in "Travels with Jotoro," but neither the father nor son in this circumstance believe that the other one knows their true relationship to one another.
Uncle Scrooge is my absolute favorite family book, but it's two cousins and their nephews. No moms or dads to be found.
What about the old Dell Space Family Robinson comics? I've never read them, but they sound like what you're looking for.

I know you asked for independent titles... but I can't think of any. That and the fact that Ball and Chain was published by an imprint of DC. So I'm going to suggest two DC titles: Blue Beetle and the current run on The Flash. From Marvel I'd suggest Franklin Richards: Son of a Genius.
I'll second Usagi and Uncle Scrooge as well. Sorry I can't make any indy suggestions.

And, of course, the original main stream husband and wife team was Hawkman and Hawkgirl. There's an inexpensive Showcase edition out that reprints their classic adventures.
Stranger in Paradise from Abstract Studio. Most of it is collected in trades.
The Shrek miniseries from Dark Horse
Desperate Times from Image.
Yetz! from Airwave.
Meridian from CrossGen is a lot about family, but not "ha-ha" funny like the other series.
The last four series you'll have to get from some place like milehighcomics.com

If you want to make a tv show about a family, what do you need a comic book for? Sounds like you already know what you want, so just get together with a writer and create the kind of characters/scenario you're interested in.
Oh right, the writers are on strike.

I believe Noble Causes and Dynamo 5 are about families. I haven't read them.
Of course, the Umbrella Academy is about a family of adopted children. These are all of the super-powered sort, of course. On a similar note, Kurt Busiek has written several stories about families and husbands-and-wives in his Astro City comics.
Midnight, Mass, about a husband-and-wife team of paranormal investigators, was a short-lived series (and a follow-up mini) put out by Vertigo, but I believe it was creator-owned.

They are, Jay Faber suggested them on the Image tread. Both are excellent series.
