View Full Version : What is Joe Quesada thinking while drawing "One More Day"?

This is an odd question, but what do you guys legitimately think goes across Joe Quesada's mind while he's drawing One more day. I'm sure his total work on the project has taken hundreds, if not thousands of hours, so he's probably had a lot of time to think about what he's doing.

He probably spends a lot of the time thinking about how the majority of Spider-Man fans will ultimately thank him (whether he's right or not is a different manner entirely.)

I'm sure he's somewhat concerned with what'll happen if the experiment's a failure. But he's gotta be giddy about the possibility that it'll be a success.

He makes enough money as EIC, that it's more likely he'd be thinking "I could have asked Romita to do this. He would have been finished by now, and I could be playing with my kids."

I'm sure he was thinking something along the lines of "Some guys are going to hate this. It'll be worth it."

Every now and then he might feel pissed about his fans. "Don't the guys who hated Avengers Disassembled realize how many good things that's done for the series?"

I meant the money the book will make. I'm sure his salary is fixed. JRjr is good, but Quesada's name on the book will easily add another 10-20 thousand copies.

I can imagine a typical day at the office of Joe Q trying fit time in to do the art for OMD.

After getting done with all his editorial duties, Joe tells says to his secretary:

Joe Q: Now Sandra, I’m going to be in my office for remainder of the day. I’m trying to finish drawing this issue, and I don’t want to be disturbed. So if someone calls in please tell him or her I’m busy.

Secretary: Um…okay

Joe enters his office, and opens up his art supplies on to his dusty drawing desk. Just as he’s starting to draw a figure of Aunt May his office intercom beeps from his secretary.

*BEEP!*

Joe Q: *sigh* Sandra I thought I told you…

Secretary: I’m sorry Mr. Quesada, Gage wanted just to inform you that he changed his mind after talking with Bendis, and he’s going to go with retro Luke Cage look in the HoM Avengers mini.

Joe Q: The silk shirt? I swear Bendis man-crush for Luke Cage is getting creepier and creepier.

Joe then resumes drawing at his desk for a few minutes until…

*BEEP!*

Joe Q: Sandra, please…

Secretary: So sorry, um, Whedon wanted to say that Astonishing X-Men will be delayed…again.

Joe Q: For the love of God!!! My kids will be out of college by the time he finishes that arc!

Joe once again tries to get back to drawing until…

*BEEP!*

Joe Q: THAT’S IT!!!

Joe starts getting green with rage, and then rips the intercom off the wall, storms into his secretary’s office, and jumps on her desk while yelling:

Joe Q: QUESADA SMASH!!!

"If I take my sweet time on this ... maybe get one issue out every 6 or 7 weeks people are gonna be so hungry for regular Spider-Man stories set in the old 616 they'll buy anything after it. Most won't even care if the marriage is gone or not. "

That's actually one of the reasons I think its taking so long. People are tired of waiting. They'll be excited for anything when BND starts with 3 a month. some readers will want to give the new creative teams a try. A lot will probably give them 3 issues each and with 4 creative teams that gets them 1/4 of the year if BND can keep its schedule.

HaHaHa...I love American Dad. Ok, where did I put that script for this OMD issue? Oh, here it is...lemme see now. Um. Okay, that's okay. No wait, I drew his head too big again. Crap. Oh well, it's just a comic book. HAHAHAHA! It's not like anybody can fire me. HA!

[telephone rings]
What? No. No. I said no. Oh wait, you mean the Panther is going to take over for Galactus? And he's going to kill only the white people on Earth this time? I guess that's okay, Reggie. I love your work. Any chance that you can get me on... Reggie, are you still there? Can you hear me now? Crap.

Now, where was I? Oh, yeah, Spidey's big head. Oops. That does look kind of bad. But I'm almost done with this page, I'm not doing it over again. Screw it. Screw the fanboys. Heh, I said screw. If they complain, I'm going to bring back Gwen and kill her again. Twice. I love being Editor-in-Chief.

[telephone rings]
WHAT? Bendis, you can't do that! No! I said no. Aw, c'mon, you can't do that. Fans hated Teen Tony the first time around. Oh, okay. I guess you're right, New Avengers is one of our best-selling titles. Yes, you are the man. Okay, I'll talk to ya. Yeah. Bye.

So what was I doing now? Uhhh, yeah, bighead Spidey. Screw it. This page is done. Now where did I put that script again?

I thought it kind of had a abstract look in the facial features, and I was lovin his Ironman.

I don't know though, I just picked the book off the rack at Barnes and Noble to read while I waited for my food nextdoor, didnt get to actually read it until I got home and took a shit. I just remember likin that wild look, the same way I liked Humberto Ramos' work.

Not sayin Quesada is on Ramos level, but they both have a broad look to em.
