View Full Version : Do you own a Sony PSP?

Im the market for a new handheld console. The last on I owned was the Gameboy Advance. I was checking out both the DS and the PSP and I am leaning towards the PSP. This is not because it's a Sony vs. Nintendo thing, It's just that there are more games the interest me for the PSP than the DS, even though overall the DS has MORE games. Silent HIll Origins, MGS Portable OPS, Infected, Ace Combat X, Burnout compared to Zelda on the DS.
Anyhoo, if you own a PSP, I was wondering if you could give me some honest opinions about your experience. I was thinking of getting the Daxter Slim PSP. How easy it is to use the PSP for the other fuctions such as dowloading music and watching movie? I read on Amazon, that you must constantly update with firmware your PSP to play games, is that true, cuz that sounds pretty annoying.
Are there any defects or technical problems that plague the PSP espically with the new slims?
Thanks for your help.

I own one, and it's a fun system, and I love the bug screen. No problems for me really, but the shiny finish just begs for fingerprints and smears.

I bought one right when they came out, which was a mistake. There were no good games out at the time, except Twisted Metal, so I sold it. Now, I really want to play Metal Gear and the new Castlevania compilation. If I do get a handheld again though, it will be a DS. Nintendo's games are more to my liking, although, I basically worship Metal Gear games.
With the PSP price drop, though, it seems to be a pretty solid buy.

My preferences lean (see: bend) towards games only released on Nintendo systems. For instance, if you're an anime fan (or a fan of manga found in Shounen Jump), a DS is necessity to play the character compendium known as Jump Ultimate Stars. However, both systems have their fair share of good games. It's just my preference to own a DS. Speaking of which, excuse me while I play Blade of Fate, and count down the days until Contra 4 is finally released. x_0

It's very good, though the (rechargable) battery you get with it runs out a bit quickly, at least to me.

Yeah, that's it's biggest fault. Though, when that happens I just switch to my DS :).

I heard you can get a more powerful one?
...Not that I can afford that right now. Yay for being broke.

There's an adaptor thing that extends the life of the battery by a lot, though I don't have it.

Ah. Thank you anyway. :)

If you have the WLAN switch turned to off when you are playing games (obviously when you're not playing multiplayer), it will help conserve battery life. I flew from PA to CA at the beginning of the year, and played my PSP for about 3/4 of the trip (not including sitting in the airport), and it made the trip go by so fast.

I have one. It has some decent games. Some awsome ones. Some features that aren't neccesary like music and video.

My brought mine last December and I love it. I take mine everywhere I go. I already own ten games for it. Yes, you do have to update the filmware and now and then to play games but it isn't annoying. The require filmware comes with the game.

My personal gaming background maximizes my future gaming enjoyment with the PSP. I only own Portable Ops right now, but because I never played Symphony of the Night, I'll get to play it on PSP with an added remake. I never played the Disgaea series, so it's good that it's being released on PSP with added features. Two of my favorite series, Metal Gear and Silent Hill, got canonical releases for the system. And hey, I didn't play Final Fantasy Tactics for PS1 back then either, so maybe I could check that one out too. The PSP rocks. :)

I have one and it makes a great paperweight for me.
I haven't even turned it on in months and haven't really liked a single game outside of Twisted Metal that I've played on it. Too many games, at least the ones I played, were vastly inferior or flawed ports of console games.
