marvel two in one annual #7 starring the thing, by tom defalco & ron wilson

it came out in 1982, this intergalactic boxing champion summons the thing, colossus, sasquatch, wonder man, hulk, and the sub mariner and faces them in boxing matches in a quest to find worthy competiton, ben grimm earns his respect through his perseverance after the champion destroys most of the others.

that's how i remember it anyways, i was only about 5 years old when my brother read it to me the 1st time and i used to ask him to read it to me over and over until i could read it myself. over the years it got lost, i was able to find it online and just recieved it in the mail today. i'm going to read it with my son later.

anybody else have fond memories of this book??

Stories like this are worth seeing, to remind us that almost any comic book can truly be someone's favorite. In a poll, the work of DeFalco and Wilson on MTIO probably wouldn't rank very high among classic comics readers in general, but there are, indeed, those for whom this issue is a very special work. I'm glad you got a copy again, and I'm sure your son will enjoy your reading it to him.

I have a copy. It was an important issue because it gave some type of Strengh and fighting comparison between the Marvel " heavy hitters".

i forgot to say what it was that sparked my memory and caused me to search out this book in the 1st place. i was watching an episode of dexters labratory on cartoon network with my son and the episodes plot was straight form the issue only with monkey in ben grimms role, the justice friends replacing the marvel heros, and a wrestler instead of a boxer as the champion. macho man randy savage did the voice of the wrestler.

anyways i read it to my son and he enjoyed it. it was really nice to share a piece of my childhood with him. as far as the comic goes it's just a really fun book, the story is simple and it's seems like the writer was playing with the characters. i bet it would be fun to write something like that.
