Holy Crap. If anyone watched Smallville. They showed Krypton. It was a mix of the Animated Series/Birthright and the Movies. It looked like something Superman came from if made this century(speaks of the whole show as a modern grounded version). That whole scif fi Flash Gordon/Star Wars thing mixed with DC style space opera like something you'd see in Green Lantern Corps.
That seriously put a massive smile on my face.

It was pretty neat. The show's always more enjoyable when it deals with Krypton.

I thought Krypton looked really good...Zor-El seemed like a nice guy but turned out to be a total jerk and wiped his own daughter's memories...I don't like him!!!
Last night was one of the best shows of this season imo.

I thought that bit about the "living metal" was referring to Brainiac, myself.

haha no. Those 4 are pretty much the same thing, you might aswell just say the Superman movie because those are all based on the original Donner movie, but this takes heavy influence from the Silver Age Krypton and also Birthright and the animated series which the producers are all fans of. I also know they are keeping continuity and when the show started they based Krypton on the Animated Series and then segued Birthright into it. The quote "We have sunsets that last for hours" by Jor-El was awesome, made me think "YES! RED SKY! No Donner Nonsense" but this is a good mix. Johns is rewriting the whole origin for new earth and it is sucking hard, Krypton is just Donner's Krypton, like he's afriad to offend him. Should do it like this Johns. best of both worlds.

I actually watched this episode to see if Smallville had gotten any better or if it was still the waste of time it had become around the third season.
Nope. Same old crap. Only Welling & Rosenbaum look even more bored this season.

Smallville's actually won me over. I gave in and decided I would go ahead and try the first couple of episodes. I wound up marathonning Seasons 1 - 6. :D
Unfortunately, given my work schedule, I generally miss it during the week. Hence, all I know about it's Krypton is that badass pic at the beginning of this thread.
The Red Sky makes me happy, too.

what do you mean man, it's the only medium that shows superman do the things he can actually do. Supes actually punches people. And you can go past the most superman moment of the series which is the entire intro for the season 7 premiere.
if you think rosenbaum looks bored then you are used to cheesy luthor too much, Rosenbaum has brought a level of depth to luthor there never was before, now i don't shake my head at luthor and his comic bookyness, now Luthor is on par with Dr Doom.

I frogot to add Superman Birthright, JB, LC,Superman vol 2 #166, and Superman the animated series. At first I thought it will be more like John Bryne's Krypton but then somewhere around relic I relizied it was like a mivture of JB and donner's version of Krypton. But I like your avvy.

I think Smallville is just wasted potential.
Welling & Rosenbaum were both wonderful, but the scripts they were being given were mostly teen soap opera garbage. Not that there's anything wrong with teen soaps. Had Smallville's teen soapyness been as funny and witty as Gilmore Girls or The O.C. in its first season, it woulda been fine.
But it's bad, horribly written and poorly acted (see: Lana) stuff. Half their storylines are just collossal duds (see: all of Lana's storylines). The characters all end up looking like morons in the end.
Anywho, I don't wanna rain on your parade. If you're still enjoying the show, more power to you. This will likely be the final season. Hope it's a good one. I'm still gonna watch the Finale just to see what Welling and Rosenbaum do with it.

I have no problems with it since it makes Superman uncampy and it actually shows him do cool stuff which we never got to see before, it's fanboy-y. and i don't find the writing bad because you will be hard pressed to find any actual good superman comics, nearly everything before 85 is silly, byrne's stuff is still too comic booky and jurgens decade run is just pretty atrocious. That's why i tell those who say it has bad writing to remember what they're based on. Not much to go on. plus alot of the details they have brought up have been actually even better than the comics. Like batman begins to batman, those little details which makes the origin that much tighter and more profound.

I was skeptical when I first heard the idea of doing a show about Clark Kent before he had his powers and could fly but Smallville won me over. I think its simple storytelling works to convey the emotions of a farm boy in Kansas torn between living an old fashioned life and trying to keep up with the modern world.
You might say the show itself is torn between depicting an old fashioned hero in a modern TV landscape. So its not without its occasional problems and dud characters, although Lana is more interesting to me now that she knows Clark's secret and has one of her own. But I think most importantly they managed to retain the "good" of Clark Kent without having to stretch to make him flawed. He's an alien trying to have anormal life. Thats enough to relate too.
The show I think stepped up to a whole new level starting last year with Oliver Queen. And Clark being shown that the world needs him to use his powers to make a difference (and it happening to be against Lex to make that difference).
All that said, I thought their brief glimpse of Krytpon was quite amazing! And Zor-El saying a Kryptoninan can't escape their destiny. BTW does Zor-El erasing someone's mind make him bad? Cause that would make most of the JLA post-IC bad too.
Of course his trying to have Lara was a problem. But it show's Krypton wasn't the cold sterile place seen before. So that's a new bit to the mythos.

deleting Clarks' secret identity from Fausts mind=good
deleting your creepy come-ons to your sister-in-law and her references to your attempt to kill your brother=bad

Not for nothing, but that was actually the exact theme in about a year's worth of DC stories.

That was what I was trying to say, the JLA erased Batman's memory of too, if I recall (or was my mind messed with?).
Yeah I think the content of what Zor-El deleted was bad and makes him questionable at best. ;)

Kryptonsite has a message from Millar/Gough which says they have scripts up to episode 15 which is a cliffhanger. If the strike doesn't get settled by then the season may be prematurely over.
I'm guessing they would at least then do a mini season for the next year just to finish out.
