School House Rumble, Part 1: Arcadia, school of Old

The group of people were standing in awkawrd silence amidst the rain and wind. They had been standing on the pier for over an hour now, and still the boat hadn't shown up yet.



No one talked to one another, as per what the letter of acceptance had intructed. Once on the boat, however, and the letter said that the restriction would come off.



Finally, after another few minutes, the large boat appeared and docked. At the helm was a grizzled old man, 6'0 feet tall with a scruffy white beard and a cigar in mouth.


"Ye be the new students, aye? Climb aboard then, and be quick abouts it. Bad weather this is, and I wants to be back at Arcadia fore long. Also, if ye wonder why you can understand me, it's because I be a mage, and me boat has a communications spell on it, just like all of Arcadia. That way, ye can speak with one another and comprehend what be said. Now then, haul yer asses up here so that we can set off."

Kekowa picked up his gym bag, Not much in it, change of clothes, tolitries, All he wanted was to start training at this school.

He thought about those he left behind, his followers, His city he worked so hard to change, his homeland.

But he assured himself that if this place could make him into the greatest fighter in the world, he could repay it back ten fold.

One would have been miserable to stand there for so long. His gun-steel blue cheongsam was soaked and now plastered against his body, his glasses were near impossible to look through with the droplets that covered each side, and each gust of wind seemed to cut to the bone with shill, but he didn't seem too uncomfortable.

Once on board, his attitude lackened a change, though now he seemed to occupy his time glancing at the others; now doubt sizing up his fellow students.

Watching one already board the ship, Ramon grabbed his bags, which only contained his favorite book, The Giver, a set of rings, entwined around each other to keep him occupied, and sets of books containing Latin, Runes, Hieroglyphs, Scandinavian, and Kanji. Slinging it over his back all slick like, he flicked his nose clean, and strutted towards the boat, head held high, waiting to begin his journey of mass proportions.

Natalie's wide felt hat was soaked through, immediately losing its form and flopping over over her face, letting the rain in on her hair. Worse still was the way it stuck the onepiece dress to her body; it was like being dressed in a sponge with a wet towel thrown overhead for good measure.

"I mean, it was sunny earlier today..."

The mention of fellow mages, however, was comforting. The great helmsman that had greeted him was, as mages tend to be, deceiving in appearance, for inside him brimmed a luminous astral presence.

Then her mind flew back to her body, shivering, soaked.

"Augh, I need to sit down" she muttered as she bolted on board.

Peter Schmidt, slowly walked forward. He was silent, his ripped and shredded umbrella doing little to shield him from the rain, his glasses covered in large water droplets. He had made sure to keep his guitar strings as dry as possible, but even that had proved nearly impossible.

Making sure he had his belongings, all six of them, he continued to walk with the group, his thoughts only of how he would reach Lost Vegas, and how he would once again inevitably combat Death and the "Will of Heavy Metal".

Xellos stood back, smiling in his soaked hair and clothes. Aversion to getting wet for the sake of remaining dry was a useless instinct. He could have bought an umbrella, but that would have made him stand out, which was undesirable at this stage.

His keen eyes observed how each student boarded the boat. Such little tells would show character. The long wait helped to show who had patience, but this first step towards an uncertain future could show much more. The bold, the timid, the naive, the confident. What lay in the back of their minds would show here.

He would be the last to board. There was no rush. Knowledge now would be power later.

Glancing heavenward, blinking through the descending droplets, the former Shaolin monk gave a sigh. "...hope this trip doesn't take any longer..." He said beneath his breath. Wei Levi didn't carry much, for he didn't own much. A small sack containing any additional clothing and his books were tied down on the spade side of his Monk's spade that he kept behind his back by one hand to keep the staff weapon from growing cumbersome.

Dean was annoyed. Although he liked the rain, watching it and even walking in it, on occassion, to help him focus, he did not enjoy just standing around as the elements had their way with him.

Sure, he was one of the last students to arrive, due to his horrible sense of time, but that didnt make his annoyance any lest justified. The fact that he had arrived a mere two minutes before the boat did, was besides the point to him. Although he hadnt been on the pier as long as the other students, all of the students were equally soaked from the rain, himself included.

The Rain had soaked his clothing to the point that it had became heavy, and hung off him, making his shirt look longer than it actually was. He felt his pants, drenched with water to the point his underwear had began to became soaked themselves. His socks, much to his annoyance, had suffered the same fate as his underwear.

He considered cursing outloud, but none of the other students said a word about the conditions, and It would be a cold day in hell before he was the one to admit weakness. He'd just consider it an annoying part of his training.

After spending several minutes contemplating his woe at being forced to endure such conditions, he realized that most of the other students were already aboard the boat.

He quickly slung his backpack across his shoulder, composed himself, and with a smug grin,walked aboard the boat, as with as much confidence as a man could possess.

Kekowa made his way towards the nearest bench and sat with his leggs crossed indian style. He relaxed his hands in anticipation to meditate.

But before he would he observed as each of his fellow "students" came into the boat after him. Watching their mannerisims, The way they carry their bodies, what they brought, that would reveal all he needed to know. Cruel, callious, devoted, dedicated, selfish, overly friendly.

Kekowa would inquire more when they all got on board.

"BONZAI!" Declared the young man in the Blue Jean Jacket as he flew in the air and landed on the boat...roughly head first on the deck.

"Itai." He said as he slipped off into unconsiousness.

Alexia took a few moments to grab her duffel bag and walk onto the ship. She moved slowly, enjoying what limited freedom she had outside. The rain and cold was a welcome respite from the confines of the hellish prison called home.

She made sure to avoid the other students on the boat, and kept to the railing of the deck. She didn't know if they would try to hurt her or not. Alexia was relatively sure that no fighting would happen here, but one could never be too careful.

The ability to read emotions and sense life auras was something always distracting to the attention span of Natalie Schroeder. Before the large man she was talking with could give an answer, she whispered to him as she pointed out at one of the other students, trying so hard to stoically stride past the rains.

"Heehee...perhaps we all thought it was to be sunny," she murmured, "but let's try not to let the clout outside us get inside our heads."

"Christ, I'm bored. I guess I might as well get some training done while I'm so busy doing nothing. Unless they've got a Television here or something, this is gonna be a long ride."

It quickly occured to Dean, that a guy on a boat, doing pushups, seemingly out of nowhere, might seem a bit wierd to the other students.

It also occured to him, just as quickly, that he didnt care.

He quickly droped to the floor of the boat, and began his training.

He then took out some C-4 (never leave home without it;) ) and set in on fire. A little known fact of the explosive was that, if not under pressure, it was a perfectly safe fuel source. Skewering the eel , he began barbequeing it over the fire.

No one talked to one another, as per what the letter of acceptance had intructed. Once on the boat, however, and the letter said that the restriction would come off.

Finally, after another few minutes, the large boat appeared and docked. At the helm was a grizzled old man, 6'0 feet tall with a scruffy white beard and a cigar in mouth.

"Ye be the new students, aye? Climb aboard then, and be quick abouts it. Bad weather this is, and I wants to be back at Arcadia fore long. Also, if ye wonder why you can understand me, it's because I be a mage, and me boat has a communications spell on it, just like all of Arcadia. That way, ye can speak with one another and comprehend what be said. Now then, haul yer asses up here so that we can set off."

The figure who had until then stood silently, draped entirely in a patterned brown cloak with a large hood that entirely obscured her features. Upon hearing the old man's words, she made a lithe jump onboard the vessel, landing safely and silently on both feet.

Wei Levi eventually walked down below, hoping that perhaps the galley had tea and rice and perhaps some fish since he had two hours to kill. Passing many of the others who had already arrived, he sat alone.

Propping his monk's spade against his seat, he withdrew a book from his traveling sack. Wiping his glasses dry he opened the book and began to read though he kept some of his focus extended to the others, just in case.

Kekowa noticed the interaction between Xelleos and the ladies. The women and the wannabe monk seemed to be the only people Kekowa thought had a decent heart. And now Xelleos was swearving his way in.

I would like to go over their, but I dont want to be the odd man out.

He walked over to one with the monks spade, he had his nose in a book, obviously trying to get some training done himself before he landed.

"Greetings honorable one," Kekowa said bowing deeply with one hand behind his back "I noticed you seem to be one of the only real fighters on this tub, and its a pleasure to see someone else like myself aboad." Kekowa bent back up and extended his hand. "My name Kekowa Hasegawa of Tokyo, Japan."

She tensed up slightly. "Oh...my name is Alexia..." she mumbled. She had to think of something to say. "S- so, Rhia....why did you come to this school?" Alexia forced a small grin onto her face as she pulled down the hood of her grey cloak.

"I came to grow stronger," she said with a smile. "I want to test my skills against strong fighters, and I want to learn even more from great teachers." She sighed slightly and looked down at her fist. "There is... someone I know, the strongest and bravest person I've ever known. I owe him a great debt, but to pay it back I must grow stronger. Stronger then anyone..."

Suddenly she laughed nervously and scratched her head. "Heh, sounds pretty corny, huh?"

Levi closed his book before glancing to the other. Slipping the unnamed book back into his traveler's bag, he rosed before bow as well at the waist. "Wei Levi." He had to admit, the language spell was quite fascinating, for he could tell that most of them weren't Chinese. "Though I am grateful for such a comment, it might be wise not to say such a thing aloud." From what he had seen, some of them might have been insulted and he was in no mood for such drama.

OOC: Can you scream "SOAP OPERA!!"

Yeah, Xellos would find it quite hard to not pull at all the strings dangling in Alexia's messy heart. He'd just be itching to play the two personalities off each other and get them to argue, even though he knows how evil 9delightfully so) it would be. Would make for fun character interaction though. We'll see how it works out later on. That same ability does make him a master psychologist after all. It might prove helpful.

As Dean picked up his backpack and headed towards the stairs, an unhappy thought occured to him.

Knowing my luck, it's something I dont eat, like Coliflower, and veal or something. Damnit. Oh well, I just better focus on not hurting myself any further. Then again, what are the odds of that happening twice-

He slipped and was launched a full five feet into the air, and landed on his back with something resembling the grace of a boulder.

He could really place the emotions with the people just then, it was like being in a sea of feeling, something Hunter couldn't really get used to. Perhaps this school would help him to focus and drown out the emotional noise. But that would be at a later date, for now Hunter found himself cradling his head and singing aloud.
The song was War, and the singing helped him immensely, and soon he was back in control of himself. He had tried to sing it as quietly as he could, but he couldn't help but notice that a few people had noticed and were looking at him strangely.

"Well Mr. Wei Levi whats your story." As soon as he said it he thought about the reaction topside and thought it best if he went first. "Wait sorry, I dont mean to pry, to show you my good faith Ill go first." Kekowa took a sip of his cocoa and set the cup down before he started talking. "Like I said Im from Tokyo, jewel of Asia but it can also be a harsh city.. My parents worked hard to put rice and fish on the table, and put me through school. When I was 10 years old however I saw a bully trying to shake a kid down for money. To this day I dont know what it was but something inside me me snapped and I had to stop it. Turns out the kid was 13 and the son of a big time Yakuza mafioso. So the Kid tore me apart, and as I lay in the dirt in front of my school the boy I saved was scared, looked at me and ran off. At that moment I made solem vow on the blood I had shed. That I would never lose in battle again and that I would become the greatest fighter in the world and use that strength to protect those that cant defend themselfs so that people can no longer be scared." kekowa took another sip. "I ran away and sought out the harest Karate master in all of Japan. I begged him to harden my body and make it strong. And strengthen it he did. 10 mile jogs every day in every weather. repeted beatings with kendo sticks, boards, concrete blocks, training that would kill a full grown man I endured. After a year I went to Mainland China nd studied Kung Fu. It gave me focus it channeled myself, and gave me some interesting techniques. After a year of that I went to my final place of training Tailand to learn their Kickboxing. Turns out that would be my main art, and that training gave me my swiftness many times better than a normal fighter. When I was 13 I returned to my homeland Indumbed with new strength I set out on my goal. I Trained by deafeating various street gangs. I ruled my school at only 14. By 15 I was know as the "Demon King of Tokyo" drawing followers to my cause. and now at 16 I recive this letter about this school and I realize Im far from my goal so I decided to come here in hopes of realizing my dream."

Kekowa took another sip, and realized somehow that he manged to drink it subcounciously and it was already gone.

Why did I just tell him my whole life story thgat was reckless, I dont know I guess maybe I didnt think about it.

As Dean took a sip of his drink, he began to look around and get his impressions of the group he had been stuck to on his voyage.

He didnt think to highly of them. Infact, his expectations were utterly and completely not exceeded. At all.

It's not that there was anything wrong with them, perse, Infact, he'd imagine that he would get along famously with many of them. Of course, he would probally want to kill the other half that he didnt like.

What bothered him, was the fact that on a boat full of fighters, there wasnt any fighting. Now, Dean liked to relax as much as the next guy, and wasnt excessivly violent, but when he had first got his invitaton to the school, he expected a bunch of angry looking, battle scared warriors, who would break into an orgy of violence, on a whim.

Alot of his peers looked downright harmless to him. Oh, he was sure that they wernt, unless Arcadia had looser qualifications for admission than he was aware of. Many of the students looked like they would be more comfortable singing and dancing, then attempting to crush their rivals.

Sure, it's possible they were probally completely merciless, and infact, were battle maniacs who would break into violence the second they felt like it.

But they certainly didnt look like it. It never hurts to look the part, you know.

We should try to be nice to her, I think." Then even lower, she added: "Only, try not to touch her. Oh, and don't ask her about her family. She doesn't seem to like that."

Ramon felt sorta awkward. He tried extending a welcome out to this girl and she just ignored him? Hmm, he’ll figure that one out later. But for now, he’ll just settle. Sprinting down the steps, Ramon looked and saw a big group of fighters talking, eating, and just over all chilling. Getting some cranberry juice, and a sammich, Ramon walked towards the big man with the weird teeth, and the girl he saw before. He sat down quietly and munched on his sandwich. After clearing his mouth, he waited ‘til they paused, and he said to both of them, “Hi, my name is Ramon.”

Hunter went to a corner to sit and silently meditate. He wasn't very good at it anymore. He had found meditation easy when he had been sickly, but now he usually found that he had too much energy to sit still. He gave it up after a few moments and just began to silently watch his fellow new students and maybe see if he could sift through the sea of thoughts and feelings and figure out which feeling and thought went with which person.

The young blonde girl stumbled onto the deck of the ship, holding her forehead. Her face, normally several shades darker, was pale as a sheet at this moment.

"A boat... why'd it have to be a boat..." she mumbled to herself before another wave of nausea crashed over her, sending her charging to the railing, where she leaned over it and began heaving everything left in her stomach.

After a few moments, she felt safe to move away, and slid to a seated position, leaning against the railing as she groaned quietly, rubbing her stomach in an attempt to ease the sea sickness.

However, it proved futile as she was forced to get to her feet and lean over the railing again, another heaving fit hitting her.

"I asked the old driver whats going on and he said that we went through a portal to get us their much quicker. He was kinda annoyed that I figured it out because it was supposed to be a secret but I think he's ok now." kekowa looked over the horizon and saw the Island. "It would be great if you stayed topside, I'd hate to be the only one that catches the first glimpse of the place we will call home."

It was Toban's Spirit Guide, a book on virtually all things supernatural that he had bought at Ray's something or other when he had vacationed in New York. Perhaps it would prove useful in a school that boasted pyschics and mages. He placed it in a coat pocket and quickly put back his other books.
Well, he put back most books except for one particular dusty old tome that had no cover title. He had never been able to read it, and desired not to, but he couldn't bring himself to get rid of it. However it was currently casting a harsh, red glow upon the room. He quickly stuffed it in a bag and hoped no one noticed. What was with that red light emitting from the book? It had never done that before.

Seeking to become strong as a means of protecting those you love is the true purpouse of martial arts! You couldn't have chosen a more noble goal." She smiled brightly and put her fist over her heart. "Don't worry, you'll make it. I can feel it, right here. It doesn't matter if they have magic or can read minds or whatever, the important thing is that you stay true to yourself and battle for what you belive in. That's how we win, in the end. That's how we become heroes!"
