"I suppose I could try..." Hunter said, feeling a little nervous. He had never tried to contact a demon in a book before.
Hunter took the glowing book out of his pack. It almost burned in his hands. He slowly, tentatively sent his thoughts into the book...and was sucked into some strange dimensional plane...
"Took you long enough," a demon cowboy said, a wicked grin spreading across his face. Hunter stared at the demon, who looked like:
http://tvmedia.ign.com/tv/image/article/720/720118/afrosamurai-justice_1153489417-000.jpg
"What do you want? To possess me?"
"No," the devil replied. "Not to own, not to control, not to take and not to mold." The devil walked closer to Hunter. "I want more from you than simple possession or any other trick. I desire only to corrupt you."
"Corrupt me?" Hunter said, worried and freaking out.
"You will be my legacy. There aren't many of us Triumvirates you know," the demon said, holding up his own sentient spell guns. "Triumvirate, Three in One, the demon kings. In fact enough time has passed that I may be the only one. And I am dying. Even a devil as great as I has to die sometime, and I'll be trice damned if I'm going to be the last!"
"I don't understand," Hunter said, trying to back up but running into a wall.
"You should, I've been preparing you to take my place, for almost a decade now. Sick in bed, battered and bruised cause of your own frail body, wishing for any life except this, any path except sickness and death. And I heard you, I accepted your pleas. The path I offered was the path of Kings! And your soul accepted. Now it is time, my son, my heir, my young demon, for you to take that path..." the devil said before fading away like mist, dying at last in peace.
Hunter felt pain, his body was hot, feverishly hot. His breaths were ragged. Then it felt as though his soul exploded. He fell to his knees crying, back in the world of humans...a world he now no longer belonged in...

OOC: They're in a forest, looking for a temple, the forest is alive and not freindly, some people are arguing over leadership, Henry passed out after a mad tirade, and Hunter is no longer human.

OOC: Im back, and GrandpaGen, mostly good job handling Kekowa. Next time i'd prefer if you'd tone down the jerkiness but overall nice job. Also I think you got the brothers mixed up. I think you ment to say to Sirus the older brother, what you said to Henry the younger. At least that would make more sense, I would try to console henry and not make him mad. Is their anyway we can retcon that?

Still, evne if we exocrize the demons from Henry, I still say we knock him th **** out. Becase I could not stand what that litle **** was talking about. Though I am proud of how everyone els ehas carried on so far. So I guess i will admit this.

How's the pacing so far?
I wish it wouldn't be so fast. A lot of us get left behind when the story really gets going. Keeping a slower pace would be nice.
The story?
Going great.
The setting?
Above expectation.
Anything else?
Not right now, no.

Peter was tempted to smile, and tried not to, but he couldn't contain a slight twitch of his lips. He helped Selma to her feet, "No problem."
OOC: G'night!
"Thank you Peter." Selma muttered as she was helped to her feet. As soon as she was standing, she placed her arms around his neck in an appreciative hug.

Hunter had fallen to his knees. Was mere communication with the demon enough to overwhelm him? He wasn't that weak! Yet he was displaying all the signs of great uoheavel in his soul...and the book was reacting strangely.

I never expected him to lose this quickly...what could the demon have done? I'm gonna get as much of you back as I can, whatever it takes. Even if it means joining Henry into digging into the furtherst corners of your mind...

Its not Clerics' fault the RPG expands at the rate it does. We're all so busy RPing, and we end up creating side stories within the main one. Kekowa and I vying for leadership and Hunters' recent contact with his demon book going awry are just some examples of this. So it kinda explodes once we all got a good feel to run with.
OOC: Okay, seriously; what is going on? oO
I posed a summary on page 133. Its still mostly relevant and only 1 page of real story has been written since then, which I'm sure you can read conventionally.

Hell, everytime I log on, another 10, 20, to 30 pages have already gone by. This is why I'm just waiting for the missions, cuz its the only thing I'll have time to work on.
Heh. I'm not sure if should be insulted or relieved my own mission based RPs never take off like this...

OOC: I don't mind the expansion per se, and the side stories I'm okay with. I just wish that most of the actual storyline and storyline-related action wouldn't consistently advance at such an elevated rate when I'm not available. :(
I mean, it's not like I'm tied up with real life business or anything; In fact, I go out of my way to be online practically 24/7 just to be able to participate with this RPG as much as possible, but I still need to sleep. I realize it's generally not possible for me and Cleric to be active at the same time all the time, but a slower pace would help, and it's not like we're in a rush to finish this or anything.

Blast it, it's Xelloes's fault for convincing Hunter to go demon in the first place. The logical thing to do is leave, take Henry with us as far as possible to the shrine, have Sirus gaurd him while we go in, and then grab him before we get transported out. But thats a little too cold-blooded even for me, especially with this crowd. Like Xellos said these arnt street punks these are fighters, comrades in arms, warriors like me.
Kekowa noticed Xellos concern It seems genuine, however it could be his plan did not go his way. Either way I shall swallow my pride for now. He walked over to hunter and Xellos
"Is their anything I can do, this is partly my fault."

Don't worry about it, man. Once we hit Xanadu and the Shrine, things should slow down a bit due to traps and challenges that magic, ki, and psychic energy can't solve.

The most active time of this thread starts about 6 hours from now and carries on for about 6 hours or less depending on how much RP we do. I actually do alot of RPing while I work. I got a job with some slack in a conscript 2 year service.
And this thread was fascinating enough for me to wake up at 4am in my country to continue RPing (which was about an hour ago in my country). Since I've discovered it just tends to move a page or 2 during this time though, I think I'll stop interrupting my sleep for it (I slept earlier last night to compensate, so I'm not actually losing sleep time).

This brings up an interesting point:
Would some people prefer to there to be two RP threads? One for side-stories and general RPing between main events, while the main thread is based around the main events? This way those of us who want to participate in the main story don't get totally lost in the massive amount of side-RPing. Its a lot to catch up on, and can make it difficult to backtrack to try and figure out whose where, what, when, and what's relevant to the main story or just on the side.

Yeah, unfortunately, that is exactly when my job has me working, so I only get to come on the tail end of the RPing, when mostof the posters are packing in for the night.

OOC: That's not my point. The point is, if this trend continues I probably won't be around by the time we hit Xanadu, which means Rhia won't even be active enough to get stuck in any traps or participate in the challenges to begin with. :(

As a comparisson, where I live "normal" people get to bed right around now. And in order to participate in this thread as much as I'd like, I'd need to go to bed sometime after lunchtime and wake up in the middle of the night.
That's not to say I couldn't do this, but, well... >>

Hell no! For the most part, the side stories are the only thing slowing this baby down enough for me to hang on. Hell, the brunt of ALL my activity in this thread has been bleeding side-story stuff!

Hunter felt pain, his body was hot, feverishly hot. His breaths were ragged. Then it felt as though his soul exploded. He fell to his knees crying, back in the world of humans...a world he now no longer belonged in...
Ramon was experiencing a feeling that he had rarely felt in a long time. Fury. A friggin’ vine grabbed him by his ankles and actually threw him into the air. Thank god he had friends who actually saved him. But now, now he was done being the passive/assertive wallflower-like person. Taking off his necklace, Ramon conjured up his sword. He looked over at Hunter who he saw writhing in pain. He dashes over to him.
“I have an idea. I can seal your magic for three days. I figure by then we’ll get out of here and Jericho could get you fixed. I figure if your magic is severed for a bit, than you can at least function here.”

Hunter closed his eyes as steam developed in his tearducts. Demons didn't cry. His mind felt shattered, his body heaved, his bones ached, and then...the pain was gone, just as quickly as it had come on, it had departed. The Tome of Uncreation caught fire and burned away til not even ash remained. It's work was done, it had uncreated a man, and built up a demon.
Hunter slowly got to his feet. He blinked a couple of times, then walked towards the fallen pyschic. He held Henry's head in his hands, and with a red surge of power that flowed through his body and into Henry Hunter blasted the strange demon out of his fellow student.
The demon scrambled around strangely, wandering where it was and what had happened. It was now on the physical plane, in plain veiw of all around.
"Go now, leave us, find another host away from here," Hunter said without even looking at the demon. The demon mouthed the question, 'Triumvirate?' and quickly ran off.

It's just that it also alienates those of us who can't consistantly be here everyday during the times when the core group is present. And time spent going back and reading through 20-30 pages of posts everytime you manage to get back on-line,takes away from actual RPing time for that pster, so for some, there can be a perpetual feeling of catch-up, or end up becoming a repeating cameo, popping into the game at odd intervals, and butting into other peoples stuff.
I'm not saying the others should even have to slow down; hell, I wish I could join in on the fun. It's just that for those of us who can't keep up with the side-stuff, it would be nice if there was a way to focus the story down, or perhaps another thread or something to be able to tackle the main events without getting lost in the side-RPing.
EDIT: Eh, forget I said anything, I guess. Bad suggestion on my part.

I agree. I teach, have a social life, I'm about to get Super Mario Galaxy today, etc. What if we still could do side stories, but not by that much, and create a off topic School House Rumble thread for all of the rest of the blurbs we have and what nots?

Don't worry about it, man. Once we hit Xanadu and the Shrine, things should slow down a bit due to traps and challenges that magic, ki, and psychic energy can't solve.
You all better get your thinking caps on for this!:D :evilsmile
OOC: damn, why did I put my intelligence stat to 3? The characters are only as smart as their authors, D'OH!!!
Natalie stood up from where Xellos had left her, still shaken from the visage of the Rage Demon that was trapped in Henry's mind. There was a strange essence in the air of the living forest, as though a vacuum had grown in the shroud of life energy that radiated from it.
Then, she saw a devil manifest in the corporeal realm, something that should never happen naturally. It was extradimensional summoning. The only one who could have done that was...
"...Hunter?

OOC: Why don't we kinda pass it back and forth until Cleric gets back? Like, I dunno, go through four minor monsters or so? Anyone wanna go first?
Natalie had recovered while Hunter was using the book. Now that the pary was moving again, he asked her,
"Are you feeling better now?"
"Yes...I was just tired, that's all...but Hunter, I'm worried about him. While he is in control of that power for now, it's extremely dangerous."
She smiled. "I guess that's a roundabout way of saying: 'don't worry so much, things will work out.' If anything, this forest is the least of our troubles right now."
"Are you always this optimistic?" Rhia asked. "Come on, we're supposed to be the greatest talents this world has to offer. Besides, no one's died yet. I'm sure the teachers know what they're doing."
"The instructors at school were insane to send us out here alone. Utterly insane." Selma muttered, rubbing her eyes slightly.
Sighing, she walked over to Natalie, gently lifted her up, and set her against her back, using her hands as a seat for her friend as she said "Well, let's hurry up and get that damn Idol and return to school."
As she started walking she continued "But I'm certain the "teachers" are waiting for those of us who survive to return for more punishment for whatever sins we commited against them."
"You would hope so, but...assuming Atlantis itself was a demonic entity possessing the bodies of land, just what would the faculty wish to prove by grafting a peice of it in the yard? Perhaps, Selma, that one spirit earlier is the only thing keeping it benign."

"Yes. Yes it is...Nat, I asked Hunter to try to leash his book demon and use it drive out the one within Henry. I thought Hunters' demon would try to control or possess him. I was prepared to help him combat that. It...changed him. A demon was desperate enough to willingly exert itself to death just to change a host. Its almost unprecedented. I became his room mate to protect him from the dangers of his powers...I failed him."

An apple fell from the branches above, landing within the waiting hand of Wei Levi, who nodded to the tree, "Thank you." As various theories of why the forest was, Levi simply bit into the fruit. Master Wan and Monk Shu might have been able to purify the forest, but Levi had left the temples before such teachings had been handed to him. He would just have to try his best to not anger the forest and its denizens.

Peter watched in shock as the entire forest floor seemed to shift, roots twisting and manipulating themselves until a massive arm appeared. Another arm soon followed, and they worked in unison to push a massive, torso out of the ground. On the face of the massive creature was a pair of two merciless, golden eyes with no pupils to speak of.
Normally, it should have been impossible to tell which direction the creature was looking, but Peter felt- no, he knew that the thorn laden creature's eyes were upon the students. It sliced through his very core to feel such eyes upon him.
The massive creature seemed to pause for a moment, and then with a heave ripped it's right leg from the ground, trees flung from their places, sailing through the air with incredible force. Then, there was another yank, and the second leg was free, more debris ripping through the air.
Now, Peter could behold the thorn laden creature in it's full glory, towering over the forest, visible from miles away. It stared down at them, and for the first time in his life, Peter truly felt that he was utterly insignificant. Insignificant to this mammoth creature before him, with thorns the size of cars covering it's body, dirt and foliage slowly loosing it's grip on the creature and tumbling to the ground.
The creature brought it's hand forward, and the sky turned black as thorns the size of small Christmas trees fell from the sky like a horrible, spindly, rain.

"The smaller ones must go first so we can focus our attention toward the bigger one." He murmured as he sidestepped another snap made by his chosen wyrm. "As for how to defeat the big one..." He leaped back once more, though this time drove his extended index and middle fingers into one of the wyrm's crimson eyes, causing it to howl in pain. "...Rhia's 'burn-it-down' plan sounds good enough to me..."
Rhia had managed to sever the mandible of one of the wyrms, and was now dodging it's crazed strikes with with great agility.
"Just try not... to set... the forest on fire... as well!" she shouted in between the attacks.

What's your magic skill?
OOC: I go with small car busting. It's made of wood so it didn't seem like much force would be needed just the right kind. Hunter's attack power is actually small, but widely varied. Just got to keep telling my self, small car buster, small car buster.:D

"Oh crap," Hunter said, putting the gun to his head and pulling the trigger while screaming, "Smoke Demon!" Suddenly he was but smoke, thorns landing all around him and through him. The spell quickly wore off once the barrage of wooden projectiles had stopped falling, Hunter shifting back to blood and bone. He wouldn't be able to use a spell like that one again for a while.

Xellos noticed Alexias' concern. He nodded his appreciation.
Xellos quickly readied his staff, frost pouring forth.
"If you're going meelee, avoid the jaws and don't get crushed under the body! Best place to hit is the underbelly or that soft neck area after the bony plates behind and beneath its head! ."
Jumping onto its head, he swatted its eyes with his staff, freezing them over. He jumped onto a nearby branch as the creature thrashed about, not wishing to be thrown off.
Oh hell might as well try Kekowa thought as he raced to the now blind beast. He was easily able to blitz it. He gave it a quick kick to the belly to confuse it and make it turn around. Then he Lept onto the creatures back side and saw the place Xelloes talked about. "Eat this sucker!" Kekowa said as he let loose a powerful blow into the Wryms weak spot in his head. The monster made a sicking scream and thrashed about. Kekowa managed to hang on. "All right time to have a meeting of the minds." Kekowa charged up his fist and formed it into a claw and thrust with all his might, claeving his arm deep into the creatures head. Kekowa's arm wriggled around in the head untill he felt what appeared to be an organ. He pulled out some thing that looked like brains and kidneys put together. He repeated pulling out parts untill the Wrym fell dead. "Now thats what I call a sticky situation." HE apvanced on to the scene having defeated his monster he called out. "Just try not... to set... the forest on fire... as well!" she shouted in between the attacks.
"Indeed, such a reminder is wise to remember. The last thing we need is more of the forest to grow angry with us." Twirling the monk's spade before him, the crescent tips embedded themselves into the top and lower parts of the wyrm's gaping maw. Roaring out in pain, it whipped back its head and Levi with it. Hanging onto the yuèyáchan staff as the wyrm snapped its head about, he finally planted each of feet against its side manibles.
He had to act quickly for the bottom two manibles were still free and closing in toward his back.

As Dean sped towards one of the Wyrms, a stray Thorn descended from the air, poised to crush or Impale him, or some gory fusion of the both. Dean noticed the shadow the thorn was creating as it fell, and quickly took measures to prevent it from killing him.
Just before the thorn was close enough to dean that he could admire its every detail, he quickly spun to the side, hitting the thorn with a backfist, shattering it into pieces.
"Well, That was close. I suppose-" Before Dean could finish his sentence, a Wyrm flicked it's tail with supernatural speed, sending him on a collision course with a tree.
Fortunately, that was the same tree Xellos had jumped to. Forming a blunt scythe blade on the end of his staff, he hooked his legs in the branch, icing around his feet to form an "ice swing joint".
Catching Dean with the scythe, he swung him about, using his own momentum to power them right way up. He then released his tough friend, sending him hurtling back at the wyrm, the impact driving it through another tree.

Very dry in fact.
Smirking to herself, she spread her hands before her and muttered "Hotarubi..." From them a series of small, glowing balls flew from her hands and toward the elemental, attacking to its skin.
Normally, the technique was good for little more than lighting candles. But with a monster made of dry kindling...

Tearing out the monk's spade with his left hand, the weapon wa sbrought behind him; barely catching the manibles in time. Bringing back his right hand Levi would strike the beast right between the eyes with the heel of his palm.
The orb of ki in his palm, though small, revealed its power upon impact of the strike. Erupting like a bomb, the upper half of the wyrm's head and body exploded into a a shower of gore. Landing upon the earth, his palm smoking, Levi turned to the remaining creatures.

2 of us posted conflicting points about rescuing your sword, and the wyrms you killed was dead a few posts ago.
Whats left is the thorn monster and the undeground wyrm, which seems to be beneath Kekowa and Natalie at the moment from what Silver Knight typed.
OOC: Actually the one that had burrowed underground was supposed to have caught Rhia in a python-bind.
Unless that's already been taken care of?

As thorns descended, Levi ascended. Using the much wider sides, the former monk used the projectiles as springboards somewhat. Leaping off one thorn, he swung the spade end of the yuèyáchan toward the mass of the thorns. Unfortunately, what damage he did do to the creature was nothing more than a scratch and as for him, well the 'fun' was about to begin.
Gravity took hold of him, dragging him toward the earth, only to find himself followed by more of the projectile thorns. Twisting and turning in the air he fought to get out from beneath one. As the thorn descended next to him, he finally kicked off its side, landing in a skid across the ground below.

As Xellos put out the stray fires with his ice magic, his mind was racing for a solution. Then it hit him.
We're still walking near along a route near the chasm. It can't be more than a couple hundred metres away.
Xellos quickly made his way from branch to branch, finally reaching the huge yawning hole they had seen before. It was a breath taking sight. Gathering a large store of magic, he plunged his staff into the ground, creating an ice blanket stretching several dozen metres along the edge.
Though drained, he ran back as fast as he could, then called to his team mates.
"Drive it into the chasm! I've set it up to make the job easier. Go for it!"

Then it locked eyes with Dean.
Keeping one arm over the main section of the group, it brought it's other arm up, a massive barrage aimed solely at the cocky bastard who had thrown a thorn at it's crotch.
Dean had ran this scenario through his mind, mere seconds before he attacked the Thorn. However, there were some key differences between his vision and reality.
In his vision, the Thorn, upon recieving the impressive impact to its crotch, would scream in agonzing pain, barely able to stand, and eventually dropping to the ground, unconcious from the pain. At which point, Dean and his comrades, after peeing on said Thorn, would use it for fire wood.
Not only was said Thorn *not* hurt, it was pissed. At Dean.
"Crap" was all he said as the attack began and he attempted to mount a defense, or rather, survive.

OOC: It was Chrosis' idea. But honestly, it's a damned tough opponent.

Natalie had finally noticed a small pattern with the Thorn Monster's movements and actions. It was mostly a hunch, but she needed to know.
"Your Snake Bite, I will need you to use it..."
She reached towards him with a gesture. Using her Astral Avatar, she suddenly hoisted him up with an invisible hand.
"The root, Daichi, sever the root!"
And with a burst of spirit energy made corporeal, she put what she had into Daichi in preparation for letting him fly.
"GO!"
OOC: Fastball Special, Schoolhouse style :)
:And Daichi grit shis teeht a she wa slaunched and saw the root along the soil. As he spoke.:
BY THE POWER OF GREY SKULL!!!!!!!!!!! :As he wa smad that this thing hurt his friend, ver ymad indeed.:
:And he takcle dthe root and griped his hands around it and even bites it, getting his lips cut as he triggers it.:

:The Tirpple Snake Bite with both hands and his mouth crushed the root into dust, as he hit the thing at full pwoer, times three, as deep within his body, the Heaven,Eart,h and Human spheres were triggered.:
:And a shte root became dust Daichi fell on his ass as the root was gone.:

OOC: We got bored :D a lot of people can't make it for the usual hours so eh, Chrosis and I thought we'd give them something to cut their teeth on. This should resolve itself any moment, tho.

Just glad you had some fun while I was out. Sorry, but I was watching that two-hour Mythbuster special. It was quite good.:)
Once the thing is defeated, I'm here to led you to Xanadu.

OOC: Of which fatality is canon so far/
As the Dai-oken seems to be a popular ender when a mage uses it.

Hearing Selma and Natalie, Tamiko changed course and ran over to them. "Oh my god, please don't move. Let me try a healing spell, please!" As Tamiko let go of her spear and it levitated over her head, she clasped her hands together, then started to make a new hand sign.
Natalie grabbed Tamiko's hand in a weak grip.
"No, not now, Tamiko! Save your energy, use it to sever the root, see what Herr Daichi has done?"
