"This is a protection pendant. It stops all harmful magical, psionic, and ki attacks. It'll protect you if your brother's not aound, okay?"

Nothing but an air of silent darkness, so strange that a void of a presence would exist at all. And yet, the manner he carried himself in was so very eloquent, almost friendly, as if he genuinely cared for the Arcadian students, and really was watching in earnest.

So why was she afraid?

Brief summary of the Xellos/Khanda/KRIEG spy thriller so far.:D

KRIEG is a terrorist organisation that wants to overthrow Khanda, a utopian country with very advanced technology but semi-pacifistic and isolationist beliefs. It also wants to obtain this unique super-ore called Orikhan, that does all kinds of things that Ghost hasn't gotten into great detail about.

Xellos's coperation, Xanatos Enterprises, has considerable assets and investment within Khanda.

ZAHLEN is an elite team of agents for KRIEG. Their leader, Gilead Kain AKA Nihil Dux, approached Xellos and recruited him to conduct espionage on Khanda, promising Khanda's advanced technologies and continued business within the Khandian islands once government was restored.

Xellos's first mission was to discover the identity of Operative XIII from the Khandian rulers, a Khandian spy who KRIEG had recently discovered the existence of and feared had infiltrated them.

Xellos met the Khandian rulers, King Kiran and Queen Rakhsha, but then revealed that KRIEG had hired him and he hoped to leverage his position to foil the terrorist organisation's plans and eventually devastate it. It was then found out that the recruiter was from ZAHLEN upon Xellos's description.

King Kiran briefed Xellos on ZAHLEN, and gave a few hints indicating that Operative XIII was a member of them, though he didn't say which one. Xellos formed a plan to mislead KRIEG by telling them that the spy had direct access to council information. After discussing it with Kiran, Xellos left.

Xellos spoke with Nihil, but instead of telling him the story he was supposed to have done after the discussion with Kiran, he revealed that he'd told Kiran that he was a double agent against KRIEG. Thus, Kiran was going to be supplying him with information that Xellos could then relay to KRIEG.

Xellos also told Nihil that the spy was a member of ZAHLEN, but told him it was Quator. When asked how he knew this, Xellos replied with a semi-fictional version of events that had happened during the briefing. He said he'd only been told straight out that the spy was a member of ZAHLEN, but due to a couple of inadvertant giveaways by the Khandian rulers he'd deducted that Quator was the one (his line of deduction having been explained on the earlier 1070+ page region).

So what is Xellos really doing? Has he betrayed Khanda? Is he betraying KRIEG? Which side is he really a double agent for? Find out by continuing to keep track of this plotline!:D

When the school tournament came around, they both defeated every opponent until they faced each other in the ring."

Nihil's face took on a vacant expression, as if he could still see the events he was retelling before his mind's eye. "The prince... he was magnificent! It was like... like fighting a god. The young man did his best, but in the end, he simply could not win."

"And now comes the strange part," Nihil said, holding up a finger to Xellos. "The young man found that he was not in fact angered by his failure. Indeed, he was happy. He was happy because he had finally found a challenge! Then and there, he decided that becoming strong enough to defeat the prince would be his goal, his one purpose. At long last, he had something worth living for."

Nihil fell silent for a moment, and then shrugged. "And so, after graduating, he joined an international brotherhood bent on world domination, and in return for his undying loyalty they used their technology to enhance his powers well beyond his natural capabilities. And now he will finally, after all these years, have a chance to test his strength against the ultimate opponent."

Smiling, he held his hands out in a grand gesture. "The end."

So I'm sharing my bed with my nephew, who loves taking up as much space as possible, and my dog. I like my personal space... Then one of my cats escaped, and got on my bed.
