Death to the infidels, my first impression of Mobile Suit Gundam 00. In the credits I saw some girl similar to Anemone, and oddly enough, in the opening scene, I felt as thought I was watching mecha-infused Eureka Seven. Generally, I have not been a fan of mecha-centered anime. Eureka Seven was more of a drama with humanized robo play (Niruvashu), and Neon Genesis Evangelion heavily coalesced itself with Judeo-Christian ideals, as if it were adjudicated by a god. I watch as though it is an original series, with its name having no previous origin. I did not like how they went directly to fighting in the first episode. I prefer it when a series elaborates on the backstory in the first few, ten episodes, and then proceeds with combat. I guess I am more story-oriented than action-lusting. So, I gather how a Gundam infiltrated a military operation, as a way of finding out its weakness, or something, and then went on to defend a spaceship that harbored a festive gathering of sorts. It ended with a declaration of war. I did find the ending especially interesting. Let's just say, if the opening scene was the premise and style of the series, I would be a fan. I guess I am not a fan of space as a primary story location. Visually, it is a beautiful series. I do tend to gravitate towards story-concentrated anime, but, so far, Gundam 00 isn't bad, and the opening with L'Arc~en~Ciel is definitely a plus. If I am certain of one thing, it's that the Back Horn music at the closing needs to go. I really do not like that band.

anyone been watching this? I think its ok so far although I'm not digging the Heero Yuy clone. I'm curious to see who in the three nations evolves into our bad guy/group.

I have, and this is the first Gundam series I have ever followed, so I really can't compare it to any others.
But I am loving this series. I find it terribly annoying to have to wait a full week between episodes! That is a sign of a good anime for me :)

Great minds think alike. I've felt the same way watching Cowboy Bebop on Cartoon Network and watching Galaxy railways via Netflix

I'm watching it, and as a long time fan of Gundam series, I can say it's not bad as of yet.
I, too, don'r particularly care for the Heero Yui clone but I'll give him a chance.

Sadly, I've had to resort to the Method That Shall Not Be Named to watch Gundam 00 because there is no broadcaster in Canada (yet) and all the likely candidates will probably be showing dubs that have had all the best parts cut out so they can play it in those "kid friendly" timeslots.
But thanks to the Method That Shall Not Be Named, I can watch the show in HD, subtitled, uncut and about a week behind the Japanese broadcast. Oh, and when the official R1 box set(s) come out, I am first in line to get them.

I like it so far. Though it's weird that there's no proper space colonies.

Maybe they just haven't shown them yet? I mean, the people working at the sites where Celestial Being developed the gundams have to live somewhere.

This isn't spoiling anything but right from the get go the Gundam team and Celestial Being itself are suppose to be the "bad guys". They are in a fact terrorist group themselves imposing their will over the Earth. It isn't like Gundam Wing for example where the Gundam pilots were targeting the OZ group within the Earth Sphere Alliance and it was shown that OZ was bad (well it's leaders mainly since it was clear Noin wasn't bad and she was apart of it) and they were trying to get revenge for the killing of the original Heero Yuy. CB is just going after everyone unprovoked to force their ideals while the Union, AEU, and HRL are not without their problems and wrong doings are defending themselves. For the most part the world was in a cold war type status (they weren't actively fighting each other but they weren't going to let the other become more powerful then themselves so they continued to advance themselves) until Gundam showed up and started causing chaos.
CB's actions are in part the Kira Yamato and Lacus Cline faction's interference attacks in Gundam SEED Destiny played out in a more logical way I think. However that's kind of a over simplification of it if you want another Gundam comparison.

I haven't seen Gundam since Endless Waltz. If anyone has seen that movie, how this show compare? Is it related even tangentialy? Or a whole new Gundam seires entirely?

Gundam 00 is a whole new gundam series with no connection to any other. Like all Gundam series though you see similar elements that are standard for the franchise though.
On the whole I found Gundam 00 to be a pretty good series. The best that has been put out in a long time. I'd say it's a more mature and more "realistic" (as much as you can be in terms of a giant robot show).
If Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny were more closer to the "Super Robot" type of show Gundam 00 has closer to the "Real Robot" style that the Gundam franchise originally was. For example the skill of the pilots in this show matters a lot. The gundams are powerful but the non-gundam pilots can hold their own at times in grunt suits and even upgraded custom suits. The gundam pilots aren't the best in this series.
I enjoyed Gundam Wing and Endless Waltz a lot but I found this to be a far better show all around from animation to characters to story and balance between the various sides.

i dont know if this has been announced but Gundam 00 is two seasons long with the 2nd season airing now in japan.
Currently upto episode 11 of the 2nd season.
1st season ends at around episode 25.
Its pretty good a couple of twists here and there that i wasn't expecting.
And a continuing custom of characters that just will not die, as half the cast is offed in the final episodes of Season1 with 1/3 of those off'd somehow miraculously pulling off a Mwu and comming back for the 2nd Season/

Most Gundam series create their own alternate universe. They are not related.

Jeez the Gundams just got their assess handed to them in tonights episodes. They won the battle but with so many screw ups they might as well have not. This will probably come back and bite them.

Perhaps its that I'm not watching while its already in the middle of a storyline, but I didn't find this particular iteration of Gundam very appealing. The animation can be described as simplistic with a paucity of detail and addition of CGI created Gundams junxtaposed with the animation of the 2-D characters made for a visually unacceptible mix for me. I can't say anything critical of the story since I'm not abreast of what'a happening with the plot, but for all the other reasons I stated I don't myself returning to this series.
I'm enjoying 00, I'm actually surprised how much elements they take from Universal Century (the main and first Gundam universe, I'm probably the only here who have seen them) in the second season notably the pacing of episodes, the fight choreography, newtype powers and other elements which I won't spoil for those who have just started watching this on US television.
As for the first season, I thought it was mostly boring until the end. :)

Episode 23 in the first season made me cry. Though I am kind of hoping they get around to doing something with Lyle in S2 eventually so it wasn't in vain.
What I like about 00 so far is that it's not just episode after episode of big Mecha trashing other Mecha. There's an actual story behind it.

I've been trying to follow this since intermittently. Tonight was a two-hour block, I don't know how long they've been doing that. I try to avoid spoilers, so I don't know if the developments (lots of probable-but-not-certain deaths) is setting up the end of a season or the whole series.
I quite like the animation. The action looks cool and the characters are distinctive.
It does remind me of Gundam which I really liked, even though the plot didn't make a lick of sense. Double Zero is better executed in that regard. And even when I miss a few episodes I can still follow it pretty well.
I find myself frequently rooting for the underpowered coalition forces that have these bold and clever plans to destroy Celestial Being, only to be thwarted when the Gundams pull new abilities out of nowhere. There are quite a few sympathetic characters opposing the gundams. In fact, I think those types outnumber the outright villains.

Just watched S2 ep20.
Man, the show bungled that relationship.
The ep itself was brilliantly done, but it just can't overcome the lack of proper buildup. If those flashbacks had actually happened onscreen ... If they had spent half the screen time developing Anew x Lyle in S2 that they blew on Louise x Saji in S1, this ep would've worked so much better.

I think part of the problem is they waited too long to introduce Anew to the other characters. They should have given Anew and Lyle more time to develop their relationship. 4 months (plus what? a few weeks?) is really not enough for something like that.
But yeah, that episode. First episode to make me cry...since Episode 23 in season one. And I still can't watch that ep and have dry eyes at the end of it.

I think this is strange. You love the Naruto animation style, which, in my opinion, is vastly inferior to Gundam 00's animation style in terms of the visual aesthetic. But to each his own, I guess.
I'd like to say that I find Ali-Alsarshes to be wonderfully entertaining and a great villian.
And it may just be the hair, but does he remind anyone else of Scar from the Lion King?

I managed to catch this when Season 2 aired the other night and I enjoyed it very much. Without having seen season 1 at all, I wasn't completely lost. I enjoyed this thing much more than what I saw of Code Geass.
