Of course He told them they were going to get the pennant.
Boy are they going to be surprised when they find out he was betting on the Cubs.*
*I have no idea who's playing the World Series. Feel free to edit.

Okay, I'm a Red Sox fan with my own annoying victory dance, but when I heard the Rockies getting all Fundy about the games, it made me REALLY want the Sox to win!
One of the more progressive thinkers in the Episcopal Church, John Shelby Spong, calls these prayers that folks make asking for things (like winning ballgames), "Adult Letters To Santa Claus". I've always thought that hit the proverbial nail on the head. Instead of "Dear Santa at the North Pole", it's "Dear God in Heaven"...

Thomas Disch wrote a piece a long time ago about God being Santa Claus for adults, and how learning/figuring out as kids that Santa isn't real but continuing to go along with the gag anyway is really training for being adults and learning/figuring out that Santa isn't real...
But I feel kind of bad for all those good-hearted Rockies fans in Colorado who only want to see good ball games and just wanted a winning hometown team and weren't making any claims on God at all... They deserved better...

President Bush started a war after being messaged from God. I'm sure something as fun and joyous as a baseball game attracts God's attention too. It's not like he only speaks to people in life or death situations... All work and no play makes God a vengeful lord.
