Has everyone forgot about Rip Hunter's chalk board from 52 and the "Son of Superman" written on it? Was anything to come of that? Is Chris Kent that "son"?

Any thoughts?

I think its a decent assumption that he is. Even if he's not biologically.

That's what I thought, since Geoff Johns was involved with writing both.

After the very disappointing movie, almost everybody is trying to forget about the son of Superman.

Is Johns ever comming back to that, or assuming that Chris Kent is that son, will Donner since he's the one that introduced Chris?

I think the "Son" on the board was actually a reference to Chris, since Clark and Lois have adopted him.

Actually, Johns and Donner introduced Chris together. Donner never worked on the book alone. They've both been working together, except on the current Legion story because that's just a story Geoff has been wanting to tell.

if Donner's ok with Chris being Clark & Lois's son then I'm ok with it. Donner is god :D

I don't know about Donnor being a god, but is it written in stone that Kal and Lois can not conceive a child? I would think that Earth-1 Supes and Lois would've had some kids but maybe it was biologically impossible. Has anyone ever adressed this?

If Donner is indeed God, then his involvement with The Omen just became much more interesting to me... ;) :p

He did "Scrooged". I think he should at least apply for godhood.

Yes, Larry Niven wrote about it in his classic essay, "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex." You can read it here:

There have been elsewheres with Supes' biological kids with Lois - haven't there been?

We know that KC Supes and WW have a kid - maybe he will show up?

The whole Johnathan Kent as the Phantom did not work in the Kingdom. The Son of KC Superman and KC Wonder Woman should've been a whole lot tougher.

Gah, I started reading this thread and said, "Please, can we get through this one without someone linking Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex." So much for that idea.

I must be in the minority on this one; I think what Richard Donner (and sadly, Johns) have done to continuity with Action Comics is deplorable. Rather than allow the writers of the Superman Returns sequel to write around that thrice-damned kid, they instead bring Chris Kent into continuity using Donner's favorite plot vehicle: Tada! Hey, boys and girls, it's the Phantom Zone Criminals! Again! What do you mean, Superman II was done already? OMG KNEEL BEFORE ZOD LOL

Comic book movies exist in their own continuities, and by their very definition have to be "dumbed down" for mainstream audiences. That's why as fans we chuckle at "in-jokes" - if the entire viewing audience knew all of comic continuity, there'd be no such thing as an in-joke. (Rent or buy Transformers for a good study in this). By taking the poorly conceived (no pun intended) Chris Kent and bringing him home to the comics, current and future Superman writers are stuck in a really tough place.

On top of that, I think Donner's characterization of Superman is just plain awful. Instead of Superman being guided by the mid-Western family values of the Kents' upbringing, he gets portrayed as a whiny orphan with daddy issues who runs crying to Jor-El for advice on everything. The fawning and adoration he oozes for Jor-El's touted "wisdom" is degrading to the character. Give me Birthright any day and leave Superman II on the DVD rack where it belongs.

There have; specifically, Generations and Generations 2. Lois and Clark dealt with super-fetus issues by exposing their first child to gold Kryptonite before birth (permanently removing his powers), and by Lois wearing a red Kryptonite pendant while pregnant with Kara (suppressing her powers until she was born).

It's been canon for awhile now that Kryptonians and Humans aren't compatable for breeding.

When Maxima was chasing Superman around trying to breed with him, one of her selling points to him was that she could do what no earth woman could and help him to continue the kryptonian race since their DNA is so similar.

Well, on Smallville - Clark and Lana just had supersex and caused a minor set of Earth tremors. But she lost her powers and maybe if they didn't use birth control - she will be killed by SuperFetus.

In the Last Superman story, Kal gave up his powers and had kids with Lois - the kids started to show powers. That's enough superkid that could zap into some universe.

So even during OYL when Superman was powerless he and Lois would not be able to conceive?
