More proof Marvel hates Mark Gruenwald.

Not because they are doing mean things to his characters. Just for reminding people that he created Brother Nature.

Not a big fan of Denham's art but I'm a sucker for anything Thunderbolts.

Yeah the concept of the character is awful, but wonderful things have been done to other f listers. Maybe some of that magic will show here.

With the monster that Ellis and Deodato have awoken,I don't think anybody else should be releasing anything with the Thunderbolts title at the moment.

I don't know, I've got enough confidence in Gage's work thus far to trust he can do a good job with them- his Deadshot mini showed he has the chops for writing characters of moral ambiguity pretty well.

As for Brother Nature- I kind of always liked the guy, and thought he had some interesting potential, if someone (even Gru) had ever decided to play with him a little bit more. Just the notion of a character who is seemingly in touch with Mother Earth seemed cool (though, come to think of it, Fabian's version of Plantman kind of covered that territory, as well. As did Humus Sapien, so I guess that role has been touched on subsequent to Gru's Brother Nature in Cap.)

Looking forward to this one, though I wish it was in addition to, rather than in lieu of, the regular title as well.

If there's anything Gage's shown over the last year or two, is that he knows how to play in other people's sandboxes. I'll bet this'll be as good as anything from Ellis' run.

I think the thing to keep in mind here is that while yes, this is the guy who can do the relatively harmless books like the Civil War tie-in and Quasar, he can also be the sick bastard who did Deadshot, Stormwatch PHD and who had the Hulk bend Colossus' arms in half. And then there's stuff like Union Jack, which was kinda sorta somewhere in between. The man has versatility.

And now, for me to be a jerk, it's just that his Quasar is somewhat muddled and vanilla compared to the rest of his output. But they can't all be winners.

I have a lot of respect for Christos and read his union jack mini in a trade and thought wow im surprised marvel let this thing off the ground with all the focus done on the middle eastern characters in it. Plus OMG what a fan orgasm it had the return of FAsaud from the F.F.

Brother Nature is the one man who can give the Hood a run for his villain-money.

I've got a Woodgod for you...IN MY PANTS!!!

Ahem. Now that that's out of the way, thanks for the kind words, and I hope you give this a shot! I had a lot of fun writing it and I really felt like editor Molly Lazer and Warren Ellis let me do a lot with the characters. And Brian Denham rocks.

Thanks,

Who can fault Hood for wanting a stay-prest pair of cotton dress slacks, double-pleat for double-pleasure.

Christos how about seeing Fasaud back with his more traditional look. I didn't even recognize the guy. What made you think to pick Fasaud to use in Union Jack?

Based on his use of Fasaud, Brother Nature, and certain other characters in his comics work so far (Jack Hammer? Not to mention the wacky villains in Deadshot), I'm guessing Mr. Gage has a love of obscure characters- and a memory to match. :)

He's using Bloodscream in the Iron Man annual, so i'd agree with that. I love it.

Bloodscream? Cool. Haven't seen that guy since Hama's Wolverine.

(Just checked the preview- looks like he's using Roughhouse, too. I always wondered- what with the revelation of Roughhouse being a half-frost giant- if Bloodscream/Bloodsport was originally intended to be a dark elf. It would fit with his pointy ears, pale skin, and Wolverine's sensing something familiar about their scents. Although, frankly, I love the Hama origin for Bloodscream.)
