I like Toad. I guess. He's pretty cool. I like him in the X-Men Legends videogame. He was easily one of the strongest characters. I havent read much with him in the comics though.

It's strange, I liked Toad more back when he was little more than the hopping guy who was built like a sack of potatoes. That tongue on the post-Pilates Toad is far too disturbing of an image. But no matter what Toad looks like he's still blessed with the terrific civilian name of Mortimer Toynbee.

Am I the only one who would like to see Toad on Excalibur, serving his country - perhaps against his own will?

I liked the skinny scheming and competent Toad from the early 90s.

That guy running around now with tongue- he ain't my Toad.

I think Toad from the first X-men movie was much cooler than the pathetic slobbering wimp that he used to be for so long.
i really wish we did see more of him and the original Brotherhood members more often.

I remember reading the Wolverine in a deathmatch tournament story where Toad entered himself post X-Men movie, and they amped him up even more than the movie did.

Oldschool Toad: Jump a lot with advanced agility and super-strong legs.
mid-1990s: Toad in an issue of Generation X had empathic powers with toads.
2000s (post movie): Toad can climb on walls a bit, has the lashing tongue, and can spit goo:
Wolverine issue: Toad can flat out stick to walls like Spidey, and like a bullfrog can blast down even the strongest people by quickly exhaling a large amount of air. (really, it happened).

I like the toad power-up, but there's a point where you have to cut him off. His last appearance I can remember was in "The 198". He saves the District X pink-haired pole-dancer, Lorelei, and takes her to the Xavier institute. Cyclops calls him Mortimer, and our favorite hopping lackey corrects him, "My name... is Toad." Yeah... I miss him.

In Civil War: X-Men he along with the rest of the 198 followed Domino to a bunker which General Lazar sealed, and planned to blow all the mutants up. Toad worked to figure out how to open the doors; and was shown standing alongside the X-Men after the inspirational "we all worked together" speech.

Lets no forget Avalanche who had more character development in the X-men cartoons than in the comics..
I still don't understand how his powers work incidentally.

You have possibly stumbled on the best thing about his personality. Poor Toad!!:(

Yeah, I like post-X-Men Forever Toad. Except that awful haircut they gave him during Morrison's run.

The Fury
10-26-2007, 08:28 AM
Ignoring the haircut, like Mattbib said above and the awful goggles he keeps wearing. (although he could make use of those). He is a great character.

Missused and abused by both writers and characters in the books. He's a electronics wizz but this is never mentioned. and he a more capable fighter then most the X-men.

His role in house of M was out of place mind you as he'd side with Magneto. The only time I have seen Toad in a recent good light was 198 book where he seemed to be a more wise backing character.

I like the Toad with his simple powers of jumping and superhuman agility. I don't like the upgrades; the tongue, the slime... (knocking someone down simply by exhaling? Ugh, please no...)

I don't think he should become an X-Man though. It happened to so many villains in the past already. X-Man just doesn't seem to suit him, imho.

Okay, first of all a massive thank you to NickThompson, I am just going to spent the rest of my day on eBay et al. looking for that comic.:D

I think Toad from the first X-men movie was much cooler than the pathetic slobbering wimp that he used to be for so long.
i really wish we did see more of him and the original Brotherhood members more often.
Hmm, I'm on the fence about the New Toad/Old Toad thing. I really got into comics from the films (shameful, I know) so I kind-of started liking Toad because of how he is in the film. However, after reading some of the sixties stuff, I just think that Toad is adorable! As for the nineties stuff, that was just lame. Psionic communication with amphibians? Please. Being able to blow massive gusts of wind from his lungs? Just, no. What the hell has that got to do with toads anyway?!
My solution to this conundrum? A lil' from column A, a lil' from column B.
Steampunked Toad! :D

It wasn't enough.

Considering the way Marvel treat that character, there is never an inappropriate moment to shout that.

I'm confused if you mean Marvel the company... or the whole Marvel Universe. Everybody hates on Morty. Except me, for some reason, that's probably just rooting for downtrodden.

I want at least a one-shot called "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride." Is that so wrong?

There was a mini series written about 5 years back, around the time of the X-men movie, where Mystique, Toad, Juggernaught, Iceman and Jean come together and explore parts of their past/present/future, and what they could become if they explored their powers.

On the last issue Toad gets inside some kind of genetic healing machine and corrects work that was done on him and upgrades his powers, and he slims down and gets muscle on him.

It was a good series (5 parts i think) and I'd recomend Toad fans to read it if you can find it.

That was when I became a Toad fan (and seeing the first X movie helped)

That was the exact game I would have made if I could! I loved it!:D Yeah, if you like that version of Toad you should probably check out the Ultimate X-men stories, that's what the character design was based on. Mystique should have been in the game more though.

I'm confused if you mean Marvel the company... or the whole Marvel Universe. Everybody hates on Morty. Except me, for some reason, that's probably just rooting for downtrodden.

I mean both. As for the 'Wild Ride' thing, it is wrong, but also oddly hilarious.:D

okay, someone's been watching the series waaaay too much. Nah, Toad was funny in that, but why did they make him American? I don't think it suits him.
