View Full Version : X-Crescence LXVII: Boots of Spanish Leather

Welcome to X-Crescence, which is from the word excrescence, which is defined as "An outgrowth or enlargement, especially an abnormal one, such as a wart."
Well, this is an outgrowth from the X-Boards proper.
This is where you pretty much can post whatever you want.
Civility rules apply here!
Enjoy.

These boots have counted off a many of band
Playin' one night roadhouse stands
For tips an' empty rooms
These boots have stood toe-to-toe
With the biggest, baddest Joes
Like they had some things to prove:
These boots
Yeah, these boots, more than once saved my ass
Like the time they had that grass
For those cops in Tupelo
An' these boots have danced with the devil
An' nearly lost that battle
An' to a wild Irish rose
I wore out more soles than I'd care to count
An' done more stupid things than most with them too
I've kicked myself more times than not
For the roads they led me down
But the damndest thing I've ever seen em do
Is walkin' out on you
These boots had to see California
And an Arizona mornin'
Where God paints the sky
An' these boots had to spur that beast in Cheyenne
Cause that bull'd make me a real man
I still drag that leg sometimesI wore out more soles than I'd care to count
An' done more stupid things than most with them too
I've kicked myself more times than not
For the roads they led me down
But the damndest thing I've ever seen em do
Is walkin' out on you
Now these boots are one step from the door
They walked out of years before
I can almost see her now
These boots outta kick that door aside
Stomp out my foolish pride
But they just turned an' ran
Damm these boots
Damn these boots
These boots

I hate when Amazing Race doesn't have an Alpha Male team.
It just makes the victories by the other teams less meaningful.

Most of the alpha male teams end up winning because the last couple of legs have challenges like "Run like a fratboy for 1000 miles" which suddenly takes away any chance Grandpa/Grandma team had of winning.
At the end I wouldn't have minded though since I've never really hated an Alpha male team. Most of the teams I hate are either F/F or M/F (like that couple where the girl had only one leg. That couple just needed to leave ASAP)

Yeah, but that's why it would be actually impressive if a F/F or a M/F team BEATS one of them.
Eliminating them from competing because they're too good sounds defeatist.

Civil War and World War Hulk affected multiple titles, not just those of one particular forum.
Messiah Complex is very X-Men-oriented, and thus already has a board to accommodate it.

Yeah, I've heard it. Victoria sings 4 lines starting at 1:50 in the song I believe. I don't mind really because the song is kinda bad. I don't hate it, but I'm not loving it either- its a bit boring really. I was hoping for a more upbeat "Spice Up Your Life"-type song.
As for her solo CD- I absolutely LOVE that you know of it. "Not Such An Innocent Girl" is SO good. All the songs are really. My other fave would be "No Trix No Games". I love that CD. I got it when I was in London last semester and its a personal prized possesion, not gonna lie. :o

We haven't had an X-cres poll in awhile:
1. If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be?
2. Has a comic book ever made you cry? If so, which issue?
3. Straight coffee or latte type drinks?
4. What is your favorite music genre?
5. Are you going to see 'Iron Man' opening day?
6. If you could do it all over again (or if you haven't done it yet) what would your college major be?
7. Emma Frost: Super-mega shitlick cunt face or Twat-sucking shit face?
8. Favorite DC book?
9. Favorite writer (non-comic)?
10. Best place to eat in the world?
Some people scare me with their character obsessions. It almost verges on fetishism.

lolz, I think he was talking about your fiancee.
Oh her...sadly she won't put on a Phoenix costume. I keep hoping maybe for Christmas...
*whimpers and slaps cheek*
sorrry...was talking about the fiancee...
Emily. Someone called her Emma once, I died a little inside.
1. If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be?
Islands. Caribbean. On the beach, in a hammock, a little radio and my fiancee.
2. Has a comic book ever made you cry? If so, which issue?
I came close in a couple I think. Ultimate X-Men #41 was the last on I think that almost did it.
3. Straight coffee or latte type drinks?
Neither
4. What is your favorite music genre?
Tough...I'm gonna go w/ classic rock though. Country is a close second.
5. Are you going to see 'Iron Man' opening day?
Does Tony Stark drink?
6. If you could do it all over again (or if you haven't done it yet) what would your college major be?
Fiancee...from the beginning. I've changed it 3 times, took me 5 years to graduate.
7. Emma Frost: Super-mega shitlick cunt face or Twat-sucking shit face?
Um...that's a tough one, I'm gonna go w/ shitlick cunt face since a twat sucking shit face would imply that she is pleasuring another woman and I want that plastic bitch to feel no pleasure.
8. Favorite DC book?
What's a DC?
9. Favorite writer (non-comic)?
John Grisham.
10. Best place to eat in the world?
Fogo D'Cha: Brazilian steak house...all you can eat, the finest steak I've ever eaten. I actually cried at the end of the meal. Mostly b/c of the check but b/c all that meat walking around on gaint swords was so beautiful.

Not really.

Interesting character that gets more hate then she deserves.
8. Favorite DC book?
Green Lantern Corps/ Green Lantern
9. Favorite writer (non-comic)?
Gabriel García Marquez
10. Best place to eat in the world?

You don't have to get shitty. It's relaxing sitting out there on a spring or fall night and drinking a beer and eating some ribs. Life is good when that is going on.

Yea... That does sound so relaxing and amzing right now. So relaxing it actually makes me want to cry lol all I want is a relaxing weekend that leaves me content. Except for the fact that if I just sat outside and drank a beer I would still get tipsy haha, but the right amount of tipsy can make you feel good w/out the stupidness and all of that...

I have found, in my few drinking experiences, that there is a time where you just feel relaxed and on the verge of being silly, but not quite doing things that are out of character yet, like just smiliing at everything and feeling comfortable/relaxed.

Umm a long list of things that I will try to sum up- my parents will be at our house in lake cumberland so if I go home (ohio) I either have to find a friend to stay with me at my house, spend the night at friend's houses (keeping in mind I only have 3 friends not away at school and they have their own lives), or sleeping on my sister's couch. None of these sound relaxing considering they either take planning and/or packing and/or not being in my own home.
I could go home with Pwood, which would be relaxing, but I don't want to intrude on his plans with friends and he is working on our one year anniversary gift.
I could stay at school, but that would equal bored and possibly upset, not relaxed. And, I would end up cleaning the whole place or just sitting around thinking I should clean.
I could go to the lake and meet up with my parents and just do my own thing the whole weekend, but I know they will want me to go out and do stuff with them and they are spending time with another couple there and I don't want to intrude... plus its a lake when its cold out... nothing to do if I get bored.
Tricky.....
Yea, I don't know much about drinking, but I do know what I talked about is a very thin line to walk and it usually doesnt last long before you either sober up or get more tipsy lol

I suggest this option. Cleaning wouldn't be the best use of your time (unless it helps you relax), but a weekend with nothing that needs to be done and just lying around in your room would probably be relaxing. Not sure what to do about the boredom, though.

Yea. It would definately be the best one if I was a different kind of person. I just know myself well enough to know that if being here all week has stressed me out b/c off everything that I have needed to do all week, that I need a change of scenary. And even if it didn't need cleaning in here, I also know that I would be relaxed probably all of Friday and come Saturday I would be bored and stir-crazy and not a happy girl lol

Is Victoria Beckham blonde (now, anyway)? And if so, has she had as much plastic surgery as Emma Frost at this point? I think so, I'd cast her to play her in a movie.
I hate the cow.
We haven't had an X-cres poll in awhile:
1. If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be?
Hmm. Good question. I'm going to most of the places I wanna go to soon but I really wanna be on a tiny island off Thailand with Bex right now - but I will be in 5 months so no biggie!
2. Has a comic book ever made you cry? If so, which issue?
Yes, Exiles 99 and not in a good way.
Planetary 26 kinda made me cry happy tears too but they were bittersweet as I thought it was the final issue.
3. Straight coffee or latte type drinks?
Straight.
4. What is your favorite music genre?
Alternative
5. Are you going to see 'Iron Man' opening day?
Nah I'm hoping to see it on the plane back from Thailand.
6. If you could do it all over again (or if you haven't done it yet) what would your college major be?
If I could do it all over again - linguistics
7. Emma Frost: Super-mega shitlick cunt face or Twat-sucking shit face?
Both?
8. Favorite DC book?
All Star Superman
9. Favorite writer (non-comic)?
Victor Hugo
10. Best place to eat in the world?
It's not the where it's the who for me. But, when I was in Dahab I found an amazing little beachside restaurant that did the best swordfish steaks I've ever had. That place was awesome.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0462499/
Watch the trailer.
It's teh awesome
You know, I was thinking about it today, and all these zombie variant covers are going to confuse the fuck out of the next generation of comic readers. 10, 15 years from now, when Marvel Zombies is mentioned in the same breath as 2099 and the New Universe, readers will look through back issue bins and buy an issue of Ultimate Spider-Man because he's a zombie on the cover and it looks super cool. And then they'll read the issue and be royally pissed because dude, what the fuck? No zombie!
-D
I thought the same thing a while back. Luckily I avoid variants
AFTERNOON X-CRES SURVEY - Bonus survey
1) What is the best costume you have ever worn?
Bam Bam Rubble
2) What is the best costume you have ever seen?
My flatmate went to a party last year as a Wheelie bin. Fucking funny.
3) Guess where my hand is right............now.
Down your crotch
4) Messiah Complex #1 comes out next week...excited?
I'm avoiding it and waiting for the trade.
5) Will you avoid spoilers for the crossover or are you too weak?
I hope so but someone'll spoil it for me in Cres no doubt.
6) What's on your broswer besides CBR?
My rugby club home page and my blog
7) Facebook or Myspace?
Facebook
8) If you had an Uncle Jack and he was stuck on the roof would you help your Uncle Jack off?
I always help my uncles jackoff I'm a caring type.
9) How do you keep from losing your temper? I only ask b/c I have issues.
I realise life's too fucking short. I was angry for 2 whole years and it fucked me up pretty badly. I look back at those times and realise how stupid it was.
10) What comic out this week do you most look forward to reading?
Er is New X-men out this week or is that next?
Bonus) If you buy First Class I'll send you a picture of my boobs.
I've got moobs of my own thanks.

1. If you could be anywhere right now, where would it be?
At home in bed. Sooooo tired.
2. Has a comic book ever made you cry? If so, which issue?
No, I'm hard to get to cryin'. Of course, I water up like a bitch during the whole ride of the Rohirrim leading up to the death of King Thedoen in LOTR.
3. Straight coffee or latte type drinks?
Neither. I gave up caffeine for the most part when I got my first kidney stone at 22. (It's male childbirth, yo. I'll do anything to avoid that experience.)
4. What is your favorite music genre?
The good music genre.
5. Are you going to see 'Iron Man' opening day?
Probably. I'm not taking the day off to see it the night before at midnight or anything, though.
6. If you could do it all over again (or if you haven't done it yet) what would your college major be?
If I thought I could turn it into a paying career? Literature. I had no confidence in any of my creative abilities when I got out of school, but knew I had a mind for science. (Although, the guy in charge of my department, whose name is on my degree was named H. Potter, which I found hilarious.)
7. Emma Frost:
Deserves a third option, doesn't she?
8. Favorite DC book?
Booster Gold. It's hilarious so far.
9. Favorite writer (non-comic)?
Stephen King, even though they haven't translated well to film.
10. Best place to eat in the world?
Wrigley Mansion restaurant in Phoenix.
AFTERNOON X-CRES SURVEY - Bonus survey
1) What is the best costume you have ever worn?
I went as a demon with huge metal framed wings one year draped in chains with red & yellow contacts. Got hit on (the ladies was supafreaks!), or run away from a lot.
2) What is the best costume you have ever seen?
A girl dressed up as the evil version of Lily from Legend, and nailed the costume with perfect accuracy.
3) Guess where my hand is right............now.
Wedged on your face while you try to dig out a nose goblin?
4) Messiah Complex #1 comes out next week...excited?
Two words... F*** yes.
Will you wait for spoilers, or find them online?
I hope so but someone'll spoil it for me in Cres no doubt.
I am on the internet, and here in particular too much to completely avoid ALL mentions of what could/will happen. Let's be realistic.
6) What's on your broswer besides CBR?
ESPN.com, msnbc.com, ytmnd.com, potterpuppetpals.com, and wrestlecrap.com
The last three, you have to see to believe. But they're worth a laugh.
7) Facebook or Myspace?Ugh. I don't like either. They exist to give pedos ways to stalk high school girls.
8) If you had an Uncle Jack and he was stuck on the roof would you help your Uncle Jack off?
Let him stay stuck on the roof until he dies of exposure. Leave his corpse as a Halloween decoration. Then, after that, dress him is Santa "sneaking into the chimney" as an Xmas decoration. Make the most of his dumb*ss being up there, I say.
9) How do you keep from losing your temper? I only ask b/c I have issues.
I make it a point to remind myself to not become my father.
10) What comic out this week do you most look forward to reading?
X-Men #204. It's a slow week, though, in terms of volume.
Bonus) If you buy First Class I'll send you a picture of my boobs.
I'm on the internet. If I absolutely needed to see boobs, I can find 'em.

Nah. Not that kind of government work. Quite the opposite. I work for Dept. of Veterans Affairs, in a hospital lab. You get tons of antecdotal stories about all the weird body fluids, tissue samples and the like. You get decent pay. You get plenty of job security. But it's still lousy sometimes, because it's a banal job where people literally give you sh*t. And blood. And urine. And the occasional amutated body part. Then they want their results, and they want them NOW!
Last night was busy, but at least kind of fun. I had a guy bleeding to death upstairs, and I was in the blood bank crossmatching units to give him. That was at least a moment where I felt like I made a difference, at least until the guy dies of the leukemia he's also got, of course. But I bought him some time with his family.

Yeah I'm nearly back to 100% but I've got some weird muscle damage in a pectoral which means I can't do my daily press-ups (unless I do them one handed and only use my left arm - which is a no-no). I've only got one more game to get through before the trip so I should be fine!
Congrats on the quitting smoking. Surround yourself with well-intentioned friends who are confident enough to give you an absolute ear-bashing if you start smoking and you'll be fine.

I usually just hit the back button when that happens. The text is still there. I don't know if that works in other browsers, though.
That's usually what I do too. But, this time, I made another post on the "Survivor: Marvel Two-In-One". When I hit the back button....nothing...
It's my own fault.

Good morning my peeps!!!! So work was so strange yesterday. First I almost stabbed my supervisor when he foolishly scared me while I was cutting cucumbers. Though the look on his face was priceless!! and another of our supervisors is freaking out one of my female coworkers because he is borderline sexually harassing her, and he has had this problem before. *sighes* So went another night wasted at work.
Plus, I affrimatively quit smoking (starting today).
*claps happily* Congrats Sketch!!! I'm proud of you!!!!

yeah, but it might take a while me thinks. I'm not sure. I'm not a jogger, I use machines that do not involve jogging to do my cardio.

Without wanting to sound like Tinman, there are a lot of variables!
Over time it will get easier but, your diet on the day, the weather and even just how you feel can make a huge difference on a day to day basis.

We don't have hooliganism in rugby. Do not confuse it with soccer.
Rugby games are fantastic social occasions. Standing shoulder to shoulder with the opposition fans united in drunkeness. I've never seen an issue!
But I'm a bit of a thug on field if someone starts punching/ stamping on my team mates.
