The following is based on an almost true story.
Recently, DH editor Scott Allie and Matt Parkinson paid a little visit to Lebanon, Tennessee to meet with Eric Powell.
The purpose for heading out to Eric's little slice of heaven was twofold...

Scott Allie's lucky he got out of there alive. Eric is a crazy person.
Also, I can't wait for Chinatown.

Okay, odd online marketing campaign there. I mean, who doesn't love the country yokel routine, ala' Deliverance style, right? Ugghh..
Anyway, thanks for the link and thank you Maija also for the meat of the matter- the 7-page preview.

That's no routine.
These images are cycling on the Dark Horse front page at the moment and they crack me up every time I see them.

....geez...and to think how many of us have been within 2 feet of that weirdo...several times even...
It's Blair Witch all over again! I trust Allie got out of there in one piece.
Really, really looking forward to Chinatown.

I'm glad that Eric Powell is revealing little about it. That's why the "interview" is so great.
Well, that and "Momma". :)

In the theme of Eric Powell, I didn't see the episode, but I was told he was one of the judges for the BEAUTY AND THE GEEK contestants at SDCC 2007. The episode was on last week.
(I think the guys had to design super-hero costumes for the girls?)
--------
This is an oldie, but I saw it again the other day. Powell and Scott-- and at about 3:15 in, you can see Powell sketch The Goon.
Alas, I have no idea if Lance was present... I didn't notice any men in nightgowns.

Bellygrub posted about it on the Goon board on the evening that it was broadcasting so I managed to catch it. The contestants themselves were painful to watch but it was a hoot to see the judges, including Eric and Dwight, reacting to the painfulness (and bouncing buxomness).
The team that won was actually rather clever: the one geek girl and her beauty boy partner capitalized on his "assets" by turning him into "MetroMan" an underwear model who gained his powers from a bottle of spray-on tan he found in the bathroom while at a party in the home of George Hamilton. He fights his enemies by deflecting their bullets and lasers with his shiny jewelry and dance moves.

Lance is never going to live that nightgown down... assuming he ever got out of there and out of the nightgown.
I had seen that video before but it's cool to see it again. Powell is a drawing madman.
I wish my town had a comic shop that was cool enough (and roomy enough) to host a dance party.

Holy crap, that is hilarious! It was pretty funny to see him do a hip thrust to deflect a laser (helpfully added in post) with his giant "M" belt buckle.
Dwight said on the board that what wasn't revealled on the show is that MetroMan's partner is "WingMan". :)

For those jonesing for spoilers (for shame) there are eight more pages posted on Myspace Comic Books (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=92159514&blogID=324102462).
For those who don't want spoilers, the blog begins with a spoiler-free preamble by Eric Powell and photos from his gallery show in Nashville and other Hallowe'en-related adventures. The Chinatown pages are at the end of the blog, so if you don't want to be spoiled, stop reading when you hit the Chinatown cover (which is what I did).

Yeah. I echo that wow.
It's really good. I like the Goon, he's just very different from whats going on in the world of comics at the moment. And i love the really random bad guys and characters in it. Frankie cracks me up.
Good stuff, really, really good stuff.

The Goon is one of those rare books, like Hellboy and Bone, that everytime I read it, I'm thinking, Man I wish I came up with this...
'Chinatown' was a pretty darn good yarn. I loved the more serious tone of the story and I hope Powell continues to give us more like it. I like The Goon when it has more of a twisted dark humor energy to it instead of all-out goofiness.
But hey-that's just me...
