Yes you read that right. Years ago, back in 1991, the now dead wrestling company WCW had the bright idea to have a wrestling gimmick based on the one and only Spider-Man and gave it to wrestler Brad Armstrong (who is a fairly good wrestler by the way).

He was called Arachnaman and he was from WebCity and had super agility and he shoot spiderwebs out of his hands. And his costume was a cheap verison of Spider-Man's with yellow instead of red.

Needless to say it didn't really catch on.

But, the real funny thing is that it was so much like Spider-Man that Marvel Coimcs threaten to sue WCW if Arachnaman wasn't dropped. And what's even funnier is that WCW was a part of the same conglomerate as DC Comics.

Can't make this stuff up folks.

I never knew that. That's cool. Do you have any links?

And now we know the basis for the Arachnoman variant of the first Ultimate Spider-Man Hollywood issue.

Well, maybe a little. Turner didn't get bought out by Time Warner until 1996. So it was a good couple of years before DC and WCW were owned by the same people.

But then, Marvel owned Hulk Hogan and Hulkamania until a few years ago. There was a time when Vince was billing Hogan as "Incredible Hulk Hogan." Marvel sued. Every time Hogan appeared, they had to pay Marvel money.

Oh ok I know it was somewhere in the 90s but, I thought it was earlier then 96 for some reason. Oh well thanks.

And yeah as for the Hulk Hogan thing I remember reading about because of the Marvel thing that was why WCW and WWE liked having him as Hollywood Hogan so they wouldn't have to keep paying Marvel. So something like that.

This is a fantastic idea. Children will really enjoy this new incarnation of spider ma. It will give a touch of reality to personality of spider man.
