Sergio Aragones & Mark Evanier writing and Mike Ploog on the art!!!!
Here's the solicit:
THE SPIRIT #14
Written by Sergio Aragones & Mark Evanier
Art by Mike Ploog
Cover by Jordi Bernet
Join the new SPIRIT creative team of writers Sergio Aragones & Mark Evanier (Groo the Wanderer) and Mike Ploog (Abadazad) for a case of murder! A string of killings is plaguing Central City…and the Spirit — with Commissioner Dolan — is on the case!
And the cover:

Having Ploog on the interior is about as good as it gets. :) And then to have a Jordi Bernet cover as well...?? Losing Darwyn Cooke after #12 was depressing, but DC stepped up and got the right people for this title. Hot damn! I'm happy.
Oh! And let's not forget that Gail is contributing to #13. ;)

I love this. while I wish the Dave SIm rumor from a while back was true this is easily the next best thing to that. I'll give a little woo! for it.

Whoa, whoa... wha'? What rumor about Dave Sim? He was rumored to be writing The Spirit? Holy fuck, I could only imagine how horrible that would've been.
As it stands though, this is the best fucking new out of DC in a long ass time. Sergio Aragonés? Mark Evanier? Mike Ploog? They couldn't have done any better if they'd kept Cooke, Bone, and Stewart around, or if they'd dug up and reanimated Will Eisner himself. This is gonna be fucking awesome!

Hey, didn't Ploog assist Eisner at one point??

That's what one of the interviews said, but I was unaware of that until I heard about it the other day.

I'm shamefully ignorant of most of the folks involved here...Although a quick scoot around Google reassures me enough to stick around after Cooke leaves.

sorry my brain broke a little bit. It wasn't Dave Sim. I don't know how I confused him with Jeff Smith. right when they announced that cooke wasn't doing anymore spirit there as a rumor that jeff smith was taking over.....that rumor gave me a bone.....I thought that would be the perfect replacement. although maybe it will come true and he will do an issue now and again because for that.....I would buy a DC book again

Two years.
His style is nicely reminiscent of Eisner. The perfect mix of atmosphere and cartoon.

Was it a Phoney Bone?
Oh! Yeah, I heard that rumor as well. And it would've been neat just to see Smith getting more work at DC, but I don't know how well he'd have tackled the material, or how often the book would've come out if he were scripting and drawing, or even just drawing.

I'm sold. Surprised that Sergio's not doing the pencils himself though.
