These are links to a review and the website of artist/writer Shaun Tan's graphic novel "Arrival". I read the book today. It's told entirely without words and is the most wonderful thing I've read this year and ranks near the top in my estimation of the best graphic novels ever. Please give it a look. The books looks simple, at some level it is. But careful and patient examination of the reveals a complexity of plot and characterization that is profound and beautiful. I'm nearly at a loss for words, and in fact am doubtful I could say anything that would do justice to this book. Maybe after re-reading and a bit more contemplation. An exquisite gem.

Small world. I went to this art bookstore today, and stumbled upon a copy of Memorial that was marked down from $23 to $7.

Quite a piece of work; the images on the website don't do it justice, in my opinion.

I picked up Arrival this weekend and both Gus and I were blown away. So so pretty. Solid emotional impact too.

Just got it. This is beautiful. Every piece of the book, down to its construction tells the story. No bookshelf for this one; it belongs on the coffee table.
