I've always enjoyed Starlin's marvel and indy work. I thought Wyrd the Reluctant Warrior was very funny, Dreadstar one of the best comics of the 80s, even liked the last Thanatos series.

But how is Mystery in Space (now in TPB)? I don't remember any reviews or comments one way or the other.

The art is really good at first but the artist is replaced before the mini concludes.

I thought it rocked. I would like to see him do more with Comit.

It was a decent, confined space story. And finally being able to see The Weird again was awesome. I think it suffered a little during its release because it was telling its story around 52 while the weekly was still coming out, so we don't get to find out what happened to Captain Comet until a couple issues in, and then it's all shoved in your face confusingly in a couple pages. Ignoring that, though, it's an action-packed story about the politics of Hardcore Station.

I was glad that DC gave Starlin the opportunity to tell another Adam Warlock story.

(Snarky as that sounds, I actually did like it)

I've always liked Jim Starlin, too, I think he's written some awesome stuff. Mystery in Space started off great, but when Shane Davis left after issue #4 or whatever, and the art started rotating through Davis, Starlin, and Ron Lim, it became difficult to read for me because of the inconsistencies. Still, the story was solid and if you like Captain Comet and The Weird, you'll definitely love this one. I'd give it a 6 out of 10, but I know I wasn't as crazy about it as most people were.

I'm still waiting for a Mystery in Space series starring JUST Adam Strange (and not 52-related)...

I really enjoyed this series. It's a good action/mystery story. Well worth reading.

I thought it was a good miniseries. I loved the first issue of it & that got me excited for the rest.

It was a shame that Shane Davis didn't get to complete the series, but Ron Lim was a more than capable fill-in. Starlin, not so much.

I think the reason this series turned people off was because of the price. It was $3.99, and IMO that's a no-no for such a marginal character.

I don't think it was a wise decision to add the backup, even though it did provide for a decent subplot for the main story.

If there wasn't a backup, making this title $2.99, then I think it would've fared better.

I absolutely agree. I reluctantly bought each issue despite the $3.99 cover. I would've liked $2.99 with just Comet a lot better.

I thought Lim's work looked enough like Davis's that it wasn't really an issue. But the one issue by Starlin was disruptive - it looked fine, but not at all like the others.
