Lengthy interview with Gary Gianni. Amongst a plethora of other things, he discusses the possibility of more MonsterMen stories within some of Mike Mignola's books.
Wooohoooo! :D

Were the old MonsterMen backup stories ever collected together?

Gary Gianni published a collection containing a complete story-arc as "Corpus Monstrum Vol.1" (Hieronymus Press) some years ago.
I really hope there will be more Corpus Monstrum stories comig out soon.

And I thought I was the only MonsterMen fan on the internet, hah.
Why is there such a lack of appreciation for Gianni? The dude needs more recognition, and hopefully that new book he's illustrating might help. Unfortunately, I've never had the chance to read the MM story "Autopsy In B Flat", which backed up "Almost Colossus". Anyone here read it?
Also, that Corpus Monstrum collection is simply to die for.

I asked him about MM at SDCC and he replied that there were definitely some stories left, but he didn't know when they'd come. Now it looks like it might be sooner than later. woohoo!

I remember reading an interview with him saying he was trying to work out something with Mike to get MM back into the pages of Hellboy. But he said the scheduling has been difficult.
EDIT: I'm a dunce, didn't actually realize the article Jank posted was the one I had read. duh.

Thanks, Jankenstein, for that link. I, too, bug Gary Gianni about that every year in San Diego, asking, "When are we going to see more MonsterMen?" I'm really glad it might finally happen! I'm a huge fan of Gianni and his creation. In fact, it was what got me into Hellboy. Having loved Gianni's work on The Shadow and Indiana Jones, I bought Wake the Devil for his back-ups, then happily discovered another character I loved.
Remember when Dark Horse first pushed their new horror line several years ago? MonsterMen was a big part of it, pictured along with Hellboy and others on that Ben Templesmith poster they gave out in San Diego. Supposedly the plans were to at least do a collection of the existing stories. I don't think Gianni was happy with the format, preferring a larger black and white version like the jaw-droppingly beautiful edition he put out through Heironymous. I still hope a DH collection materializes eventually, since it doesn't look like GG himself has the time to put out more right now.

Hopefully we'll all get lucky, and Flesk Publications (http://www.fleskpublications) will also reissue Corpus Monstrum along with the 20,000 Leagues reissue they have on slate for 2008. John Flesk is a very nice fellow, and really knows how to produce nice looking tomes.
