Dude. All you need to know, Frank gets a synthetic symbiote, rips off a bug's arm and cuts off his own head with it. Yes, a pseudo-Venomized Frank practices neurosurgery on a bug with its own arm.

Man, I was really hoping to see Frank and Hulk meet up. Not necessarily fight (although that would have been cool, especially with the synthetic symbiote suit), but maybe have Frank sympathize with Hulk's cause to a certain extent.
Not saying the issue was particularly bad, but it was about as pointless as Ghost Rider's WWH appearance.

I wasn't very impressed. It didn't seem like Fraction bothered to read Planet Hulk. His portrayal of Sakaarian Native culture seemed way off . . . which is a shame because it was so well-developed in Planet Hulk.

What is so off about it? Mung appeared in other books as a blood thirtsy beast. Miek even had to fight Mung. Hell, I even think Mung killed some of their own kind. Not all bugs sing kumbaya and want to hold hands. The Zombie cover was awesome. Psuedovenom armor not so awesome. Mung did appear I think in the Hulk book itself so I wouldn't say completely pointless. GR was completely pointless.

Basically the stuff about supreme nine-headed death deities, carnage gods, and blood-goddesses of debasement. It's all very creative and would work well for another alien species, but it doesn't quite fit with everything that Pak established about Native culture and society in Planet Hulk. Sure, Mung was depicted as being violent and bloodthirsty in an earlier Hulk issue, but all of the stuff about being a holy warrior and worshipping these death gods doesn't seem to jibe with the established fact that all sentient lifeforms on Sakaar basically worshipped the Prophet and adhered to the Worldbreaker/Sakaarson dichotomy in one form or another.
Of course, Mung could be a member of some sort of obscure Native death cult that can be expanded upon in future stories (which could be cool) . . . but I think this was more of a case of the writer not reading Planet Hulk.

Mung, the inconcievable (he can't have kids?), begins a rampage of his own throught the sreets of New York.Bugs scour the back alleys to slaughter anything that moves. Frank Castle Moves, so they hunt him
Frank has come to NY to help. In this 48 page story, Olivetti and Fraction show how a bunch of rogue aliens ran-in with the hard shell, skull chested earthling, with the chain saws.
Frank was the only hero to help the weak in NY. Daredevil, Moon Knight, did little rescues, but they didn't do what Frank did. DD stayed in Hells Kitchen, and Moon Knight only aided the humans against other humans. Every other hero had other things to do. Frank came back to help the 'rats' get out of NY, and was the hero that took care of the poor.
But wait. What's that suit that looks like Venom, and has a skull on it's chest? Oh look! It's the Punisher, with a new Cap uniform, compliments of Gadget and his arsenal of high tech weapons.
Comes Mung, and his hoard of marauders. Comes Alien symbiote Punisher. First, Punisher tears Mungs sword arm off. Then Frank uses the arm to move the sword to cut Mungs skull cap off, and that was the last time the alien hoard roamed the streets of NY.
Fraction did a nice characterisation of Frank, showing him holding the little girl Frank rescued, being a very touching scene. Fitted very well with Frontline and Heroes for Hire issues of the same week, where bugs are taking the streets, and killing females in inhumane ways, and riotors on the streets.

Fraction doesn't frontload the event and recap all the events of WWH.He runs his own story focusing on his main character.
What a tie in should be like.

Not if it makes no sence at all. why have a tie in?

Is this the first appearance of the synthetic symbiote suit? Cause that alone is worth buying the comic, not to mention Frank's application of it.

Yes. And probably last. I'm just guessing. But Mung beat the tar out of it, and that was set up as what would kill it.

Not bad, but I'm looking forward to Olivetti on Cable more than this book. Hopefully they can get Fraction to write that one as well.

Any story that has Frank Castle tearing off a bug alien's arm and cutting of said alien's head with it gets an instant thumbs up form me!!!!

Made perfect sense.Frank gets down and dirty when helping people. He doesn't talk about it,he just does it.If he has to cut people's heads off with chainsaws,or shoot pedophiles in the face,so be it.

The story was good, I like Fraction and what he's doing in this book, but is anyone else getting tired of Olevetti's CGI and photo backgrounds? I can take his shiny muscley characters, but the backgrounds are bugging the hell out of me.

Good issue, but I'm kinda sick of these "major events" where every other title has to have a tie-in. I would much rather see Castle taking on Jigsaw or the Hood's super villain army. Wasn't the point of War Journal to make the Punisher fight and kill lame super-villains? Instead we get the lame-ass Hate Monger and this tie-in. It wasn't terrible but at a $3.99 cover price I wouldn't recommend picking it up

I really try to like that book.
First of all, I really really like Fraction's work. I liked the CW tie ins, and issue #4, even though no one died. But the hate monger story seemed like it was 7 or 8 issues, but it was 6. issue #11 was nice, and now this. It wasn't bad, but it's nothing special. And it's expensive too. I hope that this book will be good, after all those tie ins. And issue by issue I discovered that I don't like Oliveti. I mean, it's not only the huge muscles, it's also those photographic backgrounds, and I think his viewpoint. I mean, he designed the "Punish America" costume, right?
