Just in case you have not been following the Comic Book Idol 3 blog (http://cbi.comicbookresources.com) (and if you haven't, shame on you!), I've had two quick Q & A's with two of the three judges for this year's contest, James Lucas Jones and Chris Ryall, and I made sure to ask both of them about you folks, and they BOTH said they'd be checking out the play at home thread.

So take this seriously, folks! You have TWO Editors-in-Chief checking the thread out.

Woo Hoo!!!

I'm trying to write (man, that's the hard part) and draw/paint an 8 page story before the contest starts so I can do some play at home efforts as I totalyl F'd up entering the actual contest.

You are SUCH a tease. Like I need more pressure and motivation to do the play at home thread.

Ok, ok... I do need more pressure and motivation... now I just need more time... Anyone figure out how to stretch time yet? Anyone... Bueller... Hiro... ;)

I know one the editor judges really liked at least one person that didn't make it to the finals.

I'm really looking forward to this. My first week might be a little late as I'll be away from the drawing board all weekend.

I am really going to try my best to play it as though it were the real thing (deadlines and all)! This is the ultimate test to find out whether you are cut out to hack it in this field or not.

Just out of curiosity, just how different are the rules for the Play At Home version than that of the main game?

There are no rules since it is an informal showcase of people doing the assignments. You can try to meet the official deadlines if you want or just post them whenever.

The Play at Home CBI is not a contest. There are no prizes or voting.

Well expect the standard forum rules of being civil and posting on-topic.

yeah, i think eventhough its clearly an informal way of showcasing talent, we oughta be a bit more serious bout it if we really want to prove how much we're really deadset on breaking into the biz. and for one, laziness is a big turnoff not only with publishers, but most importantly, with readers. add the fact that this is definitely a big training ground to master skill and speed.

so just because it's not the ACTUAL cbi comp, doesn't mean we got to treat it lightly. as J and Brandon have stated, 3 editors have already confirmed to watch the Play At Home thread with eagle eye sharpness:)

goodluck to all, its gonna be a blast working with you guys again! can't wait for it to begin in a few hours:)

"It takes a whole different level of self-discipline to do the “Play at Home” version of the Idol experience"
I think that summed it up quite nicely.

Just a quick thought.

I really think "play at home" should be moved into the CBI Forum area for ease of viewing. You're going to get alot of new viewers swinging by to check out the contest and its a bit difficult to navigate away from the cbi forum into the a&w showcase forum. Plus, it looks like there will be dialog and art all crammed into that one thread. It would be nice to have links to the art..or the art itself in one thread. Then crits in the other. To me,these changes would make the play at home thread more signicant and easier to navigate. But then again who the hell asked me anyways. Just a thought.

Best,
nick

It has been discussed but the organizers think it may distract from the finalists' pieces and discussion. The Play at Home is an informal showcase of people showing their skills.

As for two threads, it is up to the mods of the A&W. We had one thread the past two CBI's and they seems to work fine.

I think these are supposed to go in the Artist and Writer's section... there's a thread there established for Play-at-homers...

All Play at Home CBI art should be posted in the thread on the Artist and Writer Showcase Forum (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=193773).
