Obviously, Billy Batson must grow up some day, just as did Robin and Speedy. When he finally does mature, do you think he'll look just like his alter ego, or will he just be an average dude? I'd like to think that Captain Marvel is a grown up version of Billy with superpowers, but I can't say for sure. That would open up a lot of possibilities for new Cap stories, especially of the romantic kind. I think it would be cool to see Billy in situations he's never really been exposed to before, and to watch him become a man. They'd have to keep his innocent nature of course, but that's possible. Anyone with his wisdom and courage could certainly handle whatever life threw his way, so I'd say it's doable.

They touched on this in Kingdom Come where Billy was Lex Luthor's butler. He looked identical to Captain Marvel (in a tux).

When Batman cracked him in the mouth and stepped on his throat, I believe it was Green Arrow who made a quip; "All this time, we've been in mortal fear of BILLY BATSON?"

It's a good read, and probably has the best Superman VS Captain Marvel fight ever, but it's close enough to your idea. Kinda sorta.

If anyone remembers from Power of Shazam, Captain Marvel is an exact double of Billy's dead father. Chances are, if he ever did grow up, he'd look alot like Cap the way he did in Kingdom Come.

So if he grew older, say into his 60's and yelled SHAZAM!, would he revert back to a young Cap?

That'd be a fun concpet to explore in comic books, but they've all but ruined Captain Marvel in the main DC Universe. Trials of Shazam is hands-down the worst Marvel Family related comic book. Ever.

Still, I hope we get more stuff like Jeff Smith's Monster Society of Evil once in a while. It seems they're starting up a series aimed at kids called Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam.

You can check out the creators blog here:

I'm sure it's going to play it fast and loose with the classic Marvel Family continuity, but I'm fairly certain it'll be better than Trials.

I hated the Kingdom Come stuff. Way to crap all over my favorite characters, and mix in religion, and have a high body count. "Brilliant." Not. I know I'm in the minority.

Anyway I wish the Marvel Family were all adults so they could tell some real stories, and yet not cheapen them. I dunno.

Second :) Though I'd hope if Billy is ever matured, they take a page from Miracleman and have him be a slouching, unshaven version of his ideal alter ego.

Your two statements seem to contradict each other.

This sounds akin to "I wish Spider-Man didn't have any problems so they could tell stories, yet not change him." or "I wish Batman's parents were alive and he had super powers, so he could be in good Batman stories that stay true to the concept."

IMHO, I like the "Cap. Marvel" looks like Billy's dad routine. I mean, if he was shaped into his minds version of an adult hero, that's a pretty good model.

I disagree with this statement.

Going by Kingdom Come, I'd say that once Billy Batson does grow up, he will look alot like ol Cap Marvel.

Hope Billy does grow up to look like Captain Marvel. Would be good to see what other stories they could bring in if he were to mature a little.

I disagree with this statement.

And I understand why. You think I mean that he'd have to grow up in the comics. While I think it would be cool if he did, he probably never will. What I mean is that he'd have to grow up in the real world, so what would he look like if he did?

Uh, I just thought of something. Now that Cap is now just Marvel (cool name I think, score 1 for DC!), Billy is hardly ever going to become a kid again with his new power and responsibilities. Yet Mary is growing up and becoming my favorite dark go-go girl of all time and Freddy is earning his stripes (he SHOULD be called Captain Marvel DAMN IT, not Shazam and still keep his blue uniform ala' Titan's Tomorrow).

On a sidenote, does anyone know if DC Direct will put out a White Marvel figure along with the rest of the new Shazam figures? I'd scoop one of those bad boys up if they are.

When did this happen?

When did this happen?

Early in Cowntdown. Don't worry, it was in Countdown so it probably won't be important until Final Crisis.

I love Dark Mary Marvel, what with the black latexy cheerleader out fit...
