Yes. They had a much more sci-fi take on the character than anyone since the silver age. "Emergency Stop," in particular, is very good. "The Human Race" seems to be a love it or hate it story. "The Black Flash" is interesting conceptually, but there were a couple of things that didn't really seem to fit with the way characters had been established. (Also, I'm not a big fan of Pop Mhan's work on the book, which includes that storyline.)
The one-shot starring Jay Garrick is pure gold.

It was just an issue of the series (134), but the title of it was "Still Life In the Fast Lane". And it was, indeed, fantastic.

If that was the Jay/Joan honeymoon issue, then, yes, it was outstanding. If it isn't, then it was probably still great. It was Morrison and Millar.

The art on most of these issues, though, was atrocious. I think Paul Ryan did a few issues but then Pop Mhan, who was still in the "God make my eyes implode in on themselves so I'm spared the horror that is this art!" stage of his career (he's gotten much better), took over and lasted until Waid took the book back over.

It's a different one. The honeymoon issue (also excellent) was #161. Issue #134 focuses on Jay in the present day as he fills in for Wally, who has a broken leg (actually 2) from the previous story. All through the issue, as he takes care of various villains, makes public appearances, and drops in on friends, he's trying to find a way to save the Thinker, who's dying of brain cancer.

That is a fantastic issue. One thing though...
I was never quite sure whether he managed to save The Thinker or if in he'd just brought him back for a few minutes. I think it was the latter, but I'm not 100% sure.

The way I read it was...
Jay saved him, but the Thinker decided he'd rather let himself die.
Considering subsequent events, it's possible that...
The Thinker may have known at the time that he could transfer his consciousness into the thinking cap.

I'm biased, but I thought The Black Flash was fantastic. THAT could easily be made into a movie! :)
