Has anyone else watched the season premiere? It's on Yahoo TV, the full episode.

It has some nice moments and some headscratchers.

Nice moments:

Eric with Julie in the car outside the club, the new coach kicking Buddy out of practice, the phone call in the bathroom to get advice on putting your arm around a girl, the beer bottle making a hard 'clunk' instead of shattering on the guy's head

Headscratchers:

Going into teen horror movie land after killing the stalker in self defense. Geez, it's obvious what you do--go into the store and call 911. The baby is born three months premature and it's normal-sized and healthy enough to go home the next day.

Jason Katims is apparently splitting his time between this and The Bionic Woman, now. Looks like NBC is hedging their bets.

3 weeks not 3 months.

3 weeks not 3 months.

Ah. That makes much more sense.

WWRD.....heh!

Made me laugh my ass off. I only watched 10 minutes (the video is choppy for me) but that and Saracen stuttering in front of Eric made me smile.

I'm all for WWRD t-shirts. Anyone else? Limited edition CBR line through Cafe Press perhaps? ;)

Finished the premiere.

Twice.

No spoilers yet, but it's just such a perfect show.

On a comic related note, it's my pipe dream to have Peter Berg snatch Preacher from the jaws of Mark Steven Johnson. Cast Scott Porter as Jesse and Adrienne Palicki as Tulip, and Kyle Chandler as John Custer. They're already set up to film in Texas...

Also, both Chandler and Minka Kelly appear in Berg's The Kingdom coming out this Friday. You can see Chandler in some of the trailers.

My Season Two Premiere thoughts.

Eric and Tami - Man you just know that college job is taking a toll on them when he doesn't even get the two weeks he had coming to stay home with her and baby Grace. Connie Britton's look of absolute devastation (possible post partum?) was magnificently portrayed with just the facial expression and little to any dialogue.

Julie - I get how she feels like she's turning into her mother and Matt is turning into her father, but honestly, she could deal with it in a better way. It's not like her parents are bad examples, turning into them might seem horrible as a 16 year old, but realistically it's not a bad thing.

Matt - Poor guy. Losing his "C", losing his girl to a greaseball named The Swede.

Riggins - Did someone goof in the continuity? He's getting yelled at by the coach, takes his helmet off and walks off the field saying he quits. Next he's running stairs? Did I miss a scene in between? I also love how he gave Lila a passive aggressive verbal smackdown with her holier than thou attitude.

Buddy - Gets kicked out of practice despite being the major financial support of the program. Is out of the house and his wife is dating a health nut who's now driving his car. Oh, and his kids appear to hate him. And what's up with the wife telling him to stay away from soccer practice. I mean they aren't divorced yet so it's not like she has any business telling him where he can and cannot be. I know he's a cheating dirtbag, but since they aren't divorced and the wife has Mr. Health Nut around, so is she.

The new coach - Obviously an ass. I can understand him throwing Buddy out, even if I don't think it's a good idea to bite the source of a lot of money. Screaming at Riggins and then running him til he pukes seems strong, but nothing surprising for Texas high school football. However, when Jason Street tells him that leaning on Riggins the way he is will not make him respond, he basically humiliates Street by telling him he can be a cripple symbol of the program or a coach. Street was being a coach, he used his inside information as a friend of the kids to tell the coach that his approach with Riggins wouldn't work. That's not saying to the coach "Stop picking on my friends", it was telling him something that needed to be heard. I coach, and I have assistant coaches who I listen to when they have something to say. If you don't, sooner rather than later, you just may not have any assistants.

Tyra and Landry - Man, this is a storyline that is going to cause problems. I love the idea of pairing the geek and the girl from the wrong side of the tracks in what I assume will be a secret relationship. Their friendly relationship has to be weirding people out, but honestly they seem pretty easygoing with each other and Tyra could definitely use someone like that. Yeah she doesn't know Landry loves her, but he's been nothing but a friend to her when she needed one the most. Landry trying to make the football to attract Tyra and please his dad, well who hasn't done something similar in their lives? The whole stalker storyline and subsequent whacking of said stalker is definitely going to come across as something out of place in the FNL universe. It was well done thematically, but I have to wonder why neither of them kept their heads about them instead of just calling the cops. I know Texas has a reputation of executing people for farting off key, but the guy had previously attacked Tyra, there's a police report for cryin' out loud! Now he's stalking her, attacking her, attacking Landry and threatening to come back at Tyra at a later time. It's self defense in my mind.

Lila - Well if the writers are looking for fans of the show to hate her, they did a marvelous job last night. She cheats on her boyfriend and then gets all offended when he cheats on her, breaks up with him, cuts her father out of her life, quits cheerleading and then decided to come to jesus. And as is the case in my admittedly limited experience with newly religious people, comes off as an insufferable and imperious little bitch. Smarting off to Riggins as if she's any better than he is, at least he doesn't make rationalizations for his behavior. Then doing the dinner table prayer and insulting both her mother and the boyfriend. If I was the mother, a smack across the chops would've been in the offing. I hate to break it to Lila and real life people like her, just because you get dunked in water, it doesn't really wipe out the things you have done in the past. No matter how much you regret it. And walking around asking people if they've been reborn etc? Hey Lila, as Dennis Miller would say, "pardon me for getting it right the first time."

By the way, in case it doesn't come across, I loved the premiere save my worries over the Tyra-Landry trouble (rooting for the relationship though). I can't wait to see where the show is going next. The previews for next week looked pretty good.
