Hey, I have just recently gotten into the DC Universe. I'm really enjoying all the new characters to read about and the events happening, anyway. Is JSA any good. I Know Geoff Johns writes it, and I like him, but is the book good. I like JLA, so is there any connection? Thanks.

Well, it crossed over with Justice League for a few months for the "Lightning Saga" storyline. If you were just reading that at the time, the other half of the story is in Justice Society. Standalone, the book's very character-driven and continuity-heavy, but accessible. Johns likes to dig into continuity whenever he can, but when he dredges it up, he usually does a decent job of introducing it to new readers, too. You should check out the last three issues. They've all been single stories focusing on a couple characters each issue.

Issue #1 was excellent, and the next three issues were pretty good. The Lightning Saga was serious mess, and should be avoided. The latest issue is pretty good and looks like it's leading into something very good. But issues #7 and 8 were just okay, in my opinion. They both focused on characters that don't especially interest me, but that's not a big problem given that there are so many good characters on this team. I know that Johns will get around to focusing on each of them sooner or later.

I'd recommend picking up the previous series in trades more, actually. Before the relaunch. That series was stellar.

The art is generally good. It is filled with enough characters that you are almost bound to like somebody. It's at its best when it has a big story to tell with lots of people having a part to play. It looks like after a series of one character focus issues that we are about to go into just such a storyline. It looks like a good time to get on board.

If you've ever read Kingdom Come, you might like the current JSA arc. It re-introduces Kingdom Come Superman, but into the mainstream DCU (aka "New Earth", versus whatever alternate Earth KC Supes comes from).

Total agreement here. Everything from the previous series through the Princes of Darkness trade was awesome. Kind of lost a step after that, imo, but the series remained steady until the final arc.

Current series started well with its first arc (featuring an excellent first issue), but then its momentum was been derailed by the Lightning Saga crossover. The one-and-done issues have been pretty good, but the current series has yet to hit its stride, which it probably will with this next arc. This is different than the previous JSA series, which just hit the ground running with a lot of strong arcs coming one after another with an occasional one-and-done.

Well the JSA is pretty much the JLA made up of the less than cool characters and the old foggies.

IMO, JSA is the best team book on the market, and the best mainstream DCU title. Johns is producing some strong character driven stories. He's not afraid to use continuity to his advantage while still making the book accessible.

Dale Eaglesham is one of DC's underrated artists. His storytelling is excellent. Each of his characters is distinct, with their own body and face shapes, body language and nuances.

i think it's one of the best DC books at the moment. At least in my opinion. SO everyone should give it a try when he likes this kind of stories

This current series, as the previous incarnation once was, is definitely worth a spot on your pull list. It has great characterization, plenty of action, and full of surprises and fun for the comic book fan. The long history of the team and characters only adds to the quality of this book, which Geoff Johns makes excellent use of.
In short: yes!

Hey, thanks for all the opinions guys. Considering I just recieved the Kingdom Come trade, and the next JSA arc deals with that story, I'm going to give the title a try. Hope it's awesome.

If you're interested in Kingdom Come I would recommend picking up JSA #9 which came out a few weeks ago. Issue #9 is the prequel and/or beginning to the KC Superman being introduced, and the significant change in the pacing and direction of the book. Now is the best time to get on board with this series, and you will most definately enjoy it.

Another yes vote here!!

I enjoy it immensely and the JSA knocks JLA into a cocked hat...

As far as I am concerned JSA is THE premier DC superteam these days!
