Anyone going or been to any shows?

I saw them last Friday and IMO Alice In Chains smoked Velvet Revolver.

AIC new singer William Duvall did a damn good job plus Jerry and the band fucking kicked ass thru out the whole set.

VR rocked and they did a great version of Guns & Roses' "Patience", a song I never did like but Scott Weiland put more soul into than Axl ever could.
The Stone Temple Pilot covers were nice but the GNR stuff sounded like it was played to fast.

Well, I don't doubt that the instrumentalists of Alice in Chains blew Velvet Revolver away. Sean Kinney is one of the best drummers of the '90s (however overlooked he may be), and Slash's playing is growing more tiring by the year (in many cases, he's a Joe Perry ripoff without the funkiness). But I could never bring myself to watch AIC live anymore: Layne Staley was the soul of that band, and his death did that band in for me.

Weiland and the former STP members need to stop playing around and get back together.

I doubt an STP reunion would be any good, Weiland's writing has severely declined.

If only for a reunion tour. Anything's better than this VR radio stuff I'm hearing.

Anyone going or been to any shows?Saw them a couple weeks ago. Great show, but I think the real test of the reformed AIC will be in the studio. It's one thing to ape Layne's mannerisms; it's something else altogether to forge on and create new work.

They are recording as Alice in Chains?!?!

Just curious, how well did Duvall handle the chorus of "Would?" I always thought those vocals were damn near inimitable.

Wow. Well, maybe I should give them a chance, then. But like you said, imitation doesn't equal good songwriting. Of course, Cantrell is probably still capable, and he wrote a lot of their stuff anyway.

Without Layne, it's not Alice in Chains. I don't care, it's just not.

I won't knock the album until I hear it, but, I agree, without Layne, its not Alice in Chains.

Layne was one of my idols, and he was a big inspiration for me when I became a vocalist. I could never bring myself to see somebody pretending to be him. It's like the Doors with Ian Asterbury or Queen with Paul Rodgers. It just doesn't work.

I thought Queen w/ Paul Rodgers sounded great.

I don't think the new AIC singer is pretending to be Layne.
He's sounds a little like Layne just like Ripper Owens sounded a little like Rob Halford in Judas Priest.

Bon Scott died and a year later AC/DC got Brian Johnson who sounds nothing like Bon.

Layne passed away and after all these years why shouldn't the rest of the band try to tour and bring thier music to the fans that want to hear it.

It would be a totally different situation if the band had kicked him out or if Layne had quit and then they replaced him like Van Halen did with Daivid Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar.

I'll send copies(free) to the first 4 people to PM me.

Agreed.

Another "new version" of a band I worshiped that I now can't listen to.

I realize the remaining band members have a right to want to play again and go out on tour, but personally, I don't want to see the new singers. It just bugs me.

I was against VR when I first heard them. I was never a big GnR fan and I rank STP in my top 5 favorite bands (I think they were brilliant and don't get enough credit for it).

However, I have now warmed up to VR. In fact, I think their first album is a very good rock album. The new one is alright also. The Quick Machine song rocks.

I would take an STP reunion in a heartbeat though. As for Weiland songwriting, the DeLeo brothers had a lot of input for the creation of their songs, so I don't think we would notice much of a drop-off if they ever reunited.

I saw the AiC reunion tour last year, and thought they were great.
