A friend told me that Mignola is penciling the cover with Kevin Nowlan inking!!! Must be the first time in a few years that someone else has inked Mignola artwork. Can't wait to see it! I've been re-reading the Nowlan Modern Masters book and have been craving a new team-up with the two artists.
Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere here. I'm lazy. :)

It's a beautiful peice of artwork, and the original has kindly been donated by the two artists, and is being auctioned for charity at the show, so you have a chance to own a unquie peice of art.
The book is limited to just 1992 copies, so you'll have to be an early bird on the Saturday to get a copy.
all the best,

Well, what a huge disappointment that con was. Badly organised, terrible venue and all in all, a bit of cluster poop.
Highlights (there aren't many) chatting to Mr Fegredo, who is a funny guy but I promised him I wouldn't say why. Let me have a sneak peak at the first few pages of the next DCalls issue. Chatted to Dave Gibbons about how Heroes have 'homaged' quite a few of Watchmen's ideas and got a great sketch from him.
And that's it.
Will post a pic of the MM brochure cover, I snagged a few extras. Neil and Rick, PM me your addy's.

Well that's a shame, though I'm jealous that you've seen DC pages already! But I'm annoyed that you can't share Duncan Fegredo's dark, funny secret.
sucks about the con being disorganized....i hope that you still had a good time though;)

Oh, so that's what a Mignola/Nowlan cover meant.
Maybe I was expecting too dramatic things from the inking. It's nice enough, but it looks like a collage of two illustrations.
Do we know for a fact that Nowlan inked the whole thing?

Hi all, first time posting here :)
Just got back from the con myself - I have to agree, the organisation left a lot to be desired!! It was hard to figure out what panel was going on in which room, etc... but overall I had a great time - hey, I met Mike Mignola, so I'm happy!
Mike looked through my portfolio and gave me the ultimate compliment, saying if he didn't know beforehand, he would have thought I was already working in comics. So I had a big grin on my face - great to meet a longtime hero, and even greater for him to like my work! Also had great chats with Duncan Fegredo and Mick McMahon, so it was well worth going. If I've managed to post correctly, this should be a pic of me meeting Mike:

That's a great cover by Mike and Kevin....cool pics Jimmibo...Mike IS the coolest...jealous of all the folks that got to see Duncan's preveiw pages from Darkness Calls.;)

Thanks Fitzroy! My only complaint would be that I miss Dave Stewart's usual 'touch' as colorist on this cover. The stark red isn't a favorite.
That being said, I do like the image overall, and appreciate the pic!

Great photo of you with Mike Mignola, jimmibo.
Boy is it black in that convention centre. It's like, how much more black could this be? and the answer is none. None more black.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the show. Thankfully you are in the minority. Also sad that you felt compelled to steal extra copies of the con book, that were being charged at £5 each ensuring those who'd paid to get in missed out on a copy.
Any way... thanks to all those who attended the show!
We hope you had a great time!

The original cover art raised £1300 for charity. Thank you to Mike and Kevin for your generous donation. The money went to Deaf and Blind Children and to the Alex Toth Foundation, our nominated charity.

I'm confused, if he paid £5 for each of them, how did he "steal" them?

Steal? 5 bucks for a Con program is the stealing...with all due respect. How much did entry to the Con cost? Was the program included?

Just carm down will you! geez lol
the programs were free for people that brought tickets , I got 2 by being handed one when i first walked in and then getting one in the bag of goodies at the start, I think peopel that were buying tickets on the day had to buy them where people who pre-ordered got free ones!and £5 for a convention book really isnt that bad, now the mini batman kubricks at £5 were a rip off lol

Just to clarify, Fitz got two copies from me and my boyfriend as we knew there were people on here he would pass them on to. So no, he didn't steal them - he was doing people a favour!
We were at the con for both days. The choice of venue was really disappointing (or rather the allocated space within it) - the rooms were way too small, there was no central bar or natural meeting place, and having the dealer room at the far end of the museum made the whole event feel very fragmented. I'd have liked to see the event taking place in a hotel with everyone staying in the same place and some central amenities (bar, restaurant, etc), as that's more conducive to socialising, networking and late-night party fun. Maybe next year?
The program was okay; it could've been better, but I'm not really complaining as it's all personal opinion anyway. Doubtless lots of attendees thought it was spot-on even though I only went to three items (tried to go to a fourth but couldn't get in). I also heard the portfolio reviews went a bit tits-up, but I wasn't there as an artist so can't speak from personal experience. Another thing I hope they work on for next year.
All in all I wish I'd stayed at home instead of spending crap loads of money on trains and hotels, though it was great to catch up with Fitz and see the Nowlan/Mignola program items. I appreciate what the organisers were trying to do but they need to ramp it up a bit next year if they hope to keep their numbers up.
Anyway, that's my two cents! :D

Okay, I'm going to step in now and request a cease fire here and now. Chebbo is one of very few organisers who put a great deal of effort both during and after the show to make things run as smooth as possible. English cons are not like Stateside cons, very little money is pumped in from the big companies, it's all run on spit and good faith. I can tell you from my experience how tiring it is working the show, I'm still recovering. I think everytime that I spied Chebbo and the other organisers they were attending to problems and trying to avert them. The man is tired and cranky and more than likely had to deal with people attending the con taking more than their fair share- it happens, I've seen it. Let it go.
This con was a great advance on the last one and I have no doubt the next will be better still. I fully intend to support it, unpaid, paying my own hotel, as I have done for my professional life... that's 20 years of people assuming I get paid to appear at cons.
A bad con? I don't think so, the organisers flew in Mike Mignola and Kevin Nowlan, not seen in the UK for 15 years! What the heck do you want? That's a rhetorical question, no smart ass answers please, prove that you are mature forum contributors and not trolls.
Sorry for the outburst, had to be said. No go play nice, have fun, better for your karma!

It's not good folks when one of our esteemed favorite creators feels that they have to step and call a cease fire. Let's remember to police ourselves, brothers and sisters.

I don't think anyone's trolling - I was just giving my opinion on an event I paid hard-earned cash to attend.
As a UK con-organiser myself I did notice a few flaws in the organisation, and they did interfere with my enjoyment of the event - but as I said it's all personal opinion. I'm confident that next year's show will be bigger and better, and am in fact looking forward to it.
See? No trolling! Now let's all have some tea and biscuits. :)
I just thought this needed to be said. I looked up snag in the English dictionary, it has many different meanings, under slang it means to "pick up", not "Steal".:( I don't want to offend anyone.:;)

You know I could see this if someone was calling Chebbo a flaming pile of pooh (in much more offensive terms) but that's not the case.
People came here and expressed an honest opinion of the show. What they thought. Positive or negative, it was feedback. The organiser didn't like the feedback so what does he do? Basically retaliates with name calling and false accusations. What I said stands. Bad form.
I don't care who defends him, Chebbo is the one coming across as the immature forum troll on this one. If he's tired and cranky...then go take a nap. It's no excuse to point fingers.
I've said my piece and will not be chiming in on this topic again. I felt personally targeted since my post was the one quoted so...

Summary of what my brain is able to process right now:
Some posters were not impressed by the show and they were expressing their opinions.
Fitzroy is a long-time good egg, respected for who he is and the good works that he does.
Some people were very pleased with the show.
Many people worked very hard on/at the show.
I want posters to please remember to PM and/or email me (or Alz) when it looks like a thread is turning mucky.
Alz is traveling today, so he will not be around to mod for a few days.
My 16-year family pet died, my family is very upset because it is a reminder of how very very ill my aunt is too, thus I am closing this thread because I am bone tired (mentally) and don't want to deal with it any more right now. I might re-open it later.
Please play nice in the other threads, it's been an uncool week per the forum.

Posting this for Chebbo--
Subject: Apology
Hi There,
Chebbo here, one of the BICS organisers.
I was not able to post to the thread as it is now closed, but I just wanted to make an official appology to the person who I offened. I misunderstood their posting and thought they'd gotten hold of an extra book by dishonest means and were bragging about it on the forum. I've since been proven wrong, and I'm really sorry for lashing out the way I did. Duncan Fegredo sort of guessed right when he mentioned that I might have been a little tired after the event, but it's really no excuse for the comment I made, and I'm sorry for any upset and offense caused.
Please feel free to post the above onto the thread.
best wishes,
Chebbo
