If the Trojans had just looked a gift horse in the mouth, things would have worked out much differently...

Lots of comedians have picked apart the Trojan horse story, but I think Eddie Izzard put it best: "We've left you a big wooden horse... As per usual."

My most hated adage is "There's no smoke without fire"

That is just literally and figuratively wrong - and a dangerous thing to believe.

Never heard that one.

Over here, it's "Where there's smoke there's fire", which is more apt to be true, and a better figurative.

......... There's an old saying in Tennessee. I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee, that says " Fool me once ...... shame on ......... shame on you. Fool me ........ you can't get fooled again." bush jr

Dear Benjamin Franklin,
There is one more thing that is certain in life.

Rock and roll.

I think that's an equivalent statement.

"Great minds think alike"

So do mediocre ones.

Surely that just means excatly the same thing?

And I have to say I HATE that saying... I dread to think how many people's lives have been ruined by that kind of thinking.

It does.

And I have to say I HATE that saying... I dread to think how many people's lives have been ruined by that kind of thinking.
That's exactly why I singled it out.

My daddy told me I should hit on smokers at bars, because if she's willing to get cancer, she's willing to get an STD.

Judging by the angry phonecalls? He lied.

Good point about the mediocre ones. But many great minds did not think alike, otherwise we would have missed out on so much creativity in the arts and also so many useful inventions.

I've always had bad luck with adages my grandpa told me.

For instance "When you see a large, angry Great Dane, smear yourself with ketchup and stick your head right in that fucker's mouth" never really worked out for me.

Isn't the end of the great minds think alike adage
"- though fools' seldom differ"
?

.......not sure if its an adage but my grandfather would allways say ".....said the old woman as she pissed in the sea " - i never did know what he was talking about
