Ok this book was 100 times better than the Wildstorm issue. The whole book is the origin of the Jokester. I liked that it really gave you a good look at the chararacter, and actully made him seem like more than a one note character. The story starts with the Jokester as a stand up and goes right up to the events in Countdown. The other characters from Earth 3 were pretty fun too. You had the Crime Society, Talon, Riddler, Three Face, and Duela Dent. The apperence by Harly was very good too. I liked that it did finally clear up Duela's story somewhat, but it did open a few more in the process. And it was interesting to get a little more info about Talon after his brief apperences in the Teen Titans book during the OYL storys. It also shows why the Jokester jumped into the telaportation field when the Challengers left Earth 3, and he did have a reason.

I wish I could be as enthusiastic over the Countdown books as you are.

I really wanted to like these books because of Dini's involvement, but they're all so half-baked and boring.

The Crime Society and the Jokester are both equally dumb; I really wish they'd just stayed with Morrisson's Earth 2 Crime Syndicate (minus all the lame stuff added to them by Kelly [or am I thinking of Casey ?]and Busiek).

Jokester is the best thing to ever come out of Countdown. I know it doesn't sound like much given that Countdown is full of almost consistent failure, but Jokester seriously is amazing.

I hope that they keep going with him, do an Elseworld with him, I would buy every copy printed just to read it.

He's the only hero who can truly say he laughs in the face of death.

I think the concepts behind this new earth are very sound, and I can't wait to see more.

Except I think this issue was just badly written. Everything seemed so forced.

I think the only thing that had any force was the Titanium blet buckle to Owlman's crotch!
HA!

Can someone explain what Talon did in the Teen Titans, and what he was like, and what is explained backstory was in the Teen Titans book?

Because the multiverse wasn't introduced at this point.

Talon was first seen in that photo album with the other "Missing Year Titans" from Teen Titans #38, he next appeared in that issue of 52 when Osiris attempts to join the Titans where Talon says "That kid would get his a$$ kicked on my Earth.", and after that he wasn't seen again.

Interesting issue, it gave an actual backstory which is more than I can say for any of the other earths characters they have visited. I'd like to know more about this earth 3. I liked how they gave owlman his classic looking suit at the start. Anyway I have a feeling that we may see the antimatter universe CSA wiped out and have the Crime Society take its place.

The Search for Ray Palmer: Crime Society

Okay, someone clue me in. Is this a backup feature to a current issue of Countdown, or some sort of standalone one-shot?

Because I typically wouldn't bother picking up anything labeled "Ray Palmer," but the Crime Society interests me.

It a somewhat tie-in to Countdown. They are doing Oneshots for some of the worlds seen in Countdown. Basically it is the origin of the Jokester (the Earth 3 version of the Joker who is a good guy) seen in Countdown. It shows who he is and why he does what he does. It also shows why he jumped in with the Challengers (Donna Troy, Jason Todd, and Kyle Rayner) when they briefly visited his world looking for Ray Palmer. You in no way need it to follow Countdown, but it is a fun story. You do get to see a good bit of Owlman in this issue along with some of the otehr Crime Society members.

I thought it was the best thing coming out of Countdown so far. And they finally resolved Duela's origin after decades...

I generally liked this book; especially the Jokester, but the Crime Society seemed fairly ineffectual and de-powered. They has twice the members of Morrison's Syndicate and coudn't win a battle on their own world. Owlman seemed more a common thug than a being who ruled the world (as the Crime Syndicate did in Morrison's book). And Jokester was able to hurt Ultraman? They seemed to be there just for background;with the exception of Owlman.
I hope the Society is fleshed out in the future.

Plus a bonus of explaining where Talon came from, i'm guessing that however Duela got to the mainstream DCU her boyfriend followed along

Talon: a more ruthless Tim. In Syndicate Rules in JLA Anti-matter Owlman killed Anti-matter Tim Drakes father just so he could gain custody of his Son. I also think that Owlman set up Talon and Owlgirl in Bludhaven to compete and see who would rise to become the new crime lord. Talon won because he was more cunning, but that was Anti-Matter earth not Earth-3

Really liked this one actually.

Thought that the Jokester/Tim Drake bit about getting hit with a crowbar was nice.
