Poltergeist fans! For the movie's 25th anniversary, Poltergeist is playing ONE NIGHT ONLY in a theater near you (or very far away from you.)

I've got my tickets!

One of the freakiest non-horror movies you'll ever see folks. Thanks for the heads up, Rick!

I have never seen it...

On a side note, Poltergeist activity is done by invisible forces...Isn't there a visible ghost in this?

The screening was great. I've seen this movie dozens of times on television but this is the first time I've seen it theatrically and it was just a ton of fun. As many times as I've seen it, I didn't remember how many funny and clever moments the movie had in it. Poltergeist trades off between making you laugh and scaring the shit out of you pretty frequently.

As a nice bonus, Zelda Rubinstein, the lady that played Tangina the medium in the movie, was at our screening! It was very bizarre when just hours before that I was reading an interview with her on Ain't It Cool News (recommended reading for her comments about Tobe Hooper alone). and then suddenly, she's in the row in front of me at the movies. I didn't think the sometimes too-cool-for-school LA audience would even acknowledge her, but when she finally appeared on screen, the crowd erupted with applause. (I was too chicken to talk to her....just because I live here, doesn't mean I don't get starstruck.)

After the movie, they showed a short documentary on hauntings with "experts" talking about their experiences and their feelings about Poltergeist (which will probably be an extra on the upcoming anniversary DVD). We pretty much giggled through it. :)

It starts out invisible and is so for half the movie. However, official definitions don't say anything about it being invisible. The word "poltergeist" is German, literally meaning "noisy ghost".

Most modern paranormal theories (junk science) seem to agree that they are caused my a host and are not visible though..

I was just curious anyway.

Most modern paranormal theories (junk science)

This is why we laughed throughout that "documentary".

Yeah. Unfortunately, like most documentary type things on TV, are in it for the entertainment. Weird Science by Michael White is a great book on scientific explanations to ghosts, UFOs, time travel, etc.

Also, the Amazing Randi's website is chock full of great stuff. randi.org

Ya know, I had a chance to see him at a local college a couple years ago around Halloween and something came up at the last minute and I couldn't go. :(

As far as if ghosts are "real" or not, I think its a little difficult to swallow that they are conscience beings, but with as many reports as there are from so many walks of life, it doesn't seem like there couldn't be some sort of phenomenon...but that is topic for another thread I suppose.

I have a theory on ghosts ( we icelanders love that stuff:D )
For another thread, sorry for spoiling, I couldn't resist.
