Thats all it is. Isn't about the team at all its about a woman whose someone managed to get bland basic hero lines that are stereotypical to the same stereotypical basic leader actions lower leaders do and somehow managed to convince PG fans shes deserving of the spot or doing well.
Shes just there doing what the writers want her to, nothing interesting, nothing that makes her stand out as a leader or show she deserves the spot. Each issue has basically become not how can we better use this whole team/flesh the team out but how can we use the team to make PG the spotlight again. Maybe if she actually had character traits that were likable or even was written as a decent character in the past I might except her more, but at this moment shes nothing more than the window.
In the end while the writing and art isn't bad, it leaves much more original, characters like Stargirl from getting deserving time(I think that I seen her flying stage used as a bus more than I've actually seen her do hero stuff/be in a fight with villains/bad guys. While new people like Cyclone and the wildcats also get shoved to the side.
when a writer like Geoff takes on a thing like this it upsets me cause I know he can do teams well(the titans being amazing for 43 out of his 46 issues) but adding another character to the team just seems to me like he rather have people be there than use deserving people well.
Until he realizes that we don't want it to be all about PG and to actually develop the team/characters its going to continue to be sad.

It doesn't look very sad to me, nor does seem to be "The Power Girl Show." If she gets a little more attention than the others, it could be because she's in charge now. As for "doing what the writer wants her to do," of course she is. All characters do that. I'd like to see more of Hawkman myself, but I think JSA is doing fine otherwise.

Just kidding. But I do love Power Girl, she's easily my favorite female DC hero and I love what Johns is doing with her.
Justice Society is an excellent comic. My only complaint, is there isnt enough time to spend on some of my favorites while they keep adding more characters to the team. But the series is still young, so its only the most minor of complaints ;)

Took the words right out of my mouth.
I'll add that this team has a lot of characters right now, so of course some are going to take the spotlight over others. Like almost all things, though, it'll be cyclical. Stargirl is Johns' character, after all; I doubt he's going to neglect her forever. Neither will he do the same with Hawkman, Mr. Terrific, Alan, or Jay, all of whom really haven't had much panel time since the series relaunched.
For the foreseeable future, however, it looks like we'll be focusing on KC Superman, and by all indications, yeah, PG as well. But what's so bad about that? As long as the stories are entertaining each month -- and in my humble opinion, they definitely have been thus far -- then I'm not going to complain about who's the focus. Hawkman's moment in the sun will come sooner or later, and when it does I'm sure it will have been well worth the wait.:)

i read JSA til the first issue and i haven't noticed a power girl show so far. Like how it is at the moment. She's a leader of the team so she gets attention of course.

I don't see how anyone who has actually read the new series could say it's a Power Girl show. Just about every issue so far has been devoted to a specific character on the team while simultaneously tying into the big picture. A neat trick that Geoff Johns has pulled off really well so far. Also, #8 revealed that the events we've seen so far have been over the course of about a week, so it's not like there's been that many missions yet. Of course PG is going to get some screen time, she's currently the glue that is holding the team together being the chairwoman. Stargirl may not have seen much action so far, but she has had quite a few good character moments. This series is just plain great, and I think the character interactions are far more interesting than beat-em-ups.

Right on the money.
Also, Johnny, your in the minority for your dislike of Powergirl. She seems to be one of the most popular characters in the DCU at the moment, she's even getting her own series, and she's leading the JSA so of course she's going to get a fair deal of page-time. Over all stories around her and the JSA lately have just been... Well, Better.
JSA seems to be one of the driving forces of the DCU at the moment, it explains much of the universe itself, it focuses on some major players, it evenly balances the teams humanity and their super heroic capabilities without over-doing it on either end. This has hardly been about powergirl, in fact the comics focused on a different character each issue for weeks now, this last issue that had is actually the first major team issue they've done in awhile. This one didn't focus on any one particular character but rather focused on the team as a whole. Before now we had an issue for PG, one for Liberty Belle, one for Wild Cat, Atom Smasher, etc. etc.
As for her doing what the writers tell her.... I'm sorry I just have to say this has to be one of the most bizarre things I've ever read. What the hell do you expect her to do? Jump of the page, flip the writer the bird and go to the spa instead of doing what the writer does?
He/She is the WRITER for cryin' out loud, the characters do what they say because the characters are fictional they only exist because the writer is writing about them.
If a writer has characters who don't do what he writes them doing then he better get to a mental health clinc PDQ because he's developing some serious issues.

Power Girl has two blatantly obvious "character traits" that make her a fan-favorite. I personally am indifferent to her. Her capable leadership seems like a natural extension of her bold and straight-forward approach to heroics, dating all the way back to her earliest appearances. But I still consider her exactly the kind of character that only works well in a team book, because she presents a good visual but an otherwise incomplete character. Kind of like Cyborg or Starfire from the Teen Titans. Neither one of them could carry a solo title for over a decade the way their teammate Nightwing has.
Still, I think that you are overreacting. Power Girl got some attention in the current issue, and as team leader, she will continue to get attention every issue. But there are just too many characters in the JSA for her to dominate the book the way you are thinking. Newer team members like Damage and Maxine and young Wildcat are probably going to get more attention in this series, at least for now, and unfortunately that means that characters who played a bigger role in the previous JSA series, like Stargirl and Mr. Terrific, won't get as much time in the spotlight in the near future.

Well, after the massive undertaking to turn back the clock at DC and completely regress her character, I am kind of glad that they are at least trying to do something with her. There has to be something done to justify the changes. Hopefully, she will come through better than she was previously. That is the hope, as I loved Peege and her arc once upon a time.
Still, the very best thing is Geard Jones' awful PG's Baby story is a figment of the universe's imagination. That fact right there is what got me through the weird reduction her character suffered to get to IC and what has come after.
Another good thing is she is leading the Society. That is a development continuous with that of her former self. So yay!

I don't agree with this at all. Powergirl hasn't really been the focus at all, everyone is getting equal page time at the moment, though the who thing with Kingdom Come Superman will ensure she's a big part of that, but otherwise this has been one of my Favorite DC titles, and I don't even care for Powergirl very much.

You DO realize that johns wrote most of the previous JSA book right? He's already given stargirl the spotlight plenty of times. I also hardly see Power girl getting enough screentime to warrant the book being called the PG show.

The only part of Johns writing that shows this 'Power Girl show' trait is her interactions with the new Citizen Steel. She is being written as his mentor despite the fact there are many more experienced characters on the team. The Citizen Steel naming part was odd as well, he didn't want to be a superhero or a new ... Steel. I think that Johns may try and expand this relationship into a romantic one in the future.

This is coming from someone who likes current Supergirl..........
I don't think I've ever agreed with anything you've ever posted.
To put it bluntly, I won't ever agree with you on this, partly because it doesn't make sense, and partly because I'm admittingly a PG fan.
I respect your opinion, but don't put out blanket statements like that.......

I have to agree with just about every poster here. In no way is JSA the 'Power Girl show'. So far, we've seen issues spotlighting Citizen Steel, Damage and Liberty Belle. We've seen a focus on the old guard, especially Wildcat, in the early issues, and on Cyclone as well. I'm sure we'll eventually see storylines revolving around Hawkman, Dr. Mid-Nite and Mr. Terrific as well.
Sure, the current storyline seems to be focusing on Power Girl a little more, but given the involvement of KC Superman, that's not surprising. PG is an alternate reality Kryptonian, which makes her the perfect POV character for a story about another alternate reality Kryptonian.

You know, that despite these obvious "character traits" that set her up to be popular for a certain set, Power Girl actually seems to have a huge fanbase among gay males and women. She really seems to be the Wonder Woman of the modern comic book era.
