Well I guess this one shot is proof that you can have a one shot that also progresses the story as a whole. This does exactly what I was expecting the Paralax one shot to do. This progresses the main plot while also giving us a background on Cyborg and what is currently going on in his head. This issue is perfect with interesting dialogue and good art. Much better than the Paralax one. In this issue Cyborg is leading the manhunters on an attack on earth and the JLA Satellite base. Also ends up with a major battle between Superman and Cyborg with Supes captured in his clutches. I highly recommend this one shot. Hopefully, the next one is done similarly to this one.

This was a fantastic issue and so far my favorite of the spotlights. Course I'm saying this totally biased given that Cyborg Superman is my favorite character at DC. :evilsmile

I'm really looking forward to this one. I might make a trip to pick it up now, instead of waiting till next week. I've always loved Cyborg Superman too.

What is going on with Superman lately?
If the cover to Justice League #14 is telling the truth, Supes becomes a prisoner of Luthor's Injustice League. And now in the Cyborg Superman special, he gets captured by Hank Henshaw.
What kind of Superman is he if he's keeps getting captured by the bad guys?

I like it. Know why? Because it goes against the idea that all the problems disappear once Clark steps in. He's one of the most powerful heroes on Earth, but he's not invincible. Now it depends on how he's humbled and by whom, but I don't want to see the Sinestro Corps breaking a sweat just because Superman appears, unless he has GLs, Flash, and assortment of superguys with him.

That's alot for Supes to go up against.

Don't you mean a Sinestro Ring? and I didn't think he had one, unless he has one in his one shot which i haven't read yet. Which shouldn prove as only a minor inconvieniance as Superman breaks ring constructs all the time

I don't currently read any of the GL titles, but I picked this issue up being a fan of the Cyborg Supes during the Reign of the Supermen era. The artwork was great, the backstory was awesome, and the way the book was laid out was just plain cool. Every now and again it's fun to pick up a one-shot, even if I don't read the series, and this book was totally worth it.
Go Henshaw!

I have to say -- you got the horror of Hank Henshaw's initial tragedy down perfectly, Patrick. Great art all around, but those parts of his origin were just plain frightening and leagues beyond the rest of the book. Very well done. :)

I really like how this advanced the overall plot of the Sinestro Corps War. I'd have been fine with more of a focus on Cyborg Superman (like the Parallax issue, that people seemed to dislike) but this was a great issue.
My only complaint was that they seemed to gloss over, if not skip right past, the Reign of Supermen part of Henshaw's life -- have they undone that particular bit of Superman history (like how they've undone Superman's execution of Zod and Co.) ?

Why would they do that? However, is there something from that era that would be particularly relevant to the current storyline? They seem to be focusing on his origin to humanize him and show why he wants to die.

Just that he got his powers of Superman from his Birthing Matrix ship. The same ship shown in the special which kind of means part of the MoS exists still.

Yeah, that's the big revelation from this special. The Birthing Matrix still exists. But how? We know Kal-El was sent to Earth as a baby in a rocket. Where does a Birthing Matrix with his DNA come into play?
Oh well. I'm a MoS fan and I'm just glad a bit of that is hanging on, even if they haven't figured out how to reconcile it.

this is alot better than the Parallax issue. i cant explain how i feel about Henshaw thrashing supes. i've always been a supes fan, but i laughed and at the same time got sad seeing Supes' ass get kicked.

Im so glad you all liked the comic. I sure had a blast working on it!
I didnt realize the origin that Alan scripted had slight changes to what had come before. It's interesting to hear which things were slightly different, like the previously retconned Kryptonian Matrix Chamber.
But I did get the impression that his memory has been twisted by insanity and this was told from this warped perspective. Maybe he's all mixed up himself about the details?
I cant wait for GL 24! I saw a two page spread of some of Ivan's pencils.....MY MIND WAS BLOWN!!!!

Man, if Ivan Reis ever needs a fill in artist or eventual replacement down the road, PLEASE, PLEASE be in line. The pencils in the issue were awesome!
Great art, great writing, this issue was fantastic. Probably my favorite issue yet, save maybe the kick-off one-shot.

This kinda stuff is something that one of Steve Jackson Games' gaming writers has dubbed a "Reality Shard", the anomalous fragment of another reality, the result of a "Reality Quake", what happens when there's such an upheaval in the path of time or worlds that history itself is uphtrust and overturned, leaving a new past in it's wake.

Can you do more GL, please? :)
Sorry Jade, didn't think it was that great:
Cyborg Superman #1 (DC) Are you kidding me? That's his origin! That's a pretty blatant rip off of the Fantastic Four. Anyways, even though this is part of the fun GL war going on, his sad Grecian tragic story hinted at in the beginning just got a whole lot stupider.

It's always been a blatant rip off of the Fantastic Four. That's what makes it so awesome. He's Reed Richards gone batshit psychotic. Plus, this issue alone makes the character accessible to anyone.
Though, if the Anti-Monitor delivers his "gift", then we might not be seeing too much of him after all...
On a different note, if he's really all cybernetics and no organics at all anymore, why is he still called Cyborg Superman? Shouldn't he technically be Android Superman?

I don't think he does. Henshaw's WAY more robot than organic -- unless I missed something, his cyborg parts (which is 75-90% of his body) have cyborg-level strength and toughness, not Kryptonian.
The Batman

How does that cyborg level strength compare to Kryptonian level strength?
I've never seen anything in any of the stories I've read that says that his cyborg parts are particularly weaker than his organic ones.

I don't follow the GL Corps much outside of their individual appearances in other books, but my brother's almost as big a fan of 'em collectively as he is of Batman. So, after hearing all the positive buzz about this issue, I bummed it off of him. It was pretty good, I'll admit. Nice art, and Cyborg Supes' origin is niftier than I had recalled.
However, Henshaw's a little too emo for me here to really feel much sympathy for him. "Life is pain; life is suffering." I couldn't help but picturing those Goth kids from South Park during some of his monologues. Seriously, guy, take in a movie or a long walk on the beach.
Still good overall, though. A nice blend of action and storytelling, with the caption-heavy dialogue not detracting at all from its effectiveness. Not my book of the week or anything, but a fun distraction despite myself not having much of an interest in the key players involved.

True, but how often do you see Superman bust apart robots?
While there's no canon I'm aware of regarding Henshaw, I kind of assume solar-charged Kryptonians > metal.

Um yeah that's the point it started out as a F4 rip off but somehow the character evolved in what he is now.

CS's body is composed of Kryptonian technology. I'm not sure if that helps, but clearly, Hank is at least Superman's equal.
Also, was the new Watchtower destroyed?
