View Full Version : Update: Still Verifying Nominees

Well, this has turned out to be harder than I expected.
Without getting too specific, the judges are now debating about the eligibility of two to three nominees. The issues include published credits and, for lack of a better word, "connections" to people/companies involved with CBI.
Should any of these artists be disqualified, then that means even more work for us, looking into alternate nominees and verifying their elibility and starting the whole process over again with the clock ticking away.
All of that said, it appears as though we have almost half the slots filled as of this post and I'm still hoping to announce the ten contestants sometime tomorrow...
Whew.

Interesting. If we haven't been contacted at this point, should we take that as we weren't one of the initial ten selected?

No, more than ten artists were nominated and ranked and it's taking a while to work down the list, so a few people could be hearing from me as late as, well, later today to check on their eligibility and if they're still willing and able to be in the contest...

Gotcha. Whether I make it or not, definitely looking forward to seeing who did!

Glad to hear there still a spot of a chance.

Waiting on pins and needles myself. I deliberately kept fairly quiet (though I've been a happy lurker!) and I'm quite amazed at all of the talent that has entered. Truly wonderful stuff and whoever the Top 10 are I'm sure they will well represent.
I'm also bloody nervous, of course, that I won't be selected. Comes with the territory and I'm sure everyone is feeling that way. I did get one nice piece of news earlier today. An interview I had done with Justin Jordan went up on CBR a short while ago. It's at http://comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=12031 and there you can hear me (uh, read me?) yabbering on about trying to get my first graphic novel published.
Part of the reason I entered Idol was to hopefully just broaden awareness for my work. Because, as many of you know, it just ain't easy out there. But even if the answer is no, I'm indebted for being given the opportunity to try. 'Cuz it may sound corny, but trying is important. This quote has always resonated with me for exactly that reason: "...that while it’s tempting to play it safe, the more we’re willing to risk the more alive we are. In the end, what we regret most are the chances we never took." (final episode of Frasier)
So, with that in mind, best of luck all!

just a little thought to ponder:
better not expect too much if youll get in the 10 spots because if you do and yet didnt make it, it will only break your heart
ive already programmed myself, my feelings on not winning although i did the best i could (which is the most important thing) so if ever i failed it wont upset me much
but if youre NOT expecting it too much and NOT playing it too confident and then you make it then the joy for you is tremendous
just think about it...

Yeah, I think that's probably the best way to look at it, frbarba.
It is amazing how much work J is putting into handling this thing. Very impressive on his part.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to seeing the competition get underway whether I make it in the top 10 or not... (Of course, I'd much prefer the "make it in" option... ^^)
But even if I don't make it, I eagerly await the opportunity to "play at home" and show everybody here that don't think I'm Comic Book Idol material just what I'm made of!! :evilsmile

I think it's cool the contest will be starting soon. Can't wait to see the projects, whether or not I am involved in the actual contest. Congrats to whoever makes the top ten!
