View Full Version : Future Bug Threat? *Planet Hulk Spoilers*

In the lull between WWH issues, I decided to read up on my Planet Hulk HC, and I noticed something that I don't think has been picked up yet (apologies if it has been..)
What would happen if Miek & No-Name Brood were to procreate? I know they 'teased' (and by 'tease', I mean 'NOBODY WANTS TO SEE IT') them getting it on, but was the deed done? And more importantly- what about the offspring? I know they're two totally different species- but using comic book logic: WHO CARES! (A Kree/Skrull child that looks human? Wuhh?!) I thought that would be a cool new being that would spring out of the series, definitely unintentional, but something to be explored.
Especially since (IIRC) both species are technically at an end, w/ the last 'queens' of their species dead. How would a Brood/..um.. Bug hybrid impact future Hulk/Marvel stories? I think it'd be interesting, especially since Planet Hulk bumped both up to 'Almost Hulk' levels of strength and fury. Or maybe this is something the Warbound series will tackle?
Thoughts? Concerns? "Dude, you thought about the 'Bug-on-Brood' action? WTF is wrong w/ you!?!"

Maybe it would look like Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie... no? :)

I Googled 'Alien tech bug hybrid', and here's what they showed:

They call it 'Prius'! Ohh.. that's a cool super-villain name :D
So seriously, nobody's thought of the potential? Am I the only HR Giger fan around here? I'd love for Ladronn to design this new hybrid alien.

I guess we'll have to see at the end of Heroes For Hire what becomes of this situation. I mean, hivelings don't spawn asexually do they? All those little hivelings had to have came from somewhere.

Saw a preview of the H4H that comes out on the 10th... it looks like Miek's already knocked up No-Name... but she needs a surrogate mommy for her Hiveling/Brood kids. And she thinks Humbug is the perfect candidate, and proceeds to... um... tentacle and then...
Thankfully, they cut away. But it probably would make H.R. Giger's face-hugger's means of procreation look like a church social.

I thought the Brood did use facehugger style means of infecting others... unless they've developed a suppository style way...

They use an altered tentacle punching through the belly... you can see it in Silvestri's run at X-Men.

A few questions; I don't follow Humbug or H4H, but what are his powers? What makes him a good candidate for.. umm.. 'egg-laying'? I've never followed the Brood either, so are all of these 'new' progressions? Brood can cross-pro-create w/ other species?

Unclear. Originally he didn't have any powers, but he recently gained bug-related powers. I suspect the main thing that makes him a good candidate is willingness. The Brood have traditionally been able to lay eggs in other species, and by doing so actually incorporate the abilities of that other species (i.e. a Brood-infested superhero turns into a Brood with superpowers), so cross-procreation is not an implausible jump.

Ahh.. thanks dude. I guess the parallels between the Brood and Aliens has already been made, so I'll let it go :D
I'm not going to assume anything or plot out any theories- I just think the potential for the Miek/No-Name/Humbug 'thing' could make for a good outer space-y monster/alien villain in the future.

I thought they were parasitic by nature the Queen asexually produced her eggs and implanted them in whatever carrier was available which produced drones. That they must be impregnated is new to the mythos as far as I know.

I'll chalk that under "...Since I'm the last of the species.."-ability :D It should be interesting however since there are no more Brood Queens (at least according to Planet Hulk) how No Name will do.

It was rather obvious even when the Brood first appeared. It's also fairly likely Noname is wrong about being the last queen anyway.
In Morrisson's last issues of x-men they were showing a future where there was at least one race of intelligent giant insects. Wouldn't be a huge leap of logic to consider the possibility those bugs originated from space.

I thought the benign Brood Bishop mentioned were an allusion to the human/hybrid woman who's Broodlings didn't devour their host's bodies and absorb their connscience but bond with their human hosts.
A quick wikipedia check suggests this lady was Hannah Connover who went into space with her hybrid Broodlings.

That's my cue! Looks like a got a 3rd species added on: HUMAN!
