Holy !@#$. That is going to be incredibly awesome. Every motion picture take on a Lovecraft story fails when the limited budget ruins the horrific feeling, but with Guillermo's budget and imagination and his studio's expertise with CGI, he'll definitely be able to bring the Elder Things to life in a film like this.

Whooooot!!!! I'm.... cautiously optomistic. A bigger budget will help and Del Doro is a HPL fan but he is a HB fan and I had problems with the HB movie. Also it is a Lovecraft movie , HPL is tough to translate to film with a bad track record so far, but I may end up surprised. If nothing else it will get HPL more attention and sell some books.

The fact that it's Universal doing it suggests they are very happy with what they are seeing from Hellboy 2!

I think the horrible track record for Lovecraft stories being turned into movies is that, while the writers and directors' hearts were in the right place (admittedly, most of those movies were made by huge Lovecraft fans), their wallets weren't. Guillermo has an opportunity here to tell one of the more thrilling stories with a sizable budget and an incredible streak of using CGI to the greatest effect of whimsy or horror.
So yeah, there's no way in hell I can't be psyched about an announcement like this.
OOOOOOoooooooh.
My Kind of movie. Leave it to Del Doro to take a story and make it beyond wicked.

I'm on the fence. I much prefer Guillermo's own creations (Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth) to his adaptations... But I think he'll do a great job regardless and he won't be trying to work with the sky-high expecations that people had for Hellboy.

Guillermo just told me that ATMOM is definitely NOT his next film. He did not say whether or not he had brokered a deal to do ATMOM with Universal though so, that part could still be true.
wow....latino review seemed pretty sure....we can still hope;)

Just curious what you mean specifically by this, Tad?
You seem to be implying that Universal would never take a chance on Guillermo unless Hellboy 2 was looking good. Doesn't a film such as Pan's Labyrinth having done well open at least some doors in Hollywood for Guillermo at this point?

I think Universal signed GDT specifically because they didn't want to spend a whole lot of money. Hollywood Reporter or Variety did an article on that.
ATMOM is Guillermo's Titanic so, I think inherently it's not a cheap film. My guess is that Universal was wowed enough by the return on investment with HB2 that they were willing to take ATMOM out of Warner Bros hands and plunk down the money required.

Maybe it was true at one point and things changed. Who knows. Latino Review has been wrong before.

Yikes I really don't think he meant that at all!

A spanish language film is next. I think most folks are guessing it'll be 3993.

As long as GDT gets to make his ATMOM one day, I'll be happy. Alas, not yet...

What's next? ATMOM? TARZAN? 3993?
The great news is: UNIVERSAL has indeed picked up the rights to ATMOM which was floating around in space. THAT is a motive to rejoice for me.
But its not a pre-strike movie. I wish!! But- how could it be?? I will work on HELLBOY until early July and then travel to promote it.
Next year I have to write a script for CHA-CHA-CHA and as soon as HB is over I have to write a big outline for a hush-hush project.
Tarzan is being written at present but no final script has been approved...
The fact is, I have no idea yet... it's all possibilities and the projects are all alive and well and have a home.
ATMOM
LEFT HAND OF DARKNESS
COFFIN
HONEST MAN
TARZAN
3993
I know this: After Hellboy I will take some time off to settle down... PL and HBII were done "back-to-back" and my life got frozen in between.
I am putting a lot of effort in creating a MIMIC dvd and I hope to convince UNIVERSAL to allow me to curate a proper DVD collection of NIGHT GALLERY.
Meanwhile here I am day 92 of 120...
All the best
GDT
In Hollywood it's your last film that counts. Put in negative terms - if Universal did not like what Guillermo was doing on Hellboy 2, creatively or budget-wise, they would not be rushing to sign him on a large scale movie before he's finished with the one he's on.
Creatively, Guillermo has proven himself over and over. But every studio has bean counters from Missouri and they don't believe anything that they haven't watched over themselves.
So all I meant was that the signing shows Universal's confidence and support for Guillermo.
