View Full Version : Nova Corps. Who do you think Nova would recruit into the ranks?

Okay I know we have an ongoing "who wants a Cosmic Avengers Book" thread but let me start the big one. If Nova does decide to form the Nova Corps, who should he recruit and why? Marvel.com have been running a thread for a few days now and so far the members there have formed the following (very unusual) hit-list:
Midnight Sun (Mute Kree Hit-man seen in Silver Surfer in 90's)
Cotati
Firemane, Ghostmare (now Matriarch), Teamleader, Thunderhoof (Horse Warriors)
Noh-Var
Akasha
Aroke
Ko-Rel (dead, but not forgotten).
Quasar (The former Shi'ar Guardsmen)
Talos the Tamed (Skrull)
Sundragon (Pam Douglas)
White Raven (Reformed Mercenary)
Captain Kerjos of the Pheragots
Xenith (Cousin to the Shi'ar Gladiator)
Star-Lord
Bug
Cpt Universe (or the current wearer when the uni-power moves on)
Ganymede
Stacy Dolan-ex gf of Wendell Vaughns who had worn the Star-Brand
Century- if he’s alive
Huntura
Cerise-being a Grace seems out of place for her
Kika (Member of the United Front)
Air-Walker
Firelord
Drax
Gamora
But who else? Come to think of it do we need a large Nova Corps? After the United Front fell, Nova reverted to black-opp tactics forming a small but highly effective crack unit. Maybe this would work better. Now as I'm doing a bit of Nova fan-fiction, maybe I'll hit on this idea..but for now either way who do you think should be in the Corps?

Rick Jones, of Cap n Hulk side kick fame. Give him some powers to finally face up against foes and friends who clearly outclass him.

We do not need the Avengers name on the group, the only benefit of that would be maybe Marvel would promote it properly! I like Guardians of the Galaxy, I know it's used in another universe, but it's cool!
team lineup:
Nova-Prime(Rich)
Nova-Centurion(Ko-rel)
Starlord(Peter Quill in original uniform, I hate the Nazi outfit)
Quasar(Phyla-Vell minus the Dragon, I hate her too!)
Ronan(tired of ruling the Kree)
Firelord
Firestar or Dagger(recruited from Earth, but given Cosmic enhancement)maybe
both

I would honestly like to see a Nova Corps done a bit different from the last one. For one thing I would want Rich to stay on as Nova Prime, the overall leader of the Corps and the most powerful. Then I would have the Annihilation heroes join up, as a special agents if you will, members who would be called on when stuff happens that the regular Corps can't deal with on their own. Kinda like the Defenders team, where they only group up when they needed too. The heroes would also have access to Nova Corps resources, much like Ms. Marvel has access to S.H.I.E.L.D. resources. And in times of great turmoil, they could act as commanders and heavy artillery. For the heroes themselves, I say stick with the Annihilation heroes, maybe add one or two more, but don't go overboard.

I think the key here is cannon fodder, not names. Nova Corp should be full'a red shirts.

Who is this?Kika (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix2/colethanos.htm#Kika).
She was a Giffen creation from THANOS who popped up as a member of Rich and Peter's army.

Ah.... why? Wouldn't be nice if for once we had an organization where members aren't killed off in waves every other story?

Although it would be cool, I doubt we'll see any already established characters inducted into the Nova Corps. I think it's more likely we'll see more Ko-Rel's; characters that Rich meets and befriend in his journeys.
Hehe I'd love to see a member of Korg's race (Kronan) as a Nova Centurion.

Because where else are you going to get them? Makes more sense to me than using kree or skrull, they can only make babies so fast. Besides, its more impressive if they have some power.
I'm not just talking about throwing waves of them at something though, but when you need to kill off a few random squad member when Richard goes on a mission you need some sacrificial lambs.

If Rick had powers, he'd be leading the team inside of minutes.
I mean, powers besides the ability to unleash characters only Roy Thomas remembers from his noggin.

I am shocked and appaled by the utter lack of Girl-Nova on these lists.
The worldmind chose her of all the people in the universe to stop Nova Prime, she must be worth her weight in salt.
Also, Starlord should keep his current uniform. Yeah, yeah it looks like a cheap Jin-Roh rip off, but it's still at least ten times more badass than his old one.
Finally, does this mean that they're all going to have gold helmets? Is this going to be akin to the GLC where everyone has pretty much the same set of powers and are all beholden to the same creed and oath, or is this more like an Avengers in Space where it's a team of different people with different powers working together for a common cause.
On a side note, does anyone else find it odd that Nova members wear yellow... and the GLC's prime enemy the Sinestro corps also wears yellow...

I don't see any reason to have named and well-known characters as Nova Corpsmen other than a fanboy/girl wet dream (no offense).
The guys the other people have already mentioned have had time in the spotlight (and in the case of other names, they've had decades), and I think being a Corpsman is lost to them. I'd rather read about Ko-rel and other people becoming part of the Nova Corps. Maybe a big hitter wouldn't hurt, but you can't make the Nova Corps a who's who of the cosmos. O_O Giving the mantle of a Nova Corps to a normal or at least not well known person (such as Ko-rel, who's being written beautifully) does not make it less special. If any, it only makes them look more heroic.
My two centavos.

I prefer to use non-established characters, like this Nova girl. Maybe one or another already known character, but the Nova Corps should be made mostly by new ones.
And i think that, while his power would be reduced, Rich should still be considerably more powerful than all the others.

Actually, the Worldmind chose Ko-rell out of all the available Kree in its immediate vicinity to stop Nova Prime, not everyone in the universe.
Peace.

Bring Maxam back into the current timeline, and he'd make for a pretty good Nova Corpsman.
Outside of that:
Colonel Bel-Dann (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/beldannkree.htm)would be a good one, though I don't know if he'd be willing to forgo his military duties for the Corps. Maybe if by request/order from Ronan or whoever his Supremor may be, or if there are any other reorganizations of the kree coming down the line. They might actually need/welcome some Nova Corps representation amid their diminished empire.
Raze (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix2/razeskrull.htm) might make for an interesting Corpsman, especially now that his lifequest of hunting his brother Vranx is over. A former mercenary enlisted into the line of the Corps could be cool.
Morfex and Xenith (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/starmasters.htm) of the Star-Masters would be good Corpsmen, as well. Although I wouldn't want to overdo the "named" Skrull presence, having a powered (shapechanging) skrull and a non-shapechanging one (Raze, above) might make for some interesting dynamics.
You've got to have a Tribbitite (Toad-Man) and absolutely, positively must have a Druff!

I too would rather see a new cast of characters rather than established cosmic or galactic heroes from the past joining Nova. Maybe I'd make an exception for guys with a long Nova history and ties to his original book. Powerhouse, Sphinx, and Diamondhead could be rebooted to fit in the title somehow.

For me, Ko-Rel would be #1 on that list (behind Rich). Then I would find other humanoid characters. I do not want a Corp like they showed in Prologue, with worms, turtles and the like. They would be humanoid.

For the record I do prefer a smaller covert team rather than a cast of thousands not that i'd rule it out if there was a significant threat that merited mass deputization. And I would agree that the Nova Corps needs to loose that "cannon-fodder" tag which lets face it was the way they were written. I'd been happy to have a covert team of 7: to make it fair equal opportunity for membership for both sexes and for that matter sexual orientation. ideally my team would be:
Richard Rider: Nova Prime Team Leader
Ko-Rel : Centurion/Medico
For the other 5 I'd probably go for original characters that represent the key civilizations for the Local Group so I'd include a Skrull (cause the idea of having a Skrull and a Kree on the same team would always be a focus for contention!), Spartoi, Centaurian (maybe Samaya back from the dead??), Kika (former mercenary member of the United Front) and at least one Shi'ar. I'd also consider having Quasar on the team though whether it be Wendell resurected or Phyla Vell is open to debate.

Xenophobic and racist are two different things. :D
I actually think it starts looking childish when you have all these little animals wearing helmets and Green Lantern rings. If we did have representatives of major alien races, that would work. I agree with one human, Kree, Skrull, and other races. However, the races can not be like the Brood, who cannot be trusted not to plant their eggs in or kill people. (Oops, xenophobia creeping out).

The thing about having established characters as part of the Corps is that they don't have to be Corpsmen. They would lend their unique powers and abilities to the Corps, not strap on a Nova uniform and blend in.

I did like how DnA showed how the Nova Corp operated and was respected in issue #1. When the one alien race said it cleared the airstrip for the Nova Corps arrival, I thought "how awesome would that look?" An "airforce" full of Nova's touching down and kicking tails.
But I too would only want a hand full deputized. I know it won't happen, but Conquest should include about ten Nova's helping wipe the floor of the enemies.

Looks like when the Nova Corps are reformed we know who the first target gonna be.. I agree with 40TONF. You're xenophobic. Unless of course you had an relationship with a forty foot long Celenoldian Vasper Squid.. though admittedly such a relationship can be a bit messy..and wet,
