Really hope people will give this a chance.

I hope this series is good, but I know I'd be a lot more likely to pick it up if Steve Gerber was writing it. The last Howard mini-series was great. I might give this a chance, though.

I think Ty has the character's best intentions in mind.

Like alot of great comic book characters, There is no way Howard deserves to die with his creator.

I'm an idiot, ignore this post. He meant the *series* Generation X.

Judging from that poker scene, this looks like it could be great.

I'm not sure I like the artists take on Howard though. My favorite Howard look was always from his Generation X apperances. Of course, not may artists can pull off a duck with stuble.

I think that's illegal in every state except Mississippi.

No mention of the redesign at all? Even if Templeton didn't do it, surely he must have said "okay" or something....

And who turned MODOK into Beast Machines Megatron (http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/preview2.php?image=previews/marvelcomics/howard/01/HOWARDV2002010_col.jpg)?

MODOK has had worse redesigns, but I still think his arms and legs are a bit too large.

It isn't MODOK, it's MODOT. Mobile Organism Designed Only for Talking.

It's not a matter of not caring for Ty Templeton's stuff, it's a matter of really liking Steve Gerber's writing. Unless he's just not able to write Howard, I don't see any purpose in handing over the reigns to anyone else.

And isn't Steve Gerber still alive?

Not so mobile when you're anchored to one spot :)

[PS: Unless they changed that initial too, it's "Mental"]

Er, yeah I think so

... though I have no idea what he's been doing since Hard Time ended.

I might get this in trade depending on the reviews.

not interested unless Gerber's writing it.

Yes.

I was saying Howard shouldn't live and die by Steve Gerber, I wasn't implying that he was dead.

I get that some of you guys don't want to read the "non-Gerber" Howard.

But then, you also have to stop reading Batman, the FF, Spider-Man and pretty well everything else being produced by Marvel and DC, using the same logic of "original creators or no one", and nobody thinks that.

All I can promise is that I did the best I could to make Steve happy with this version of his duck, and I think there's a moment or two in there he'd recognize as "in character". After the bad taste of the movie, or some of Howard's less than accurate appearances as a guest star in other titles, the beaten fans are wary of other folks getting their hands on this character. I have the same thoughts about Howard as you guys.

All I ask is that this new book is judged on its own, and not pre-judged as a lesser version of Howard (such as the movie,) before you even read it. Personally, I like some of the Bill Mantlo Howard the Duck run. They're not Gerber, but they entertain me, and I'm glad we have them. (Duck-ula, with Mantlo and Golden, is one of my favorite Howard stories!)

And let's never forget that Brunner, Colan, and Chris (Duck stubble) Bachalo are also not the original co-creators of Howard (who was Val Mayerik, IIRC) either, but they're accepted as part of the gang because they did a good job.

Open mind, that's all we ask.

BY THE WAY: someone asked why I didn't mention the re-design in the interview. The simple answer: I wasn't asked. And I had nothing to do with the re-design. I discovered it, much like you guys, when the pages showed up already pencilled and inked.

But my thoughts on the subject? It grew on me. By the last issue of the series, it fit Howard and Juan quite well. There's a couple of pages in the last issue that (I hope) end up as some people's favorite images of Howard. They're certainly going to be memorable, that's for sure. (Oh the trouble we're going to get into with some of the more "conservative" Howard fans in issue #4...HOO BOY!)

Ty the Guy.

I honestly don't get it either.

It's no different any other taking of the reigns in Marvel history yet people still act like this is the first time it's ever been done.

Yeah, it's the internet.

I don't think so. ;)
