With the submissions thread closing at approx. noon (EST) today, the selection process begins.
Our selection committee consisting of eight former Comic Book Idol contestants will go through all the submissions and from the 170+ entries choose ten artists to compete in this season's contest. If all goes according to plan, I will get in touch with those ten artists within the next 24-48 hours to verify their eligibility and officially invite them into the competition.
I'm hoping to post the names of said ten contestants both here and on the blog by Thursday afternon.
The first round of the competition is now scheduled for the following Thursday, October 11th.
In the meantime, look out for a press release announcing the name of our third panel judge and the exciting assignment he's adding to the already cool list of prizes for our winner!
Thank you for your attention.

Only if Ten Ton is a town outside of Colorado Springs. LOL Yeah, Ten Ton is my home away from home.
I'm doing those Green Lantern pages for the sequenctial challenge over at Ten Ton. I figure it should give me some good practice before this challenge gets started.

I'm working on an 8 page webcomic called Everforce for Penciljack.com. Well, it's an ongoing webcomic and I'm working on the first episode. Each episode is 8 pages.
First 3 pages so far:

As of this post, not yet. Only two of the eight nominating judges have submitted their picks. The others are diligently going through the 180+ submissions as we speak. That's a lot of stuff to look through and there are a lot of great artists who are making it really tough to narrow things down...
And that's all you get to see behind the curtain today

Well, there's eight judges. The eight chooses their favorite ten, and it's not like they're all going to pick the same ones. They would have to find the common denominators, the ones voted more than just once.
So, after the eight judges choose their ten, they would have to choose ten from those eighty (not that there's going to be eighty different people chosen).
I predict that they're going to all agree on a couple, and then have a little bit of trouble deliberating on the last few.
So, if you're chosen, you're not going to know until the very end.

Will you be listing the ten that each judge chose? And a count of how many votes an artist got?

You know we want another peek behind the curtain J. :) Any chance of some info on where you're at with the selection process? Is it time for the not contacted to settle for the play at home?

Just posted this in the Q&A thread:
"...if you're waiting to hear from me, and you're "worried" because it's already Tuesday... doesn't mean you're out of the running yet! The process is taking longer than expected and I'm just now checking on the first few top choices, making first contact and/or waiting to hear back from them..."
As for how we're doing this, basically the judges nominate artists they like, we have a point system for these noms, count up the points, and take the top ten (if they all qualify and accept).
As for posting who nominated who and who got whatever points... I think not. I don't want to sway voters one way or the other. If the nominating judges want to come out later and say who they nominated, I leave it to their discretion, but I think like with most contests and awards it's best to keep that stuff behind-the-scenes. The less said, the better.
Now, back to work behind the curtain...

hi thanks for the reply i think it would be good to give a critique of why the participant didn't get into the top ten as a lot of people have turned out some excellent work and it would be very rewarding to hear good and bad points to work on. best, neil

I can see J's point though. 175 individual critiques? Not likely to happen.
But I do have a thought. If the judges could put together a short list of a few generalities about the entries overall as to what they saw that for them eliminated most people from contention. Some of those we already know... No sequential art in their portfolio. Not linking DIRECTLY to the art for CBI.
But having a general "Mass" review might be helpful for some people. And it would serve to aide as a kind of guideline for future competitions on what to avoid if you want a better shot at getting into the competition.

That's an interesting idea! Let me bring it up with the judges for later. Right now, we really need to concentrate on the top ten ;)
