View Full Version : The Scarlet Centurion?
What is the Scarlet Centurion's first appearance? I think he only had one official appearance (Kang in disguise) which then lead to another alternate reality which the Scarlet Centurion became a villain for the Squadron Supreme Earth...

Avengers Annual #2
A pretty good write-up here (http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/earthscarletcenturionavan2.htm).

The Scarlett Centurian first shows up in the vastly superior Avengers Annual #2 (not to be mistaken for the dreadful Annual #1) which features the original Avengers vs. the then current line-up.
The issue is written very cleverly to be in between pannels of Avengers #56 and #57... which was a time travel story where Cap witnesses the "death of Bucky" but due to the Wasp being drugged or influenced by the Scarlet C, causes the viewing Avengers as ghosts to materialize in the past, and so, influences history... except, they really DON'T get to change anything, and Bucky is blown to patriotic bits again in the end.... and Wasp appologizes for falling asleep at t he switch...and Cap says don't worry about it, Jan... after all what could it have hurt?" They all walk off into the sunset to board the quinjet home.
Segue to Avengers Annual #2 where they arrive back at Avengers Mansion to discover that they are NOT back in the present, but still in the past... circa 1962 and somewhere after #1 but not after #2... and the Hulk is STILL a member.
The Scarlet C eventually reveals himself to have been behind the plot...and it is shown that he is an interim form of Kang, post Rama Tutt...but pre-Kang...
however, later incarnations would cast the Scarlett C as the SON of Kang...and we all knows where that leads.
This was the one and only appearance of the Scarlett C for as long as I knew until he showed up in the Kang Destiny arc in Avengers Volume 2....

Thanks both of you. I blanked when I tried to remember the Scarlet Centurion's first appearance. I knew it had to be an Avengers Annual, but I forgot which one.
